View Full Version : Mend Timer in new UI

08-15-2002, 08:02 PM
Ok first I take no credit for the mod itself, not that much into XML coding but I saw a very clean neat and effective 'mez timer' posted to the EQinterface sight which consisted of a 'clock' with 10 ticks (10 x 6 seconds for 1 minute). The timer counts to 1 hour (if left alone) then restarts.

I got to wondering how nice it would be to time mend so you know exactly when its due as I'm sure you've all had that ''will mend pop in time to save my ass'' scenario and then I realised that all I had to do was to make a hotkey that read:

/load UINAME 1 (NB. the 1 is to keep all your current window settings, sizes, positions etc etc)

and bind that hotkey to the same number as the one you use for your mend key (NB this is done in exactly the same way you bind your att or flying kick to your epic effect)

Lo and behold, the clocks happily counts away and then, when mend is used, the skin gets reloaded (maybe 1/2 sec delay on my pc) and your timer is reset.

Now I ALWAYS know when mend is due. Hope you find it as useful as I do.

The link to the counter mod itself is here (SS and download):

ps Mods I considered putting it in new features section but wanted to make sure everyone saw this as its monk specific and I know some peeps dont check that section, feel free to move it)

I dunno if a Mend Timer would be possible... I assume you want something like that little clock to come up, or start counting, when you use mend?

Pretty sure that's not something we can do from this side of the UI. =(

I thought this was a great idea! I don't know about you guys but I don't keep a stopwatch by my computer.

Using that timer mod as a basis I created one that counts down from 6 minutes.

Here (http://www.geocities.com/bob_m_fw/index.html) is a screenshot of MY UI with the timer (just above my Mend hotbutton)

The current limitations of the UI prevent you from being able to RESET the timer without reloading your skin set. This timer will constantly count down from 5:59 to 0:00 and restart. There are two ways you can use this timer:

1) You can ALWAYS keep it up and just note the time when you use your mend; when the timer cycles to the same time your mend will pop. (This is my preference)

2) You can bind a key to load your UI skin again when you use your mend. This will reset the timer so your mend will pop at 0:00. Unless you have a very high-end machine this will take a few seconds (to load the entire skin set again).

If you want to check it out you can get it here:

Make sure you RIGHT-CLICK and select 'SAVE TARGET AS'

www.geocities.com/bob_m_fw/timer.zip (http://www.geocities.com/bob_m_fw/timer.zip)

You can display (or hide) the timer window by using Alt-F1 which was used to open/close the pet window originally.

Great mod but everytime I reload my ui, all my hotbuttons revert to their numbers. It is very annoying to have to right click on every one and reassign them to FK, sit etc.

Is anyone else having this problem?

Its even more annoying to have everything reset in the wrong positions...

The timer page has moved to a new URL:

To avoid having all your windows reset into the default positions use the command "/loadskin name 1" where the 1 at the ends tells the system to maintain all your current window positions and settings, rather than load the defaults.

</p>

08-17-2002, 03:39 PM
I just loaded this timer mod to test it, and I noticed that when I do a /load <uidir> 1 to restart the timer to 0, it DOES keep the various windows in the correct place, but it also "resets" the action keys (6 general and 4 combat keys) to their default numbers.

Suffice to say this is quite annoying. The keys still seem to be the same as they were (like my feign death was the 1 key under the general tab, but now instead of saying feign death it says 1), but the display is defaulted.

Is there a way around this, or is this a side-effect of /loading a new UI?

Thanks.

It's a side effect unfortunately. The only way to fix it is to zone or camp. Hopefully they will fix that int he next UI update.

there's another way - make a copy of your UI ini file (like UI_Prodigious_75.ini), easy if you're using EQW, then load your new skin and fiddle around with the settings / xml files until you're happy. reload all you want.

then camp, delete your (newly created) UI_Prodigious_75.ini file, and rename the 'Copy of .....ini' to UI_Prodigious_75.ini, you'll have your old settings back.

Eh...this sounds like a decent idea. I still think we should try to get mend effect replaced with torpor or something though ^_^

I like Prince Sharming's mod. It is set to constantly count down from 6 min. I hit mend and look at what time it says. If I hit it at 2:34, I know that when the timer comes back to to 2:34, mend will repop. The only thing is that you have to get used to looking at the timer when you hit mend, something that is not always on your mind when a mob is beating on you.

</p>

I'm also using Prince Sharming's mod - which I like. One interesting thing that I've noticed though - the timer seems to work perfectly for timing primal (6 mins) but it's usually "off" with my Mend. For example, if primal procs at 5:30, it fades at exactly 5:30 but my mend "repop" seems to vary anywhere from a few seconds, to as many as 12 seconds or so. I watched this in conditions that weren't perfect, but were fairly "lag free".

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this? To me it's some indication that the mend bug is still out there, at least to some extent.

This happens to me as well, but not always. I noticed last night that my mend timer was almost 15 seconds AHEAD of my mend button repop. The night before that it was perfect. The night before that it was about 10 seconds SLOW, but if I hit mend immediately it would give me the "you have to wait 10 seconds before using mend" msg.

It seems like the client-side can be slightly out of sync when you load into the game. Sometimes the client is running faster than the server, and others it's slower. A really good example is that one say I was outrunning someone who had SoW and I only had RS3. This was my roommate and we share a connection so I know it was not lag. His computer seemed to be running just fine, and when tested he ran just as fast as anyone else with SoW. When I got SoW myself I could REALLY outrun him, it was like having bard song or spirit of cheetah.

The strange thing is that there's nothing you can do to re-create this "bug". If I turn my computer straight from off to on and login it can happen... then the next time I do the same thing it may not.

Anyhow, if you start getting seeing your mend take longer than 6 minutes I've found it's best to logoff and reboot. The next time you have a better chance at a normal timer.

Mend in not 6 minutes anymore, they added a few ticks ot the delay to get around the you can not mend again for x seconds.

Really crappy way around it, and it didn't totally solve the problem when they added it.

Ok, stupid question time, I assume that this "load skin" is done in a social. How the hell do I get a social and mend bound to the same button? Does it have something to do with making the (for me 3 Key) bind to two seperate fast slots? One in say the first box and one in the second? Every post I look for says "do it like you do your epic" but I have NO CLUE how the epic is done either...anyone want to answer this or is this another one of those "super secret" secrets?

Also, has there been any resolution to the loadskin problem where when you loadskin your buttons go away?
