View Full Version : On spawning the South Ro Ancient Cyclops
First, this is from a soloist POV. If you have friends helping, the odds are better; but the Ring of the Ancient/jboots are a severe temptation to anyone who doesn't have them yet - you'll find out who your friends really are, and who is honorable or not.
On Spawning the AC
Method 1 Explained to me by another player - hard to gainsay them as it worked - once
1. Go to undead tower. Don't kill the undead in the tower.
2. Wait until 8 PM EQ time.
3. At 8 PM step into tower and kill the undead there. Stay in the tower for at least a minute or two.
4. Run to the hill top just north of the DE camp and make like a radar antenna. Scan everywhere.
5. Wait
6. 10 - 15 minutes later the AC popped (sometime between 8PM and 2 AM?)
Method 2 (Allakhazam's AC Thread)
1. Starting at 6 AM, kill all undead in undead tower until you get "A dark boned skeleton" Don't kill it or let anyone else kill it.
2. Wait until 8 PM EQ time.
3. At 8 PM step into tower and kill the "A dark boned skeleton" there.
4. Run to the hill top just north of the DE camp and make like a radar antenna. Scan everywhere.
5. You may end up killing a SG between 8 and 12 midnight.
6. AC should pop between 12 midnight and 2 AM.
Note: I think maybe he means "A dry boned skeleton." - Zinj
Method 3 (Allakhazam's SoRo Thread)
1. Wait until 8 AM EQ time
2. Start killing undead, all of them you can get to.
3. At 4/5 PM go kill the undead that spawns in the tower.
4. Don't kill anymore undead.
5. Wait, a lot.
6. AC should spawn around 8-12 midnight.
Method 4 (Allakhazam's AC Thread)
1. Kill all SGs, all named mobs, and all undead.
2. AC pops shortly.
Method 5
Kill everything in the desert area and AC will spawn, someday.
There seems to be some players that have the AC figured out like clockwork, so there IS a method - probably method 1 or 2. I did method 5 and spent at least a week of RL nights there. Method 1 worked when I helped a friend get his.
Once he DOES spawn, you have to get to him first. Since he spawns in random locations this can be a problem and if someone else is closer, that's just too bad - try again. Common spawn areas are: in the triangle between the DE camp, western derv camp, and the butte; NW corner on south side of ridge that Ortallis likes to go to; NE corner down in the depression area; and although I've not seen him there, probably in SE corner between East Derv camp and Undead tower.
Get a stack of sow potions and hotkey one. As soon as you see the AC, hit the hotkey and then RUN!
Get a stack of player-smithed javalins and have them in your range slot, and have that hotkeyed too. Once you get close, start throwing as fast as you can to get first aggro before the archers and casters get him.
If you have to FD, you'll probably lose the AC to a soft-KS. If you're lucky, and you get him below 50%, FD and have someone try to take him, stand up and see if you still have aggro or not. If you haven't cleared aggro, the potential KS'er may just do you work for you and kill him while you get the xp and the looting rights.
Good luck on the Ring of the Ancients

There is a method i have heard of it involves someone who can sence undead
heres how it works:
ok first of all all the undead are on a 12hr game time spawn table
the undead are PH(suposedly) for sgs, terror, young ronin, named sg and AC
so wait a full day spawn time before killing undead to make sure all are spawned
then procede to kill all the undead between 8am and 5pm making sure all are dead except one in tower.
at 6pm kill one in tower
wait
will spawn sometime before 6am the next day
also been told that the named sg, terror, and ac are same spawn
so if one of those pops got to restart
rinse repeat
i have always got SOMETHING to spawn using this but not ac yet havn't been trying this way long though

Five people and myself were able to get four ACs in four eqdays from the following method:
Step One: Kill the tower spawn at 11 pm game time.
Step Two: Kill all of the undead and rare spawns in the sand until 4 am.
Step Three: Repeat the last two steps.

I've had quite good luck with the AC in SRO. My method has always been to kill all the undead and spiders all day, and keep an eye out for him during the night. I've also noticed a few times, not always so I'm not sayin' it's for sure, but 'a sand mummy' has spawned the ac a few times immediately after killed. I may be wrong and talkin' out my ass, just my 2cp though. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/ohwell.gif ALT=":">

Hey guys,
Just so you know, I've seen both the AC and terror up at the same time when fighting as my 51 druid, so although there may be a lesser chance of the AC if another named is up, I don't think that one being up is the exclusive PH for the AC.
I've also tried a few methods, but like 5 the best, as I got the AC to pop in about 5 mins for my wife's cleric with my 50 monk Knukle killing anything and everything around the desert area (including the tower mob as it popped).
Have also had 2 AC's pop in 45 mins using method 5, just have to get lucky <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)">

It's been a while (49 when I did it), but I'll post my experience of the camp. I saw the AC 6 times before I landed the first hit on lucky 7 (first hit is how it goes in SRo on Quellious, at least when I was doing him anyway, sigh). After trying most of those methods, in that week and a half of camping, I came to the conclusion that Method 5 is the best one, with a little bit of stradegy and luck thrown in.
The AC seemed to pop in 4 select places every time I saw him spawn. I saw him spawn twice in the NE on a high dune near the zone to Oasis, twice to the NW in a ditch north of the Gypsies, once just south of the Gypsies, and once SW of the Gypsies. Since I was too cheap to buy SoW potions for the duration of my stay, I came to the concluse that the only way I was going to get the AC was to camp one of those 4 spots. I camped the NE spot and he luckily spawned just east of me and walked right in front of me before anyone else spotted him. I was SHAKING I was so nervous. On par with Raster.
Anyone doing this camp, good luck to ya. It's a pain, but I love clicking the J-Boots on while running through a crowd, especially one in SRo<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)"> .

