Default And SOE listened to this?

I usually don't start threads, but I needed to get this out there. I wanted to point out what an idiot Sony was listening to:

    This is from today :

    "It's Sad Really...

    2002-11-20 02:25:40 - Furor Planedefiler

Expansion after expansion after expansion after expansion we just keep kicking ass.

See folks, it doesn't matter if every developer that is currently working at SoE hates us. It doesn't matter that a few guilds suck so much developer @#%$ that they actually have a mainline of all the backdoor info they need to get to the Plane of Time and back.

None of this matters to the Fires of Heaven. We don't need l33t beta infoz. We have been giving you guys the straight @#%$ on our boards for years. We don't sugar coat our topics in hopes of not offending some candy ass egomaniac that thinks his @#%$ don't stink. We'll tell you straight up - XXX SUCKS, YOU SUCK, FIX IT. 99.9% of the time, we're right.

Now despite the horrible @#%$ job most of the beta testers did testing, the team of Devs actually pulled off a pretty @#%$ awesome expansion. Note I say - IN SPITE OF THE @#%$ TESTING."

    www.fohguild.org/flash/index.php

They listened to this fool? People come to this board and comment on how stupid and immature we sound. So this multi million dollar company listened to a guy who communicates like a maladjusted high school kid.

Maybe they should bring him in to a board meeting, so the bigshots can see who SOE was listening to when they decided that it was a good idea to anger a good percentage of their customer base.

And they also listen to him beacuse his guild is the farthest ahead in PoP right now. They're the only guild in plane of fire right now and often times they end up beta testing the mobs that the beta testers fix.

I clicked a link on a board out of curiosity to see what the big deal was, and made an observation that in retrospect didn't deserve it's own thread. I don't doubt that he knows a lot about the game, I guess I was expecting something that I didn't get. Grats to them for their in game accomplishments, though.

Suffice it to say I won't be going back to that board.

The main problem is that SoE lack a full understanding of their own game. Furor doesn't know very much and much of what he does is downright wrong and can be demonstrated with even a cursory empirical evaluation.

But he makes a good job of the SHOW. He can be persuasive about how right he is (even when he is wrong). Combine that with being the most loudmouthed uberguild (not always the first but always the first to brag) and you get a viewpoint that SoE do seem to like to listen to.

Problem with SOE listening to single player disproportionately is that players are going to be filter everything through their own personal bias. Its one thing to take note of bugs in the game. Its another to shift core game dynamics based on what one or a handful of players say.

In Furor's case, he will probably favor warriors because he main is a warrior. I doubt he would have been complaining about mitigation had he played a monk.

Lastly, its kind of sad that presumably we all pay the same monthly fee but that some of us have much greater say than others.

Moreover, its even sadder that those have the greatest say are not representative of the player community as a whole. (i.e. uber power gamers players out of touch with present state of game for casual and non power gamers)

    Thanks for nothing, Sony. (tm)

I think jumping on the Furor bashing bandwagon is just wrong.

Despite me being a monk..I have to admit he had a point.

The problem is you want to bash Furor for being right, and seem not to realise that it was SOE that fuxored the solution.

Furor WAS right, the monks that he was talking about that now have 7k+hp are STILL overpowered.

7k HP and 1500ac is equal (if not better) then most of the warriors in a guild taking on AoW.

Thats ridiculous, it doesn't matter that Furor is looking now to hit 9k, thats irrelevent, Monks should never have reached that level.

What else could SoE do? They couldn't tone down what they are giving these monks, because then what would be the point of their progression? Where would their next step be?

Instead they tried to knock down monk mitigation, and in doing so destroyed the game for the majority of us, they know this, but they are stumped.

They have made a game where AC even at reasonably high level, is meaningless, we all know this don't we, we all say the same damn thing...HP > AC.

Now the game revolves around HP, these monks have 125hp items, 305sta, and Durability both Luclin and Planer Physical enhancement and more, they have HP out the wazoo.

The problem is doing ANYTHING but removing their high HP is useless.

Lower their mitigation, it makes no difference, they have such high HP they can still tank in Pop, Planes of Valor and Hohonora, ask people that ARE high end, I am not talking about the likes of me with 3.5k, I am talking about the likes of people who are looking at 4500hp unbuffed.

Now you look at a monk that is level 60 and not a raid monk (something I can do quite easily since it was not that long ago I was there) and you see a character with 2,500hp. And thats good, I see 60 monks with 2,100hp.

That means these monks have double the HP of non raiding 60 monks.

Now you change ANYTHING that effects ALL monks and the only people who are going to suffer are the non uber monks.

I think Sony forgot this in their desire to fix a percieved problem.

