    Default Quest Guide: Worker Sledgemallet

    Obtaining an ‘unlimited-gate’ item&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp

    By: Jaeeq

So you want an item that will let you gate out of (almost) anywhere? And you want it to take you close to a PoK portal? And you want unlimited charges so you’re not always recreating or buying new potions? Well you’re in luck because this guide is going to show you how to do exactly that.

The item I suggest you get is:

    Worker Sledgemallet

    LORE ITEM MAGIC ITEM

    Damage: 6

    Delay: 50

    Weight: 3.2

    Weapon Skill: Two Hand Blunt

    Classes: All Classes

    Races: All Races

    Inventory Slot: Primary Melee

Can be stored in Extra Large and larger containers

    Effect: Overthere (combat)

1: Teleport to 2602, 3395, -138 in The Overthere facing North

    Level for Effect: 50

The best thing about it is that it is all/all meaning you can use it even if you are a class with no skill in 2h Blunt (like Rogue). This weapon procs randomly when you are attacking something with it. It will proc against Green con NPCs or even against your buddy in a /duel which is very handy! The only time that it cannot help you is when there is nothing available to attack, such as, being stuck in one of the location boxes or an otherwise closed off area with no NPCs or PCs.

It lands you in the Overthere outpost (evil) in one of the ships on the beach and there is a PoK portal just outside the outpost. With invis you can safely get to the portal, just keep your distance from the green (one blue con) undead in the area. You could even risk it with a SoW, etc. just know where you’re going before you attempt the run. I always do it with a Monk (FD) and a Rogue (Hide/Sneak) with zero problems being KOS.

NOTE: To be safe, you really need to get familiar with the layout of the outpost first. Use an invis or a non-KOS character to scout. Look at where the Undead Foreman is, where Captain Rotgrimes is, where the ships on the beach are, and where the POK portal is (on outside of the fort’s walls in a safe spot). If using invis, the only mobs that will see you are the undead which are easy to avoid.

Now, how do I get this wonderful item you ask.

The Undead Foreman simply asks for a Jade (couple pp; buy from any gem vendor) and in return, he will reward you with the Worker Sledgemallet. The only difficult part of the quest is the faction required with Undead Foreman which is the same for the whole Overthere outpost, named Venril Sathir faction.

Bards, Enchanters, and Necromancers have no need for faction work and are VERY lucky. Each of these classes (at level 50ish-plus and with the appropriate spell) can charm Undead Foreman and hand him a Jade (couple pp; buy from gem vendor). He is approximately level 45 and is somewhat resistant to MR so you may need help with MR debuffs.

You can NOT, however, go with one of the above classes and hand in your own Jade to their pet (Foreman). This is because the faction required for the quest is Amiable. A PC's pet is indifferent to other PCs but a pet is always Amiable to its own master.

So you're not a Bard or Enc or Nec, what then?

Well, depending on your deity and race many characters START out as dubious or higher with the Overthere outpost already. Generally, evil or neutral gods/races have better starting faction with the outpost. The specific faction is Venril Sathir. You lose this faction in Karnors/Dreadlands and Howling Stones very rapidly though and these are pretty popular places.

So, if you have NON-KOS faction with the outpost (Venril Sathir) you can kill Sarnak Berzerkers in various zones such as Overthere or Frontier Mountains. The Berzerkers drop a Sarnak War Braid which does NOT stack. It looks like a green tail in the icon. You can then turn these in 4 at a time to Captain Rotgrime (who is also in the Overthere outpost) for faction. This will be tedious and could take literally thousands of Braids to raise your faction to the required Amiable.

A note about this quest for faction: You do NOT get faction for when a member of your group turns in the braids. YOU must do the hand in to get the faction. The misconception is because long ago this was broken and did share faction with the group but has long since been fixed. Test it if you like, I did.

OK, so you've shot your faction to heck and you're KOS, what now?

Well, if you're a class with Sneak such as Monk or Rogue, then you still have an advantage. With Sneak on and standing behind Captain Rotgrimes you can turn in your Sarnak Braids to him and receive the faction without him turning around and attacking you.

The twist here is that Rotgrimes walks back and forth in front of his 'troops', other skeletons, and faces them. Sneak is only indifferent from behind a NPC, Hide has no relevance to this as it cannot be used for turn-ins (because Hide turns off when you initiate a turn-in to an NPC). This means that if you're standing behind the other skeletons, Rotgrime will see and attack you. If you're standing behind Rotgrime, the skeletons will see and attack you.