The Cyclops spawns in OOT (placeholders for AC) greened out at 52 for my druid, which means they're about the same levels as Seafuries. I didn't see how hard they hit (I was a dr00d, I tried not to get hit) but I imagine if you can kill a Seafury, you can do this camp.

Ok. I have a little experience on the AC. My main is a 54 Mage that I hate playing now, due to the level of him. He is the one I always camped the AC with. My monk is now 39, and I am having too much fun playing him.
Anyway. The AC is linked to the undead tower in S Ro. I have gotten the AC to spawn in S Ro twice, working the kill all undead, including tower method. The AC in S Ro is much weaker then the one in OOT. 1200HP in nukes and the pet beating on it took it down very fast.
OOT AC. I have gotten this one 13 times now. I camp it primarily for guild members, and my wife's and I's twinks. While there are horror stories of 36 hour camps, the honest rotation is about 7 hours. We camped it one weekend and got 6 rings over a 55 hour period. Weird thing was we got 4 in the first 9 hours of the camp. The last 2 took 46 hours. I have also camped it at other times, and they ranged between 2 hours and 13 hours to spawn. Once it spawned, I was contacting the next person on the list, we killed a PH, and the AC spawned again 6 minutes later. Unfortunatly, the guy I was talking to was very far away, so, another ring went to my guild.
These boots are priceless and life savers! After you have a character with a pair of these, you will understand the T-Boots are not even an issue.
Well, that is pretty much all I have to say. If you plan to camp it in OOT, make sure you set aside at least 7 hours for the camp, not to mention the time it takes to get your turn on the list (how we do it on Xegony). Bring friends, and pull Seafuries over for XP. At 54, about 3 of 5 Cyclops are still blue to my mage. I have leveled from 49 to 54 in the OOT. However, at 54, I camped the AC, and in 13 hours, got half a yellow (SOLO). Not an XP machine anymore.

Well here my story of three camping in south rho:
AC spawn when sun is raising (in EQ of course) around 4am - 6am.
If you can see those named during the day (never saw them at night):
A sand mummy
Named giant
Young ronin
Terror tarentula
Then the ac will not spawn next night.
Anyway, much funnier to make train of everything and use wizards to clear everything fast : )
Average camp time for me: 6 hours

Last night coming back from a GG from GD, me and my friend split paths. I started running towards Freeport when I see the AC just walking along the dune! I ran up and started attacking it while sending at tell to my friend who was on her way to guk. At 41 I think I could have soloed the AC, but wouldnt recommend due to possible kill stealers. Our server had just had a humungous dump and half the game was LD, I dont know if this had anything to do with AC spawn.. it was also almost morning EQ time...
Goodluck to all those questing Jboots

Check the Safehouse (Rogue Board) There's a thread there in "The Back Alley" has a very detailed guide.
</p>
Just 2cp worth, but killing all the spiders triggers Terror. I have also noticed a connection with A Sand Mummy (named?) and the AC. When we killed enought undead to spawn this guy the SGs and then AC would spawn soon after.

I used the guide on the safehouse boards. And I saw him in like 30 minutes of starting. Unfortunately a SK that happened to be passing through the zone aggroed him and trained him to the merchants. He was dead shortly after I targeted him. I even tried to aggro the merchants, too late. Another day...perhaps

Well, this was originally placed in the quest area since the information isn't/wasn't firm enough, in my opinion, for inclusion as a Guide. However, experience seems to indicate that it is very close to correct, so here it is.

Just another confirmation of the Safehouse method.
Ran into zone at 9pm game time.
Just me and my gfriends Shammy.
Ran to temple and killed crypt mummy.
Ran around and killed everything I saw.
SG spawned about 10 minutes later, killed it.
Another SG spawned, but Shammy was out of mana after getting happy and nuking a bunch of spiders..(lol)
So while waiting for mana, I continued to kill anything I saw and 'pop' the AC showed up..
Wacked him and got my ring! woot!..

Ran into zone at 2 pm EQ time.
Started killing all undead I saw after checking to see that 'a dry bones skeleton' was in tower.
At 4 pm EQ time I killed the DBS that was in tower and didnt' kill anymore undead.
At 10 pm EQ time an SG popped, killed it.
At 12 am EQ time the AC popped. (popped in same area the SG died, could be coincidence, could be clue as to where AC will pop, dunno)
Took me 10 game hours, roughly 30 minutes of camping, to get the AC.