I don't know the solution, well I do but its not one they will implement, they need to go thru High End equipment start closing off items that monks can wear (ie drop the all/all tags) and on the items monks can wear they need to lower the HP/Sta.

Of course they won't do that, and I doubt many monks would want to see that, but its the only solution to a problem that only involves very high end monks.

Furor wasn't talking about me, and he wasn't talking about the majority of monks, the people he was talking about are the people that need to be fixed, this has nothing to do with 80% of the monk community, other then thats the people that Sony hurt with the nerf, whilst the 20% that needed fixing are still broken.

The saddest thing about this is that whilst they have erred they will not allow that error to go, to fix what they have broken, instead you start hearing all the noises that just make you feel they are not going to fix it.

You hear how rogues and rangers should tank better then monks, because we are leather and they are chain classes, which flies in the face of all that these classes were, now with the monk nerf came a ranger defense upgrade....why? Rangers could never tank, its why they have a spell book, its why they have archery, why did they need a tanking upgrade? Rogues have never been able to tank, its part and parcel...payment if you like, for being able to creep around behind a mob and hit for amazing amounts of damage, this was a price they paid.

Now all of a sudden, to 'put the monk change' into perspective, we are told its a leather thing...but then if its a leather thing then the chain must be better at tanking...ohh yes they must.

Thats the sort of reaction that I see in Sony, its not proactive, its not a 'we have an idea' its a 'oops we said something, now lets cover our asses'.

Its sad to see, and I can honestly say that quitting the game has been the best choice I have made in a long time.

I disagree. They could have left it as is. How many of these monks your talking about have almost 7khps and 1500AC??

Would it be 50 across all servers...I doubt it would be 100 across all servers. Divide that by how many monks are in the game and was they did was huge injustice to the 99.9% of monks that dont have 7khps and 1500AC.

I don't think even in that very large post that I ever said I agreed to the nerf.

They had to do something though.

The same reason they had to do something about Donal's Breat Plate of Mourning when it did a complete heal that stacked with other Donal's BPs.

Its unbalancing and it makes a mockery of the game and other players.

I don't agree with what they done, but I do agree that a tiny percentage of monks were and still are overpowered.

Besides I do disagree with your number, 50 across all servers?

Hmm I can think of atleast 2 that I know of on Stormhammer in one guild hitting this amount, considering that guild has 4 monks (the other two I know nothing about) and its not the top guild on server, and the top guild on server has another 6 monks, I would hazard a guess that there are 10 monks on Stormhammer reaching that amount.

I would suspect that all of FoH monks are hitting that amount, as are the two guilds competing with them on their server.

I think if you consider there are say 30 servers that 'can' achieve these goals, I would hazard a guess at perhaps 300 players with this level of gear.

    Rubbish.

Having 1800AC IS meaningful in the current game. 1800AC is better than 1500AC due to the scaling in encounters, linear ATK design and the new experience model forcing players away from the "hordes of low blue" tactic for experience gain.

Stormhammer (and Ant Bayle) are the worst possible examples on which to draw an average. Both servers have huge imbalances in their proportion of high level and raiding level players compared to the norm.

Estimate of 50 to 100 monks across all servers exceeding 7k HP AND 1500AC is actually quite HIGH. It is almost certainly in the low end of this range or possibly BELOW it.

Perhaps they do have a high number of high level players.

SH still only has 2 guilds that have ever entered VT.

These are the people we are talking about.

Is this not indicitive of normal servers?

Prove to me 1800ac is better then 1500ac.

Don't give me your theories I spent long enough working thru the evidence for other theories, I read enough parses to make myself blue in the face.

Come then, post your parses, post your proof, post some evidence.

Change my mind, show me that AC is not meaningless.

Until you can do that, I think I will stick with the evidence I have already seen countless times, on countless boards pointing to the fact that it is meaningless.

Most problems that face the upper cruxx of the game will filter down to the general population as time and mudflation goes on.

SoE with PoP/PoP era changes is trying more to design from the top down, then from the bottom up, for this reason. (At least that what it appears to be)

Look at his picture with Zaar (triton guild leader) and Tigole (former legacy of steel leader) and u'll see that they aren't any of the above, all have jobs, and don't play as much as you think.

And for the AC.. parses have shown that after a certain point on your Ac the results come back diminishing, hence the soft cap. So yes you can technically have 2000 ac but at 1400 or whatever it stops making a big difference, hence why HP >>>> AC - because HP numbers matter now.

With PoP and mobs having huge DI's AC might be more important again, but honestly if you have 125+ hp items your AC is already very high.

As to the idea that mudflation and all the rest of it.

Sorry your playing a different game to the one I am playing. Or a different class.

All NToV armour for monks is No Drop, All armour above that is no drop except AoW leggings which still sell in the region of 300k.

