    Default PlanetSide, the static game...?

    Is it just me or over the last month has there been legitimate player gripe after legitimate player gripe that haven't been touched by the PS dev team, and a soon-to-be gold date set in stone to boot?



    I didn't want to post this on the PS forums as there's already enough bitching going on there to make a drama queen cry. However, I wanted to use you all here at MB as a sounding board to see if I've just developed a case of beta rash.



    In my eyes the remaining, often-pointed out and most obvious flaws in PS that made me decide to not buy it when it streets are:



    1. Serious imbalances between all 3 Empires. If 5,000 beta testers all pre-order then on day 1 there will be at least 5,000 TRs running around.



    2. Nerfing more often rather than across-the-board upscale balancing as the answer to issues. I swear some of these devs came from Absor's EQ design/dev team.



    3. Infiltrators are broken and near useless, whether by bug or by design or both.



    4. There is absolutely no point to the game. It's just a big, online, realtime and pointless brawl.



    5. The caps on everything from sensitivities to levels are too soft/low.



    6. The $13/mo price does not justify the lack of content, goals, etc. but even after some semi-open discussion on this SOE refuses to budge.



    7. All of the previous statements add up to me being burnt out on PS even before it streets.





    Now, I know this is a beta, but for those that would argue this let me let you in on a little secret: what you play in the last days of a beta is, with the exception of the packager and a few small and last-minute polishings, the code that streets. This is my 12th beta so I speak from experience.



    Anyway, is it just beta rash or that I don't want a new FPS game enough or are these things really legitimate show stoppers (as I see them to be)?

    I think they are high if they think people are going to pay that much for a FPS that only takes maybe 3 months to do EVERYYTHING in the game. Maybe if it was $5 bucks or something reasonable for the game then it would make sense.



    Yeah I know there are alot of people going to be playing this game, but lately the lag has been Terrible. I could log on to TFC if I wanted that. The empire imbalances are a small problem to me that can be fixed.



    My main problem is that the game is getting boring already. I mean ever once in a while you will have a good fight but its almost always your squad has taken over an empty base or you just took over a base and another emp is coming for it, And since there is STILL NO INCENTIVE to defend people will just leave.

    And if you and your outfit do stay and defend the base everyone else leaves and leap frogs you to get exp from capping other bases.



    And the respawn times are better but still way to slow. Me and my team die more defending than we EVER do attacking, I'm not sure if this is true for everyone else but if it is you can understand the frustration of actually tring to defend a base or tower. I don't mind being out numbered and all that, its the 40 secs+ waiting between spawns that piss me off



    The one thing that does still amaze me is how a small squad of people can hold off 20+ players that are using the chicken with heads cut off tactic when tring to take over a tower.



    One time my outfit squad of 8 held a gun tower, there were 4+ vanguards so there was no going outside, a couple of reavers were keeping us from going out the top door so that left us split and covering the stairs and the CC from both ends.



    If you know your squad and people are going to run out in front of you or use grenades wrong, or other noob crap like that you can mow down MAXes, Troops, anything that will fit in the door.

    We held that tower for so long it was crazy, it was so funny they were majority of NC and a small mix of TR and out of all the bunch we only saw 2 MAXes from either emp.

    Far from it.



    The only thing wrong with infils atm is the red target bug when a reticule sweeps over them (particularily a sniper-zoomed reticule) which the devs stated as a to-be-fixed-bug.



    Otherwise, infils are fine.



    They're easy to play in the beginning because of the limited resources available to players (no darklight, no combat eng) but get progressively difficult as time goes on and people accquire these abilities. However, they are no means unable to overcome these difficulties.

    Goat -



    You already mentioned one of the two Sniper bugs. The other is that if you turn off fog table emulation on your video card and are at 6x or great magnification any Infil near the edge of your draw distance stands out like a neon sign.



    Although the devs seem to think otherwise the cheat of playing with your contrast and gamma on your monitor still makes Infils visible. Try it sometime and you'll see (the trick works for about 4 of 5 people... worked for me but not for the wife).



    The issue where an Infil, once detected by a motion detector (which, if you ask me is utter bullshit to begin with), has their name showing to enemies until the cows come home or they die/zone remains uncorrected.



    There is also the bug that if you are in Infil and use DL within 64m of an Audio Implant you show up on Audio Imp enhancement even if you are crouching.



    There is also the bug for VS Infils that 1 in 3 times you use your knife and turn on the secondary mode you remain in that partially visible state even after you've totally unequipped the knife.



    The VS Infil also has the pistol issue. The Beamer isn't worth the memory space the graphic for it takes up so we all use the AMP. However, after looting and using both the TR and NC-specific pistols I can tell you that the AMP looks like an inaccurate rubber band gun next to them.



    Over the last 2 days there have been reports of Infils popping out of a cloaked status even though they haven't moved or even touched their keyboard. Their cloaking icon still shows them as cloaked so they don't know there's anything wrong until a 3rd party tells them.



    Each of these issues has been reported to the devs with only a "we think it's fine" response.

    If you think I have a problem playing my Infiltrator please read my other posts in this forum about the fun I've had with it and some of the crazy stuff I've pulled off. AFAIK I've been one of the most intense Infiltrators in beta.



    However, between the nerfs and bugs introduced over the last 3 weeks (that the devs seem to not believe in, let alone have a repair plan for) my survivability and effectiveness has dropped drastically. I'm getting whacked by just about anyone no matter how cautious I am or what role I fill for the moment. I'm still an assassin and general troublemaker but people are getting a larger piece of my ass than at any time in the past. It's unbalanced.