I've gotten the SrO AC twice now, both just running through the zone on the way to Guk. I guess I was just lucky. Last time was just a couple days ago, only 1 other lvl 25 Mage in the zone. Some quick calls to Guild porters got me the support I needed asap (was at half health, and didn't wanna die to greenie) for a nice easy kill.
When running through that zone, just pay attention & you may get lucky.
NOTE: If you do get him and are waiting for support from friends, at least take him to a back corner or something. Won't stop the trackers, but will save you from SK's etc.. Seen one to many get KS'ed because they fought in the wrong area.

I dont think that they spawn on a timer. With me and some friends, we got 6 ac belts in about 4 hours. Granted you may claim its luck but we knew what we were doing and worked through the process. It helps to have some kind of tracker for sure. I'll give my jist of it.
All undead are PH for the undead in the house (the house type thingey by the wizard portal, its in the sand.) Then you kill the undead in the house and there is a different types of undead that spawn there. Now by killing the undead in the house there is a chance to spawn a sand giant, terrorantula, or the beloved AC. If SG or terror pops you must finish them off before you can continue. Pretty simple stuff but I can atest that the SRO camp is a million times better then the OOT one. If you follow this I gurantee you will be happy. My friend followed this tactic and got his jboots within 2 hours.

After reading this thread yesterday at work, I decided to head to SRo last night. I started clearing mobs for about 30 mins when a guildmate shows up for me to make him some jewelry. He decides he's bored and will help so he starts clearing spawns too.
Within about 15 minutes (maybe even 10) of him helping clear spawn, the Ancient Cyclops spawns!! Needless to say we took him down QUICK! hehe
I'm guessing I got lucky with method 5.
We then headed to WC and got a rapier. Grabbed the gold from the bank and headed to Rathe Mtns. We just zone into Rathe and I see a shout of someone wanting a tracker for Brother Z or his PHs. I check my druids' track and Hasten is up! I run around the corner from the zone line and there he is being hailed to hold him for me! Hehe, I quickly hail him and get a lovely new pair of booties!!!
Total time from start to finish for my jboots: approx 3 hours! And that was with a lot of messing around instead of just doing the quest.

Ive camped the AC in SRO with many of my characters and I too have seen SGs pop WAY more when killing the cats instead of the undead. I tend to believe the previous poster that the pumas are ph for SGs, which in turn are PH for AC.

If you use the following information please pop by and tell everyone here how well it worked =)
Get a tracker. Bards(like me) are the best for 2 reasons.
1, they run faster to ac than any other class period.
2, they can charm if it is being ks'd, reseting all damage, and if the idiot persists, can pop a dot on AC and keep it charmed so it poofs.
Ok now to learn how Sro desert works.
If a mob(non bug/spider/derv) spawns in DAYTIME, it will be a madman, puma, etc.
If a mob(same as above) spawns at NIGHTTIME, it will be a ghoul, cryptmummy, drybone, etc.
There is only 1. Let me repeat that... There is only 1! spawn for AC. Killing everything wastes your time, and you can keep "forcing" a spawn, the more spawns, the more chance the low % AC will spawn. Ok now how to get that one spawn to be seen.
Kill everything in morning that is undead.. starting with BOTTOM of track(reason is, respawns show on TOP) to work your way through ALL undead. They will ALL respawn as "alive mobs" except 1!
That is the AC spawn.
Now as long as no doof comes along and kills crap in the evening(doesn't happen often) you have it in your control.
Now sometimes from lag or something else "a shriveled mummy" will spawn 3x on top of each other.. just kill them all quick and wait another few seconds for new mob to pop up.
Didn't matter when I killed tower at all. It is part of the true 1 cycle, but I get him about every 2 hours when I kill tower at night or noon.
BTW respawn time of the next mob in cycle is about 2 track refreshes.. So every 3 times you hit track should be a new mob after you kill the last.
Also go to center of map(on the DE's camp) to get good positioning for him to spawn.
Also any type of multiquesting works.. I gave rapier and RoA to hasten, camped, got monk out and gave 3250gp and he has boots. (btw have someone sit and hail.. he has a tendancy to not wait for you to camp to take off)
</p>
Method 5 spawned him in 1 hour...A druid got to him first so I had to bribe him to get loot rights.
</p>

heres the method that worked for me. i hadnt read anything about how to get him to spawn, i just heard he spawns in sro if you kill a lot, so i did that...for 8 hours. i never saw him and eventually, it dawned on me that saturday evening probably wasnt the best time to be camping him since there was at least 5 others in zone trying to get him. so when my friends called me on the phone asking if i wanted to go to the bars, i gladly accepted, happy to get away from the hellish camp. i came home at about 3am cst, drunk off my butt and decided to log into eq and hassel my guildmates. of course, i had logged in sro, so while i was goofin around, i started killin undead. there were two others in the zone who were too low to be campin, so when he popped 50 feet from me, he was pretty much mine. the mid-teen level folks even came over to cheer me on while i dominated the dork <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/tongue.gif ALT=":p">
anyhow, thats my advice. go get drunk, but more importantly, try to get him when everyone else on your server is asleep (this was saryrn btw)