Like I said in a post about playing a monk, we are THE hardest class to kit out, you look at magelo's in this community and you will notice something.

There are a huge number of monks at level 60 that have 1150ac and 2500hp around them number, because this is the pre-raid level for monks, its nearly impossible to get above this number, without doing some serious raiding.

Look at all the 60 monks that are at this level and you will notice something very consistent about them, none of them have anything raid worthy, no NtoV, no high level mob drops, nothing in that vein.

Then there is a HGUE jump between them and those monks that are at 4k+, I have over 1k hp more then a non-raid monk and I have barely started raiding, once you start raiding its easy for a monk to make a huge jump in HP, because the crap we get before that is pitiful.

The idea of Mudflation is really quite baseless, yes some items filter down and the non-raid monks over a number of items gain perhaps another 100hp, so their base goes to 2600, whilst at the same time a raid monk has gotten 3 items that have increased his HP (at highest level) by 375hp+. because not only does his items have 125hp on them, they have 10sta too, and 10 to all resists and an effect that adds 200hp which is right clickable.

Thus the gap grows ever larger, rather then decreasing.

    Nodrop items mudflate too...

NToV used to be the height of raiding, now many many guilds have access to it, and it will only increase (as price for AOW legs will also go down)

Not to mention i'm sure the tradable HoH legs will probably become more avaible as they get discovered, and more access to the zone becomes avaible (theres a key quest, that anyone can complete, uber guild or no)

    Default Texas vs. OK.

LoK You make some pretty bold assumptions.

First, this, (Paraphrased) "A monk reaching 7K should never have been allowed in the first place."

Why? There's no support for this argument. SOE Made the gear attainable for a VT Guild. Sure, it puts them equivalent to the AC of a warrior tanking Kael, but no guild that is still tanking Kael can reach that AC. This argument ignores the differences in ACs as well.

Second. The amount of monks reaching that AC/HP. I think it would likely be closer to the 50-75 proposed. SH likely has the highest percentage, as they can take down the AoW whenever they beg a GM, and the top monks from other servers went there. But as for this statement

"I would suspect that all of FoH monks are hitting that amount, as are the two guilds competing with them on their server."

I doubt even all of FoH's monks are at that height, they may be. But what "two guilds competing with them on their server" would you be talking about? CT? Keepers? No way are they that equiped...maybe one or two monks.

But lets take your estimate. Even 300, though I think its quite over the amount there are. How are 300 monks overpowering? 300 monks across how many currently subscribed? Tens to hundreds of thousands...that calls for a nerf where those 300 are not touched much, but the other thousands are.

    LoK,

I think you are a bit off on your comments about mudflation. When people twink their new PCs with Fungis, Windblades, FBSSes etc... the relative power of the players increase. Small groups are now capable of doing things that would have required enitre guilds to accomplish. It is only as matter of time before someone does NTOV or WTOV with a single group or 2. Case in point: Last night some friends and I went to COM to hunt some BRs. There were 8 of us. Highest level was 56, with 3 characters below 50. We killed a half dozen BRs with little problem. No one died the entire night and a good time and XP was had by all. At one time, this would have been a full guild raid. The 3 below 50 characters were twinks with realy good equipment, otherwise they could have been a detriment to a small group. The PC powerbase as a whole. has been increasing steadily since the release of the game and will only continue till they turn the lights off. I think that this has been mostly attributable to the equipment that is out there. For the most part, the mobs are the same as the day the game and expansions are relased, with the exception of the caster retuning and an occasional NPC change here and there. Just the way things are. I don't like the monk nerf and I am doing the best that I can to deal with it.

We got ourselves nerfed, not Furor.

How may posts were here that said, "I can tank better than a warrior", or "I tanked this", or "I am badder than all else, and guess what"?

That kind of stuff got us nerfed. Why would they listen to bratty ass punk? Answer: They dont, they read it here, and decided that we were too powerful.

I think we need to go back to what we used to be, but I doubt Furor had much to do about anything.

Go and have a look for youself, you will see I am correct, collect up the level 60 magelo's (even the 61-63 brigade too) you will see the HP and AC for yourself.

Any monks with over 2500ish points (count within 200hp or so for 60+) will have raid equipment.

Whether NToV or Sleepers are open to smaller guilds or not, they still require hours of raiding. There is no change there, whether you done those hours of raiding with the best guild on your server or the worst, is immaterial, you done the hours of raiding required.

To the count of monks, I would still figure there are 300+ monks hitting 7k HP fully buffed, I was near to the point of reaching 6k and I am FAR from the uber guild.

It doesn't really include me hitting any items outside of Velious to be quite frank. Look at my Magelo I think the only 100hp items I have are shoulders from Velious and Epic from Kunark.

Look at my profile, there are atleast 5 slots I can think of that I can fill with 100hp items and never leave Velious.