There are 2 ways to get around this problem. First would be to have a Monk pull Rotgrime away from the pack a safe distance and then do the turn-ins behind him. The second way is much bolder and fun! Those with Sneak know that it works not only BEHIND a NPC but from the SIDE of a NPC as well.

To a certain extent you can walk up to the side an NPC and as long as you are not within his frontal view you will remain indifferent (assuming a successful Sneak, indifferent from the back). So, you can actually stand at the side of both Rotgrime and the skeleton that he faces and be indifferent to BOTH! This allows you to do the turn-in solo.

NOTE: Be sure to observe his movements from a safe vantage and pick the exact spot you are going to stand in which will be considered the SIDE of both NPCs (Rotgrime and the skeleton he is facing) before you try this for the first time.

I have personally done this with a KOS Rogue and a Monk successfully, both solo and at separate times.

OK, so you don't have Sneak or Charm and you are KOS to the outpost or you just don’t want to do the faction work...what then??

Fear not, there is at least one more alternative that will net you a Worker Sledgemallet with unlimited gate ability. I went this route after I turned in 80 Braids using the Sneak method and was still Scowling (KOS) to the outpost. That took a good deal of time because you have to hunt down Berzerkers wandering around the zone and hold on to non-stackable items.

There is a not-so-well-known item that originates in the Plane of Fear that will help you. This item is the Puppet Strings. It is Magic and Lore but NOT No Drop. It used to be from Cazic Thule himself but now is found on the 'Mini-bosses' in the zone like Dread, Terror, etc. This wonderful little item has 10 charges of the spell Allure. This is the level 49 Enchanter charm spell. The item can be used from inventory and is All/All.

With this, anyone can charm the Undead Foreman (likely a minimum level 50 requirement to use Puppet Strings) and while he is your pet and Amiable to you, you can turn in your Jade for your new teleport toy.

Some tips for the Charm-less classes out there. Get your CHARISMA up before using this item! Also, get his MAGIC RESISTANCE debuffed before using this item!

That means bring along an Enchanter (Tashani) or Shaman/Magician (Malosi) or Bard (MR debuff songs) to help you. OR if you want to do it all solo, use a Journeyman's Walking Stick yourself to proc Tashani on him but understand that this is a lower level MR debuff than a 50's PC can put on him.

Take my advice, I burned through 6 charges of with my Monk getting resisted with the Puppet Strings. I then invested 100pp or so and boosted my CHA by 70 points or so. Then I proc'ed Tash on him with the J'man's Walking Stick. After that, it stuck the first time!

Be prepared however and have your Jade ready to turn in the instant he quits beating on you because Charm could wear off very quickly.

So, look for Puppet Strings in the Bazaar if you want to do this the fast way. 10K is very worth it to me because my Monk and my wife's Rogue both have free and unlimited teleports to POK in about one minute from anywhere now! This took less than an hour after I bought the Puppet Strings.

So, moral of the LONG story is...if you are a 50+ Enc, Nec or Bard, there is NO reason you shouldn't have one of these. If you are NON-KOS to the outpost or you are a class with Sneak, you can do the faction work, but know that this will take a week or two at least.

If you are KOS and have no Sneak, save up for Puppet Strings and some CHA gear and bring along your friendly neighborhood Magic Resist debuffer to help you.

P.S. The Foreman is around 45 so you may need healing help or other support to accomplish this because he will beat on you for hits around 100.

I just did this recently using puppet strings. Worked first time, np. Somehow or other though, every time I use it I get aggro from every dragoon in the place on my run around the outside to the book. Not sure how this happens, crazy passing of aggro I guess, I usually get General whoever that I have always seen in the bank. Just an FYI for anybody KOS that's planning on doing this who is too lazy to either a) invis themselves upon arrival, or b) gets immediate aggro from a skellie in the boat as has happened to me a couple times.

Thanks for the guide. Its very helpful. I follow pretty much all the steps. I am a warrior. I used the Puppet string and had a chanter friend with me to tash him.

Just wanna share something, I asked the chanter friend to keep the NPC mezzed so that I can charm without being hit. Apparently that was a BAD idea. I did suscessfullu charm the NPC but the mez effet was on the NPC as well so the NPC was aggroed and I couldn't open up a trade window with an AGGROed NPC. In 2nd attempt, we used Root instead. It worked this time. But the original poster is right, the NPC is highly MR. With tash on it, I burned 5 charges to charm it.

About the run about ported into the ship, it's best to run out of the Ship, check if the undead worker aggro on you , if they do, root or kill them (they are lt blue to lvl61). Then go ahead and invis. Do not invis inside the boat as undead are close and will still aggro you.