I cannot add much more to this discussion that hasnt been said already except for this. I have a 48 shaman that has personally looted 7 rings now. I would say 3 of them were just random strolls through the zone and the other four were all camped. Just a note, I have never camped the AC in OOT, only in Sro. 2 times I have been the only one camping in Sro when I received the ring, neither time did I kill anything in the tower but both times I had seen "a sand mummy" but shortly after killing him Husam would spawn not the AC. I currently have one ring sitting in my bank vault on my druid, I have 3 alts on my second account that have Jboots so I really dont have a need right now for it but plan to hold onto it for a while in case I make another alt. I run on Brell and I mostly play late at nights so the AC isnt as camped. Just my 2 copper pieces worth about 1/2 copper.

I did the camp at 49 in SRo and the kill was very easy, albeit the camp was very tiring. It took me a dedicated week of doing nothing but camping SRo looking for him, about 4 to 6 hours a day/night.
On Quellious, the rule at the time was pretty much first to attack gets him. With that rule in effect, it wasn't until the 7th AC I saw that I actually got the kill. Here's the account of how that camp went, as best as I can remember it:
I would pretty much kill anything I saw. I read all the stories about killing this mob at 8 and this mob at 5 and so on, but for me, everytime the AC spawned it was pretty much random. However, he did seem to have pretty dedicated spawn points. The first is when you first enter SRo from the Oasis, there will be a dune to your left. I saw the AC spawn 3 times here, and this is where I got my kill. The second is just a little bit south-west of that dune, there's a resession that's fairly prominent (it's just north of gypsie camp, just below a high dune). I saw him spawn twice here. The third, and final point is just a little bit south of the gypsies. I saw him spawn here twice in a row in two game nights.
Another important thing to add is that I only saw the AC at night; the latest time was 7am. I have a friend who did the quest looong before me and I'm pretty sure he said his AC spawned at 3pm, so it may have just been timing, but every time I saw him spawn it was at night or early morning.
As for PHs, well, I killed pretty much everything. Spiders, Giants, Undead, you name it I killed it. PHs that concerned me though were generally Giants, and anything that had an "A" in its name. Reason being is after about the first 3 ACs I saw, I started to notice Giants and the "A" named creatures spawning in the same or close to the same spots the AC spawned in. Again, it could be a coincidence, but if I were going to go for certain targets, it would be these.
The AC himself is quite weak. At 49 with average equipment, a Trance Stick and a KD, I was able to pretty much own him. A helpful Druid came by and nuked him once for me, but the AC in SRo is very easy.
Hope this info helps and good luck to anyone who takes the time to do this camp.

Ok I read this thread last night and decided I would try and get my new monk (lvl 32) some jboots. I got on my friends lvl 56 chanter and went to Sro. I was the ONLY person in the whole zone. It was like 3 AM in the morning. I summoned my animation and ran around killing everything I could, ESPECIALLY undead. I killed from like 4 PM game time til 11 PM. At 11 PM I killed the "a drybone skeleton" in the tower. Most of the time the skellies name is "dry bone skeleton." Anyways, after I killed that at 11 PM game time, I continued killing every single undead thing I saw. Then at around 1 AM or 2 AM game time, the AC popped in the northeast corner of the zone, ran over there and dropped it then got a friend to help me MQ the boots. I cannot say if this particular method works every time, as I have only tried it once so far, but it did work the first time for me, but who knows maybe I just got lucky. My cleric still needs a pair tho, so I'm sure I'll be trying the same thing again soon.

I have spawned the AC in SRo a total of 5 times. The only tactic I used was to kill everything in the zone, including anything that spawned in the undead tower. Most times I have done this solo with either my 45 Necro or my 50 SK, the other day I was in SRo and managed to spawn the AC twice in maybe a two hour period, so now my level 15 Iksar Monk and my girlfriend's level 15 Cleric are sporting the bootys.

I've gotten the AC 3 times in S Ro, using method 5. This was earlier this year and last year. He was an easy kill for my 45 monk.
Over the last two weeks I've spent a total of about 26 hours in s ro camping him, using the 'secrets of sro' method and the 'kill darkbone at 8pm' method. Never even saw him, although I got every other rare to spawn several times. Killed Terrorantula 3 times, Erg Bluntbruiser 4 times, Scrounge and a_jackal at least 10 times, and about 700pp worth of SGs.
Over the last two days I camped the AC in OOT. At 51, I couldn't solo 80% of the placeholder cyclopses, which can be as high as level 42 or 43 and have a ton of hitpoints (took me 3-4 minutes to beat them down on average).
With cleric backup it was an easy camp though and fair exp. The camp is a bit more respected than the SRo one although with my poor luck I did have someone try to KS it but thankfully my team prevailed. Took a total of 18 hours in OOT. In that time my monk got 6 blues in 51, the cleric got 3 yellows in 41. Made about 450pp from coin and gem drops.
At 44 hours total this last AC camp was nearly as long as my Raster camp, while all previous ones had been 4 hours tops.
Randomness bites.