    I forgot to add the "wall bug" where if you jack with your client-side graphic packs to make walls transparent or use the geography bugs around to peer through walls Infiltrators appear uncloaked (because they don't actually register as cloaked to you until the server thinks they are coming into your view).



    Add to this the "unplug" bug. Granted, this one isn't used much because it can hurt you as much as help you but if you interrupt your network connection briefly and then reestablish it any Infils in your FOV are uncloaked for about a 3 count.

    heh VS has been getting ever so slightly more screwed than the other emp's.



    I had some damn good dogfights last night,



    in one I had the guy lined up, he just had no chance and never saw me coming, but he put up the best fight I've ever seen.



    He is the only other person in the game Other than myself I've seen that is willing to fly thru a base, thru trees, and valleys to get away.

    After the dogfight I sent him a tell, telling him I was impressed with how well he dodged me for so long.

    Afterwards he told me I was the only person he'd seen that would actually follow him thru the trees and such.

    I told him how I do the same thing when I'm on the run. It was pretty funny.

    Most people will just circle then its just a matter of who gives up turning first then they are yours, unless they make a mistake then you can get them faster



    One thing I hate is no one knows how to stay on your wing and cover you. Or if you are covering them, they fly around and act like they are tring to lose you..

    I have been tring to teach a couple of outfit memebers how to stay in formation and such but its really hard to when you are typing while flying...

    But when I meet up with someone that knows what they are doing we can tear some shit up. One run with one reaver can't take out much above a harasser (depending on your speed), but with 2 reavers and your able to plan your strikes those tanks don't stand a chance.

    Gals still take a while but I usually just use the original bullets loaded in the for them, take out the rest of the bullets and replace them with extra missles.



    Also I can see where they needed to tone the VS maxes jumping height a bit, but now its just stupid. Now I can barely jump in time to dodge freakin tanks, and have to be in full run mode at top speed to jump a base wall and actually land somewhere that matters.



    No I don't think the MAXes should be able to jump to near the max altitude, but they way over did it, Esp considering how much better the other maxes are in comparison.

    Plus ever since that nerf the MAX capacitor has been buggy as hell, many a times I have had to /q out and jump back in the game cause the MAX cap bar wouldn't refill

    I'm too tired to look through the spaghetti tangle of the PS forums right now but before the "dev tracker" option on those boards Sporkfire said that while the exact amount had not yet been set that it would be "close in line with SOE's other big MMOG, around $12 or $13 a month".



    He has never changed that statement nor refuted it with any amount of prodding.

    I forgot to mention that I've been playing an infiltrator exclusively since closed beta =)



    Honestly, I've never ran into these situations before. However, I always suspected with how the game is coded (from observation) that these would all be plausible "hacks" to revealing infiltrators. I wouldn't call it a problem with infiltrators (game balance), but with the infiltration suit itself.



    The beamer sucking is something I've come to accept (as VS). I have a setup that utilizes the beamer for mine/turrent busting, but I use my amp setup more. I perfer tripping mines with my body to take out enemies coming out of the tower. And the TR/NC pistols are nice too, but the amp works just fine for me. The dagger being less effective miffs me, but more effective killing comes from amp for me, so it doesn't bother me too much.

    i play a sniper and through my scope i can see a cloaker like anyone else would see one that's running while cloaked. The difference is i see them like that when their crouching. Needless to say i can wipe out inf all day long, and this is without the darklight implant, just the range implant

    - I dont see this at all, playing NC i own TR and Vanu half the time, and get owned half the time. they all have advantages and if you dont use then i dont know what to say. also I have never noticed more then 5% difference in the empire players online balance.

    - Speaking of coming from Absors world, I wouldnt use that word until the games comes out. Nothing is a nerf only balance if you dont like that fact then you shouldnt be beta testing

    - I spent 1 hour last night outright owning people in a TR base with my infiltator, in fact there was a point where i was watching a tr try to rehack their base with a TR max watching and I crouched back behind the max and wasted the hacker by the time the max turned on his darklight i had hide behind the corner and as he opened fire on every spot in the room i grabed my opprotunity to sneak back in with another trooper and stayed behind the max with darklight for another 10 or so mins killing a couple more troopers. They dont seem broke to me I just dont think you have any skills with it (not an insult just practice and learn patiance.

    - Yeah and i think $8.50 + $3.75 (coke) = $12.25 is too much for a drink and a movie but thats the way it is. Business's are out to make money, thats what they do, get over it, or get out of it.

    What est is refering to isn't gameplay balance but graphics bugs that allow the infil to be spotted when he/she shouldn't be.

    Default yeah

    I realize there is a bug with the target retinal and maybe with air vehicles (i have seen stealthers with a mosquito but i figured that was because I was under 50% speed and had my radar thingy up). But he said they were useless and I completely disagree even if they are broken.

    Well, ebb, nice of you to turn this into flamage. That happens alot with the lack of parental supervision floating around these days.



    I could argue with you point by point. However, I'm one of those people that, when I see all those quote stacks, I scroll until I don't see it any more, so I'm certainly not one to create the mess to begin with.



    I'll only say that it does no good to post these things on the PlanetSide boards as 99% of the posts there cover these very issues yet nothing ever changes.

You and your negativity will do nothing for this game, In fact I bet you have never even made a bug post or for that matter contributed anything to this beta from the attitude you present with your post. I on the other hand am willing to weather the changes and the bugs with good humor until I feel they owe me something (when i buy the game) and try my best to contribute to the weel being of the game by playing it, reporting problems, and offering up suggestions to the devs.



    You just wanna bitch...