Dragonns are running slightly faster than Run 3. So I presume, Sow should outrun them.

    Default info

I got the hammer solo at 53 using the puppet strings a journeymans walking stick and two opal encrusted steins...

A few things to know about the OT outpost.

#1 If a guard or golem aggros expect at least 2-3 more.

#2 The dragoons and the general run at sow speed, and hit hard...the general ht for a lot

#3 There are less guard mobs in the fort at night

#4 Dont bother trying to pull the foreman to do this just do it at his spawn point

His spawn point if you dont know is all to run left if you are facing the POK book all the way around the outpost to the last opening, invis or sneak past the golem and hug the wall running left. The foreman is static with his back to you and normally carries a whip.

Tash him then back up to the wall FD and sneak...then walk equip cha items and aggro him

Set up your inventory in such a way so that you can very quickly drop the jade on him because he breaks charm very fast.

Use the strings...the SECOND that he stops attacking give him the jade, the hammer will appear in your inventory...now just feign him off.

When you use the hammer you will drop INSIDE one of the boats. To get out just run up to the front of the boat that is more narrow and you will appear on the deck, then simply jump off. If you do this quickly you wont get aggro from skele on boat. If you do they are very easy, and I find it easier to just kill the one skeleton that aggros than to feign him off...just make sure you pull him away form the boats before you do or you may get adds.

Once you get away with no aggro sneak behind the undead foreman to the wall. Wait for the golem to path to the other side of the opening then sneak along the wall to the right out of aggro range. Then you are free to run to the book with no aggro and no invis.

    Enjoy

    - you and a chanter stand together in the backyard(if you take the view of the foreman 50 meters to his left)

    - chanter pulls with tash

    - you charm on inc and dont move just turn -> the pet comes to your face

    - turn in jade, done

there was something strange tho. after charm and turn in there were about 10 inkies incomming from nowhere. so better do it all quick.

I did this quest recently with max negative VS faction. I purchased puppet strings from Bazaar with 8 charges. I tried to do it solo with a Journeyman's Walkingstick, but failed miserably. I recruited a 60 Enchanter to help me with it. I managed to get it to work on the last charge of the puppet strings.

No - you need to be amiable. Depending on what faction you are, changing to dark elf would not have enough effect. If you are max KoS - changing your appearance won't help at all.

Where that helps is if you max out faction at indifferent which is true for some races in some towns i.e. an Iksar almost any good city - when an iskar maxes at indifferent they can change to a good illusion and gain another step to amiable etc.

2 resists later, I was down to 1 charge left. I used it, it worked, I got my hammer. I still have my 0 charge Puppet Strings, I keep thinking someday I'll recharge it if the price isn't too ridiculous..

I'm a lvl 42 Iksar Monk. I collected 96 braids, stored them in the bank. Then bought an Essence of Troll potion. Took book to OT, clicked potion, looked like a Troll and became apprehensive to outpost. Turned in 96 braids, went to amiable at 88, but might as well turn others in too. Turned in Jade, got my Worker Sledgemallet. Woot. Now I know I can't use it till 50 but wanted to hunt Berzerkers and do turn ins when the exp would be worth something. Ok, I'm away from the Outpost and Illusion wears off, find out I'm still KOS. Has any Iksar Monk turned in enough braids so they weren't KOS anymore that could tell me an approximate number? Thanks in advance.

    Trakenen

Turned in another 140 braids as a troll and have moved from scowls to glares in normal form, hopefully just another 80 to go then.

I turned in the 88 like you did on my Agnostic Vah Shir Beastlord and got the hammer. It then took approximately 220 more braids to reach dubious when not in illusion form.

From a religion standpiont, Iksar have it made workshiping an "evil" diety; however, I don't know if the outpost folks will ever tolerate Iksar or not.

I was max KOS due to all my time in KC and I turned in maybe 20 braids so far with no progress of course and I have to sneak to turn in and is a pain really. If I use an illusion of an evil race or skelly will I atleast get to Apprehensive and then the 88 briads will work to amiable?

I know I am just dreaming but which is easier to farm braids or work on my gate talisman. I have collected most of the hard parts just from raid leftovers and we are getting the drops in Elementals everyday? I use Thurg gate potion at the time which is very easy actually but unlimited gates would be nice????

I completed the faction work for this hammer last weekend, all on Saturday.