3 ACs down...
First AC: Waiting on a Rez during a raid, I stopped by S Ro since it was night time.
Use the magic phrase:
/gu I'm pretending to camp the AC while I wait for that rez (very important, note the first part of that line)
Sit on a peak over looking the DE camp. Kill any pumas, skelies or snakes that walk by. The AC will spawn. Run and Kill.
I got this Halloween night this year, and had to wait 2 weeks for RM to reset to complete the bloody quest
Second AC: Waiting on a rez in hate.
/gu hehe, I'm pretending to camp the AC again.
Guildy tells the guild: Someone capped him an hour ago, don't hold your breath.
5 minutes pass
--Iudar has looted a Ring of the Ancients--
/gu I'm ready for that rez now
/tell EQWife Happy BDay love, the AC stepped on my head, so I beat him up and took his ring (yes, it was her BDay)
Third AC:
Waiting on a rez in CS, with nothing better to do.
/tell Friend hehe, I'm pretending to camp the AC again while I wait for Monicaa (EQWife/ 51 cleric =) to log in
Pop, Bang, Dead
Each time, I was in the zone less than 10 minutes (while in the ~38 hours I spent actively camping it, I never saw it once)
Secret to camping the AC:
1: Do it while waiting for a rez
2: Remember the magic phrase "I'm pretending to camp the AC"

From my experience, the Named mobs (most of the 'a' mobs) are PH's for SG's, and the SG's are placeholders for the AC. AC spawned for me about 20 mins after killing a SG. I love my new boots! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/roll.gif ALT=":rollin">

Well, I spent 6-8 hours over the weekend with a high level caster, killing undead and sometimes spiders. The end result was no AC. My conclusion was that I am really unlucky.
After giving up, I logged on a warrior alt on my second computer and just had him stand north of the gypsies. Up to this time, I had never even seen the AC. This is after over 2 years of playing EQ. I was at least hoping to see some caster nuke him down. I start web surfing, etc. on my first computer and then happen to glance over at the other screen. Standing on a sand dune is a one-eyed, Homer Simpson looking individual. I run my level 42 warrior over and hope to get him to half before the nuking starts. I wasn't sure if my warrior would live through it or not. About 2 minutes later a dead AC is laying at his feet.
Lesson learned. Camp him with a well prepared high level nuker trying the various spawn methods, nothing. Camp him with an underpowered melee killing nothing in the zone, get the spawn. Either I haven't figured out the pattern, I'm really unlucky when I try spawn methods, or it's a random spawn.

I have gotten 5 ancient rings. 2 camped. 3 100% luck of running thru Sro and finding him.
These are some things I have noticed.
1) Alot of the undead are KOS to madmen.
2) Alot of the Orcs are KOS to madmen.
These are some guesses and idea's.
1) kill undead in tower, this triggers a 30 minute cycle.
2) There is 1 madmen who is PH for any of the 5 named mobs (IE: AC, SG, Husam)
3) Kill all the mobs KOS to madmen (I mean, if you look at it why would orcs and mummies be able to kill madmen) if they werent for something.
4) At the end of the 30 min cycle, if the madman is still alive, he will despawn, causing a "special" mob to pop..
This is just an idea of mine, because it seems like a simpler version of how to get Pyzjn to spawn. Getting her to spawn is very tough to do and its hard to make everything run exactly. BUt i got GBS in 1 EQ night. so i think these 2 mobs could be similar in how to spawn.

I camped it 6 times - not everytime for me
First try - KSed by a wizard after some hours of wait (8 hours)
Second try with a tracker - we just killed the undead in the tower then tracked. It spawned near the tower some minutes later. (Given to a shadow knight)
Third try same tracker - kill undead, track, find it in a zone wall. (Given to a warrior)
Fourth try - kill undead, wait 5 hours, leave, learn the following day that it spawned 45 minutes after I left.
Fifth try - kill undead, Homer Spawns near the tower, goes towards the dervish camp near the tower, I get my ring. (I haven't my boots yet)
Sixth try - (for a chanter friend), kill undead, wait 6 hours, leave (it was yesterday)

I've done the AC camp quite a couple times, and i've noticed something
Izera N`Kar may be a possible PH. I've never, *ever* seen the AC spawn while she is up.

Got my ring yesterday while looking for the Young Ronin for the shackle quest, was whacking all the madmen, someone killed the mob in the undead tower at 8pm, a SG popped at around 10pm (I had killed 3 "a madman", 4 "sand mummys", and 2 "giant rattlesnakes" since 8pm).
Trained SG to merchants, SG died, 1 min later "a skeleton" attacks me, killed, 30 seconds later "a skeleton" pops right infront of me, killed, around 30 seconds later AC pops near the derv camp (undead tower side).
I have tried this same method before several times with no results, so I think its just plain old luck.