And your talking like 7khp fully raid buffed is hard to achieve, with my magelo right now I was hitting 5,400hp, with 2 100hp items. And I am not 65 and I don't have the AA with PoP that increase base stats to 305.

Shando Mudflation exists, but it exists for a lot of classes more then us.

Look at my magelo, now going thru my items, the MAJORITY of it is from Velious, I have 3 items from Luclin.

3 Items, and nothing is available from Luclin better then what I have that doesn't require a pretty damn good guild to get.

Mudflation is there, anyone denying that would be insane, but the degree of mudflation for monks is not the same as it might be for other classes.

As to there not being a problem with monks with 7khp, of course there is a problem if there wasn't why the nerf? Cause HP > All and with that kind of HP monks were as good as warriors as tanking, because thats all that warriros were concerned about..HP, once you give another class that many HP whats the difference between them? Nothing.

Thats why Furor said what he said, thats why we got nerfed, cause of the shortsightedness of developers who gave the monks too much, and we all paid the price.

edit - i suppose if i am going to refer to magelo that much I should atleast post it <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)">

To make a short point on mudflation, without making that last post even longer then it already is.

One of the things that used to bug me about being a monk is this:

I would be on a raid with 5 monks awhile back, and we would all look the bloody same.

We all had Oiled Greaves, we all had Grey Flesh Sleeves, we all had barbed boots, we all had a Fungi, we all had Crowns that were not visible and some had CoM's.

It was pitiful to be on a raid and if you turned names off you couldn't tell one monk from another at a distance.

Mudflation exists, but the level of mudflation for monks is pretty poor.

ok 50-100 monks on all servers that have 7k+ buffed? i figure that number is about right,,, the 100 that is.

i know of atleast 4 monks on the nameless that have broken 7000hp

i know of atleast 15 monks on the nameless that have broken 6000hp and are climbing rapidly.

it is the VELIOUS spawn that creates the biggest jump in power ac/hp wise.

i am at almost 3600hp unbuffed. i know of SEVERAL slots where i would see atleast a 50 hp gain -PER SLOT - where ntov has an upgrade for me.(i do have some ntov and i have aow legs)

chest belt shoulder arm head face ear bracer range ring

offhand weapon(off vulak but hey i can dream)

all could use upgrading to something better.

    i break 1400ac fully buffed

i am at 5974hp fully buffed (i get PE and i'll bust 6k)

my guild is just starting NToV gear, once we spend some time in there, then we will be moving on. we are dabbling in tier 2 zones and working on getting into tier 3.

Haha, another person who thinks that being overweight/ugly/depressed (or a combination of all three) makes someone a dipshit.

    How utterly insane.

And yes, I am flaming/trolling whatever you want to call it (possibly a combination of the two?) because that pisses me off.

I'm guessing that you're underweight/attractive/overly happy. Or a combination of all three.

<Furor WAS right, the monks that he was talking about that now have 7k+hp are STILL overpowered.

7k HP and 1500ac is equal (if not better) then most of the warriors in a guild taking on AoW.

Thats ridiculous, it doesn't matter that Furor is looking now to hit 9k, thats irrelevent, Monks should never have reached that level.>

Are you kidding me ?? monks with 7k hitpoints are still overpowered compared to what? surely not the quadding

druids/wizzies out there, or the soloing rangers pulling down 12% aaxp per kill in plane of storms.

Maybe them 7khp monks are still overpowered compared to the rogues who now outdamage AND outtank them??

oh yeah 7k hps is in the range of rogues too.

A monk who has progressed through VT and onto POP should

be > in hps and ac then a warrior of the "just now" AOW

capable guild,if not what would be the point of gear progression? AOW and VT are worlds apart.

it seems to be the collective understanding that only "UBER"

monks were not hit at all by the miti nerf ,, well the collective unerstanding is WRONG..

most of the monks that can attain 7k hps and above are killin

mobs that hit for insane amounts of damage and have no better ability to tank then lower lvl lower hp monks in thier respective hunting areas. WE WERE ALL NERFED THE SAME.

my guild often hunts in HOH for exp and i often go there looking for a group, but i NEVER go there to tank for one,

its just not an option even with a shaman as a slower.my clerics would laugh at me if i even suggested such a crazy idea.

Before you say that its rediculous that some monks have 7k hps and it should never have gotten that way, maybe you should pull some POP mobs that hit for 2096, and proc 5k and can wipe a monk in one combat round. maybe then you will change your mind about what is and isn't rediculous.

You sound like the other 30394857048927 people who stop off on the FOH boards, and parrot whatever Furor says like its the gospel.

Someone has issues to understand how mudflation work and that it affects all classes, not just monks.

This has been rehashed a bazillion times by now.
