thoughts on spell effects, first glance

i saw the screensshots on castersrealm, and i was optomistic, but now seeing the effects live ingame i'm rater disapointed. first, jboots have no effect :/ not a huge loss, but upsetting, those were rather unique. so i log on the beastlord for a glance. every spell i cast had the look to it like it was created in macromedia flash by someone who didn't know about alpha or transparency settings. the effects are solid and have not retained the fluid, glowing motion of the old effects. i'll poke around with them for the next few days, but i see myself going back to the old effects (if there is a way, i neglected to read all the pathc message)

i dont like them one bit. they look too cartoony....or something. i like the ones from DAoC, they are pretty. the new chanter mez effect imo, is just as laggy, if not more laggy then the first ones. oh well, i only turn them on when not raiding anyway.

HP/AC buffs.. oooh orange and green. very ugly.



Sight spells: Oooh more your eyes now tingle longer than before...



Fire Spells: OW IT BURNS! (very nice touch on the flames engulfing the whole target)



Cold Spells: brrr



Mesmerisation spells: Hey where'd the target go? (engulfs humanoid targets in a huge bubble of purple spheres for a moment. you can't see your target)



Summon Spells: No change. just dark green particles instead of light green transparent



Ice Comet: INCOMMING! (do I really need to tell you?)

IMO I dont see anything wrong with em. The effects on Casters Realm were much cooler though...The big wolf head with SoW was neat looking. But what happened to it? Also, if you turn down the opacity of the particles, they look better.

Would be funny to watch a Wizard cast an IC and instead of the Blue effect, see the Words "ICY COMET INCOMING!!!" Twirl around their body.

Maybe with Blue letters and Black outline.

the worse one is Fire spells, when the NPCs hands (arms) are in fire. I nearly freeze when having 2 of those idiotic NPCs casting this kind of spells

They're ok when you have the effects turned down to nearly 20%. Otherwise it looks like a box of crayola crayons puked on my screen. When I first logged in, I was fighting 2 siren enticers in CS (working on shawl quest for my druid) and my entire screen was white...I couldn't see a thing from those things chain casting. It was horrible. I liked the old sparkly look of the old graphics but oh well...

The worst part to me is the lag it crated. Soloing enchanter mobs, I freaking slow down when they try to cast various spells on me (like mez). I had to turn the new effects off to avoid slowdown. I ran much faster with the old effects, AND they looked better.