This weekend I helped 3 people get their jboots using a tactic that I came up with a few months ago.
Hang around the NE corner and kill absolutly everything that shows up or wanders north of the Derv camp and east of the Oasis zone. Snakes, Spiders, Undead, Pumas, Giants, Orcs, Madmen, Frenzed ghouls, Cazic Thule and snow bunnies. Hell if your on a red server, try slaughtering players too.. can't hurt. Key thing is if it moves in your zone, it dies.
That's it. One time last autumn when I was trying all the different spawn methods, it hit me. What if the AC was coded like the Ancient Croc in Uguk and had multiple PHs that all need to be killed to attempt another spawn and he is just a rare spawn mob. This seemed to jive with all the guys that use showEQ shouting that he's not triggered, so I tried killing everything.
Well, I saw him spawn 3 times that day, twice in the area of that corner, and once just to the west of the zone in, north of the DE camp. I wasn't able to take him though cause I got KS'd every time. He also only spawned at night. Well, I remembered that often times a wandering mob will pop at a random place along his wander path, but they do have set paths, so next day I parked myself in that corner and started killing.
Didn't work too well for me at the time cause I was to low level to kill the giants that spawned, and I got killed once.
Next day a necro friend of mine went there with my advice and left 2 hours later with the Ring.
I gained a few levels and came back to test it and cleaned up the NE corner, getting my ring in less than 2 hours. Now 6 members of my guild have jboots, and some of their alts do as well.
Now I'm not going to say this is instant results. It's not a trigger, it simply forcing a spawn. The AC is still a rare spawn mob and this is the best way to make sure his PHs are killed, but you still have to get lucky and get the AC to spawn, which only happens at night. I have seen people waiting here for as long as 4 hours waiting on an AC spawn before they get it, but that's about as long as it take.
Anyway, for those who insist they have the right way and refuse to give this an honest test, more power to you, enjoy your undead tower, slaughtering mobs with r in their names or whatever the trigger theory of the day is. For those who do decide to try this however, enjoy your new boots.

well , i talked with a GM about all this and they sai no one has gotten it down yet , in 3 years no one has come close to figure it out ...
its a random spawn and i have seen 2 in 5min and i have seen one in a one weeks time , i have gotten him 36times and now have 360kpp .. i just sit and wait and watch all the other people run around like fools and kill everything ...
i just find it funny how there seems to be like 400 ways to spawn him and nothing really "works" but time.
FYI , the undead have nothing to do with it , and if you think spiders do , your sadly mistaken
GL to yall in your fight for the AC , Sro is a bad place for you , head to OOT , its got the fastest spawn time for the AC ......

Any of these theories about spawning the AC must include the possibility of him spawning during the day. I've had him pop right in front of me once at 10am and another time at 3pm. I have also seen him up at other times of the day during daylight but didn't actually witness the spawn. Of course I've seen him spawn at night too.
Take care

Okay there are 2 things I've noticed after spending 6+ hours trying to get the AC to spawn.
1) The rare spawns that pop such as "a skeleton" "a rattlesnake" "a madman" "a jackel" are really much too low for the area.
2) There's always 1 spawn out there that moves at run speed no matter what, and you practically need sow just to catch up with it.
Can we get some theories on this?

Ok guys...I have myself spawned the AC in SRO 16 times to date..all the nonsense about being a certain time is just that nonsense...He spawns as a random spawn..undead and different named mobs, such as sand mummy, mummy, madmen, ronin, do seem to help the spawn..keep killing these, including the undead in the tower and he will spawn..you will get 1 of 3 spawns..named SG husam, terrorrantula or the AC....he is random..time doesn't matter and he can spawn right behind one of the other big mobs ..but be prepared to wait for a while..shortest spawn was 30 minutes..longest was 18 hours..

Everytime I have done it, I just grab some friends (tracker) and kill all the rares (odd-named mobs). Theres a website that has a nice list of the rares, but it's been lost in my many OS reinstalls <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/frown.gif ALT=":("> .
I just kill the rares, and AC pops. Never even touch the tower spawn whatsoever. Never bothered with game time. Seems to just be EQ's normal rare spawn rotation, just with a lot more rares on the table, AC being the most rare. Also seems to possibly be two different rotations, one being AC, the other being Terrorantula, each with different spawn table.

One of the most sought after answers to one of the most vexing questions has been how to get the ancient cyclops to appear.
Despite all of the misinformation that has been spread around by both Verant and other players the truth is far simpler than anyone could have guessed!
Though I cannot divulge the source of my information, (for reasons you will soon see) I can tell you how to summon him.
The answer is simply call him by name!
Apparently, some spawns can be zoned to or summoned by GMs by using specific call phrases that summon the creature forth. Mostly used for quests rather than technical issues this particular call phrase was not limited to GM and Guides only.
The call phrase is as such:
/shout I call upon the might of the <name here>!
Get this! The Ancient Cyclops' name is Winkle!
His last name is Fohskyn.
So the great and wonderful secret we've all been waiting for is here! Save your applause and just have fun.
P.S. I'd suggest trying this when the zone is relatively quiet or simply ask anyone else nearby if they have seen Winkle. They'll know what you mean and may be willing to help you out. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)">