In the morning I took my Iksar Monk out to OT with a troll illusion potion and found I could do the quest text (pretty sure the illusion raised me to Dubious). So, I figured I would collect some braids and see what happened. I filled myself with containers (good lord I have never been so heavy) and went braid hunting. I had exactly 64 open spots to hold braids.

I took two full loads of braids and turned them in. After each turn-in I conned the quest NPC. After turning in 124, or 31 sets of four braids, I moved to Amiable under the illusion. I had four braids left over and turned those in also, but I was already Amiable.

My Monk is level 52. Iksar so he worships CT. Never hunted or killed goons in OT that I can recall. Never been in HS. Camped in KC at Warlord/Jail/Hands for a couple hours one time.

Not sure if that information really helps anyone, but figured I would post it in case anyone finds it useful.

I killed a bit in KC, but not much, killed a couple goons, the foreman once, and Captain Rottgrime once for mage epic.

After turning in 388 war-braids, i'm now threatening with troll illusion, kos without, though I didn't check my faction beforehand with troll illusion.

I'm guesstimating (hoping) that it will only take me 800 braids total to reach indiff or better, I'll update if I remember when I reach that.

    Bottom amiable is 100.

Each set of 4 braids gives +8 if I remember right, so +2 per braid.

That would work out to a maximum of 425 braids, less if you're not at the bottom of threatening.

So, your estimate should be accurate.

I started soloing berserkers around lvl 38, just single pulling them from the sarnak ruins, and hitting wanderers when the ruins were full of harder ( at the time ) repops. It took me from lvl 38 to lvl 42 in between some Sol A gnomes and LGuk duoing Ass/Up.

Like other iksar, after 88 braids I turned amiable under illusion: DE and got my hammer. I decided to stick it out and after another 100-150 braids (edited cause I lost count at the time) or so I became non-KoS as my regular scaley-self. I'm really happy I did this and suggest anyone who hasn't totally burned their faction to do the same.

If you can get non-kos to OT do it for the hammer, it is totally worth the effort. It may not be worth it if you're as kos as I was, but in the long run, it's less hassle than buying gate potions or doing velium vapors.

As a troll Shadowknight worshiping cazic thule I found myself dubious to OT when I started working on my hammer. I also found that Fay and Sev give positive VS faciton hits. So with 3 Fay kills, 1 Sev kill and about 150 braids I was up to amiable.

I must be both bored and obsessive/compulsive at once I guess because:

Human Monk; Quellios worshiper; Bottomed-out VS faction; No +VS dragon kills; I turn in 40 braids at a time using the sneak technique.

    Threatening: between 780 - 820 braids

    Dubious: between 900 - 940 braids

    apprehensive: 1124 braids

    Indifferent: 1172 braids

    Amiable: 1224 braids

At Dubious I did try to use the Troll illusion and it had no effect on my faction. I don't know if this is because it didn't give me enough faction to bounce me up to Apprehensive, or if it didn't work because I worship a God or what the reason is, but Troll Illusion seems to work for some and not for others and I don't know why.

It is possible that over the months I have been working on this that I lost count of a few braids here or there, but I am pretty sure this is accurate and if it isn't exact, I am confident it is at minimum 95% accurate.

I have no idea why it takes fewer braids to get through Threatening than to get through Dubious but it does.

    Good luck!

i was under the impression they nerfed illusions and they no longer give faction adjustments. Chanter mentioned something about it last night, so take it with a grain of salt.

    Default Braid turn ins

As an agnostic monk, who fought a bit in KC...

I started out at threatening turned one set of braids in and got dubious

Dubious to apprehensivly took me 180 braids or 45 turn ins

Apprehensive to indifferent took me 56 braids or 14 turn ins

Indifferent to Amiable took me 45 braids or 9 turn ins

    Hope this helps

    Anyone tried Feral Pack?

The new LDoN druid spell Feral pack gives about 2-3 faction levels to live side frogs in Guk.... Im curious if it does the same at the outpost in OT.

Anyone try it? It may not get you all the way, but 2-3 faction levels is alot of time saved.

    Default essence of troll

just to verify - troll illusion is a huge faction mod in the outpost. got me from hella-kos to dubious. and i had taken a ton of venril sathir hits. rather than pay 80k for puppet strings, i stayed in OT for a day or so - took me 176 warbraids lol.. but definitely worth it. wouldn't ever leave my hammer in the bank <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/devil.gif ALT=":evil">

For a Quellious worshipping Monk. Can you pull Captain Rottgrime out, have an enchanter charm him, then turn in braids for faction? Or would he not give faction while charmed?
