Default The Diablo 3 monk discussion.

    Well? have at it!

Mines currently 56th level, midway through act 2 hell and for the most part i can manage solo with only 2 of my skill slots devoted to defensive/healing skills and the rest pretty all out attack. my dps is kinda low compared to other classes, maybe around 4200 dps, and i only have about a 95 highest resist.

Overall im kinda glad that the monk is (according to most at least) turning out to be the 'skill' class of the game. its very likely some buffs are incoming but even so its a fun character.

I hit 60 a while back, the new patch has made my survivability more realistic in inferno mode. I havent progressed past act 1, my gear is still under par for inferno but i can mostly hold my own with non butt-raping modifier packs of champions. mostly still trying to farm a few decent pieces with groups doing butcher runs, but getting some nicer drops since the patch (in number if not in usable equipment yet however).

    Multiplayer game, not MMO.

    MMO is like Everquest
Multiplayer game is like Quake 3

    That's the difference

    What defines a MMO then?
I'd say D3 is closer to EQ then to a shooter.. Although, perhaps not. I see your point.

    Well said

Shooter is bad example really on my part...Basically D3 is standalone and you can use battlenet to find other players (much like you do with Quake).

MMO's have a server where thousands of players come and go and interact with the environment. IE: WoW, EQ, Final Fantasy etc... (you can't do this standalone in your own world by yourself).

You still have access to play and interact with millions of people, the game just has a small group format. WoW doesnt stop being a MMO just because 6 people get in a group and enter an instance does it?

The chat isnt restricted to the people you are grouped with. you just arent passing all of them potentially in a city hub or something.

I don't care how you try to spin it, its not an MMO.

Just an example, but seriously look up the definition of MMO...

I'd have to agree... being able to only ever be with a max of 3 other players at any time throughout the whole entire game does not fit my definition of an MMO.

If Diablo III is an MMO, then so is an online game of Sorry!.

this isn't the mmo forum so who gives a crap

is it a computer game? then it's fine

also it's not the number of players that makes the game NOT an mmo its the fact that the entire landscape and maps are completely randomized each time you load the game. None static world is more non-mmo to me than what you guys are saying.

When only 5 people are left playing EQ it is still going to be catagorized as an MMO cause that is what it is.