I'd just like to post that I can almost certainly confirm that Method 2 works to spawn the ancient cyclops. When I camped him for my Necromancer, I did this method 6 nights in a row, and saw the cyclops all 6 nights (twice on the last night, which means that it may be possible to get him to spawn another way as well) Got KSed every single time except for the last when I chain-lifetapped the hell out of the second one the minute I saw him.
So yes, killing the skeleton DOES seem to make the ancient cylops spawn, each time, it was between 12-2am, a giant HAD popped between 8-12, and no other giants were up at the same time as he was.

ok well i got to admit that many of these posts are very close to the actual way to spawn the AC, but the fact is that there are 6 ways to spawn him. i dont normally tell this to a board with as many people looking at it as this, but monks NEED JBooties to function in many situations. I must admit that my main is a Warrior and they need JBoots as well, but not to the degree that monks do. everyone needs a pair ($$$!!!) i recently inherited a monk from my friend and he lacked the ever essential JBoots. i must have died 5 times where Jboots could have saved me. i finally decided that i would once again return to my old hunting grounds (Sro) and claim from the cold, fat fingers of the AC what was needed of him. i have camped the AC since june 2001 and i have (killed) the AC 19 times total since then. Though i have actually seen (and supposedly spawned) the AC 37 times. I only recently stopped camping him to resume lvling. so without further ado, the way that i spawn the AC:
There are six different "cycles" that the AC can spawn through and all of them are contained with in the desert.
The cycles are (listed in easiest to hardest):
THE MADMEN (A Desert Madman, A madman, (Pos) Anumnan Dathry)
THE BUGS (A desert tarantula, A dune tarantula, green bugs, Terrorantula, Terrorantulalings)
THE GIANTS (A Sand Giant, Husan (sp)
THE UNDEADS (A shriveled mummie, A crypt mummie, a dry bones skelleton, a skelleton, zombies (males and females), a ghoul, a sand mummie)
THE TOWER (Drybones skeleton, ghoul, Shrivled mummie, Obules)
THE MISCS (A cictern asp, a rattlesnake, a giant rattlesnake, (pos) dervs, a jackel, Scrounge, a cyote, a young ronin, an orc raider, an orc warrior, an asp, a dervish cutthroat, Erg Bluntbruis)
all you must do is kill the mobs listed and he will spawn.... when he is good and ready that is. it normally takes me 30 mins to 3 hours to spawn him. also it may be easier for you to just kill everything in the desert, as the cycles contain most of the mobs there anyway. oh and just to clear things up, the ACs spawn point is ABSOLUTLY RANDOM there is no special spot he spawn at. have fun!

I have got to be the luckiest SOB around. I went to Sro after reading this thread last night expecting to be there for some time. When I zoned in, there was an SG running around, I killed it. There was only one other person there a 50 chanter. I stood on one sand dune, he on another, other than 3 shriveled mummies that agroed me I killed nothing else. About 30 minutes later I see something behind a dune, run to it and lo and behold its the AC, killed it, got my ring, another 30 minutes later with a druid friend, tracked down Hasten and got my Jboots.
Phew!

Things I've noticed while camping the AC:
- The named sand giant (Hasam or whatever) is NOT on the same spawn cycle as the AC. I have seen them both up at the exact same time.
- The special 'rare' mobs and Terrorantula seem to be on the same cycle. They also seem to spawn immediately when you kill one. e.g. I killed Terrorantula, looted the corpse, and turned around to see none other than Terrorantula walking around. So if the AC is on this cycle, he could spawn immediately after killing something on the cycle.
- I have come across the AC twice within a minute of killing 'a jackal', a rare mob. The jackal is very easy to notice as it's the only grey wolf type mob on the desert other than Scrounge, who is even rarer. (I have seen the AC more often than Scrounge)
- What someone mentioned about the ancient crocodile in Guk is probably true. I have seen up to 5 spiders spawn on top of eachother at the exact same time. They generally spawn and immediately start walking in different directions. Whatever cycle they are on, the next mob on the cycle probably won't spawn until all those spiders have been killed.
- I have no idea if the trick to spawning the AC at night works, but I do know that I have seen him spawn during the day and night.
- The AC once spawned in the middle of the gypsy camp before my eyes. Smith T'Vysa (sp) killed him in less than 60 seconds of his spawn.
- I have never seen the AC in the same spot.

Highly unlikely. I would flat rate say NO!but then some chanter will come along and charm the Terroranchula and have it kill him for them or Some such. He is a little easier than a Sand giant so if you can take out Sand giants there you go! Monk would have to be in the late 40's or highly twinked to solo him.

This is the desert tarantula/puma/Terrorantula cycle. Either up to 6 spiders, 4 pumas or Terror (rarely) spawns on this cycle. Verified with my ranger. Maybe AC spawns on it too?

I began my camp by just killing anything I could find. Twelve hours later, no luck.
So I tried Method #2, and ended up seeing the AC spawn three EQ days later.
First EQ day, killed "a drybone skeleton" at 8PM EQ-time. At 10PM EQ-time, a couple of SGs spawned, I killed them. Sometime between 4-6AM EQ-time another SG spawned. Killed it too. The same exact thing happened the next EQ day. During this time, in between killing the drybone and SGs, I would just go kill random mobs.
At this point in my camp (13 hours) I was really tired, and ready to go. I decided to stick it out for one more EQ-day. I stopped killing random mobs in the zone at this time. I just feigned at the Undead Tower and waited.
The THIRD EQ day, I killed "a drybone skeleton" at 8PM EQ-time, nothing new. But no SGs spawned at 10PM EQ-time. At 4AM, the Ancient Cyclops spawned near the Undead Tower (in that "trench"). I about pissed myself when I saw him.
I have no idea if this is the way to do it, but that's what happened with me. I had some problems killing the SGs over the course of my camp, but anything I couldn't handle I just trained to the Gypsy Camp and let them take care of it.

A few points to hopefully clear up all the misinformation and misunderstandings about the Ancient Cyclops in the Southern Desert of Ro..
A) The mob that spawns in the tower is nothing more than the placeholder for a named skeleton necro named Obletl.. Who drops a "chared bone" used in a quest in Paineel for a decent low to mid lvl helm for human and erudite clerics (has deadeye effect on it so they can see in the dark).
B) Neither the sandgiants, nor Sandgiant Husam, nor Terrorantula, nor Moldrak Drin, nor the Ghoul of Takish-Hiz, are on the same spawn table as the AC.. at least not from the stand point that killing one of them will chance a spawn of the AC. I have spent more hours than I care to recount on the test server (where SRO is typically a ghost town, even with LDoN aventures hosted there) just watching and studying the spawns.. and have seen Husam, Terror, the Takish ghoul, Moldrak, as well as two sandgiants up at the same time as the AC and all of them spawned within a 10min period and stayed up for almost 30min RL time.. and there was no one, I mean not a single soul, in SRO cept me for almost 2 real life days.
C) "Young Ronin" - "a dervish cutthroat" (all small letters, the only one that spawns away from the three camps and wanders) and "Erg Bluntbruiser" are on the same spawn table independent from the others, and have nothing to do with the AC.
D) The only mobs in the zone that you will NOT see up at the same time, are.. "a mummy" - "a sand mummy" - "a jackel" - "a madman" - "Scrounge" - "a giant rattlesnake" and "an asp".. Not only will you not see any of these mobs up at the same time, but you will rarely ever see more than one of the same named mob up. I say rarely because thats the key to the AC, which is on those mobs spawn table. Every so often.. (in Eq terminology that means RARE.. heh) you will see two of them pop at the same time or one right after another even though ones still up. Like seeing two "a mummy" up or another one spawn as your chasing down the one that just popped on your track window. It is that "double roll" lets call it, that spawns the AC. Of course he can spawn in place of any of them but he can also pop up as your running one of them down like what has happen to me a dozen or so times.
I didn't post this information just so I could glorify how many times I have killed the AC or that I think I know more than everyone else.. but across 6 servers with 11 different chars I have killed the AC 127 times. I have lost the AC 17 times, but not to a ks, I simply didn't rush right over to him because I was paying more attention to who just spawned with him if any did, and who is already up as the AC spawns.
That brings me to the last point.. E) The reason that "method -5" seems to work for most people is simply because they are killing most of those mobs mentioned in my list of 7 uncommon spawns, as well as resetting the spawn tables for the whole zone way more often than they would on their own.. If you watch the mobs, they reset themselves.. the wandering orcs fight the undead, the undead fight the jackel, scrounge, and the wandering dervish clan (Ronin and Erg), the DE vendors fight the sandgiants, and the sandgiants fight the dervish camps..
If I could suggest anything to anyone, it would be to bring a tracker.. At 10pm game time start killing the 7 uncommon mobs whenever they pop up on track till at least 5am, and simply hope he spawns next instead of another one of those you have been chasing down during that time frame.. You can kill as many things as you like between those hours, but don't have to kill anything else if you don't want to. Keep a sharp eye on your track window and the screen between the hours of 12am and 4am game time. I know people have seen the AC up at daytime hours, but he didn't spawn then.. your just seeing him crest a dune or graphic warp or something and he's been up for hours of game time already.
Honest to Tunare.. /em raises his hand in admiration of the gods.. Of the 144 times I have seen him spawn (not counting times I just happen to wander in the zone and he was up), I actually saw him pop in my track window or plop down within viewing range, and it was never outside that time range. Not saying he doesn't, but come on.. 144 times all in the hours of 12 to 4.. If you calculate the numbers, the highest probability is that those are his spawn times..
Good luck camping.. Enjoy your Jboots.. Never took me more than 4 game days to have him pop..
One warning though...... I have lots of alts, if you see a white wolf sitting high up on the desert wall at the Oasis zone.. The AC is camped! You won't get to him in time, ask me to send you a tell when I'm done.. =P
