I have worked out a great macro for training skills, it gets multiple skills up at a time and it does it fast
First, find out what skills you want to train, I suggest Sneak, Forage, ID and Sense heading.
Click on your Abilities button and It make Sneak in the 1st ability slot, Sense heading in the 2nd, ID in the 3rd and Forage in the 4th.
Now Make a macro that does this
/doability 1
/doability 1 (To turn off sneak)
/doability 2
/doability 3
/doability 4
Enjoy!

I suppose for some races forage would work but Iksars start life at 50 and end there.

similar to mine...I had a hot key that did...
/doability 1 (sneak on)
/doability 2 (Feign death)
/sit off (Stand up after feign)
/doability 3 (Instill doubt)
/doability 1 (Sneak off)
I found that having the sneak on then sneak off would somtimes stop the sneak off from working, if I spaced them out it worked great

just put sense heading or any skill on your "flying kick/whatever secondary attack" button, and make sure to pump it during fight.

heh I pul sense heading in my left turn button, every time I turned left I got some spam, but I maxed it in 2 days without eorrying about it.. of course that was a looong time ago.
Here's a nifty trick.. go to some non-mob infested body of water with banks you can't crawl out of, start swimming while facing a corner and tilt your head up out of thew water if you dont have an EB item, hit numlock and walk away.
Ta-Da instant max swimming!
It's the first thing I do with all my twinks now..

I've maxed swimming on all my characters this way.
The walls in the waters near FV work great and a little water hole inside of Grobb too... also, up against the walls near the docks in BB.

I discovered this with my first Human monk on Erollisi Marr... the little drainage channel next to the Ashen Order house in West Freeport is too shallow to drown in (no Air meter ever appears) but you can swim up against the barriers at either end of the area, turn on auto-run (auto-swim) and walk away for an hour or 2.

Just for shits and giggles, woul dthis be considered an exploit? I saw a guy do it in rivervale once, and his afk message said he was training swimming. I always wondered if he could have gotten in to troouble for this.
Hey, that was already asked. How can you post that again? Hey, how can you not know that?

would this be considered an exploit?
If it WERE, Every Bard would be banned. :-) They just generally raise their skills by starting a continuing song ONCE, then wander away. Of course, since the 1st continuous song they get for Brass is an AoE damage song, they have to be VERY sure that there's no NPCs that path that way unless they want either massive faction hits or to find themselves standing naked at their bind point when they get back to the machine.

You all have to admit that Monks kick ass... but we have a lot of skills to constantly train. We sacrifice a game of gems for ID-FD-Sit... or 5,6,7 like I have them hot keyed. We all know workin on only ONE skill would seem like a waste of time, but if you throw another couple of skills in the mix... you have a grand investment! So follow along and we'll try to get this right the first time round.
Baking is down right awesome, not profitable, but awsome. As Monks, we travel light anyway, so why not give ourselves a stat bonus while reducing the weight of our grub? So invest in a "spit". Trader's Holiday in E. Freeport has 'em cheap. 2nd get as many Large Backpacks/Lg. Boxes as possible. While in E.FP, go to the docks and buy enough fresh fish to load up each bag half way. Then go to W. Freeport and go into the Arcane Science Building and buy enough bat wings to fill the remaining slots of your bags. Now you should have everything you need to bake. Go round the corner to the Ashen Order House and jump in the canal. Start swimmin! Swim up against the wall and hit number lock. You will remain swimmin for as long as you want and never drown. Next hit the "I" button and access your inventory. Pop open the spit and a bag containing fish and wings. Place one of each in the spit- hit combine - and bingo you'll probably fail. No worries... cause what you are doing is increasing your skill at baking! (You should put one point in Baking to start) I promise that your baking will go up and around 20 you will start makin an occasional fish roll. You can use fish rolls to take you to 135 skill and by that time, you have a bunch of kick ass trivial stuff you can make to give your self points to str, agi, dex or whatever.
So now your swimming skill is going up and so is your baking... now is the time to train in a few more while your at it. Put both Sneak and Instill Doubt(If you're of level) next to eachother in the hotkey bank*Remember your number keys corespond to the hotkeys. So lets say they are 5-Sneak and 6-Instill Doubt, press 5,5,6... (5 sneak start,5 sneak stop,6 ID) While they are greyed in your hotkey bank, start placing items in your spit. By the time you are finished hitting combine, your sneak and ID should be refreshed. There you go, four skills-Swimming,Sneak, Instill Doubt and Baking. All in the same amount of time and hardly any extra effort. You can also swap out swimming with FD and use a combo like this 5-ID,6-FD,7-Sit,8-Sneak... so it would be 5,6,7,8,8 bake 5,6,7,8,8 bake...another way to work four skills. Good Luck!

Quote:
I suppose for some races forage would work but Iksars start life at 50 and end there.

Human monks can't forage.
I'm not sure (haven't played my rogue in a while) if it's Hide or Sneak that doesn't work in the water. If it's Sneak then you can't swim, sneak, and bake at the same time (How would you bake underwater in the first place? hmmmm)
I ID and FD all the time in groups, they always comment on my "poses" or "ancient rituals" or whatever they wish to call it. When they comment, I use my Goblin Gazughi Ring (instacast, targetable, invis to animals.. pretty worthless really, unless there are any though animals I don't know about) about 100 times on them..looks awesome heh, and I max my "annoying proc" skill at the same time. I sneak, sense heading, ID while I run, but I don't FD cause it takes too long to get up after the cool Iksar animation.
Here are some tricks I've heared about, some may already have been mentioned:
Make Sense Heading go off every time you turn right (or left or whatever) it trains fast that way and you don't have to mash buttons.
Make a macro with your special attack with Sense Heading or something, and mash that during fights. You will do your special and train a skill at the same time.
FD and ID during downtime.
Use them guild practice points.
If your weight allows you to, work on a rade skill during downtime after you've maxed FD and ID.
Make them macros.
If you have a snarer in your group ID during fights instead of your special attack, (Or both if you can time it right) make sure they snare it first though.
Oh, and here's an unrelated trick I use. I se many monks dropping silver and copper all over the place, since their group leaves autosplit on. I don't. I tell my group to leave autosplit on, and when my weight goes above 15 (my current limit) I type /split 0 0 74 68. This will split 0 pp, 0 gp, 74 copper, and 68 silver to the group. The group will like the extra cash without having to pick it off the ground, and you can manage weight more easily this way.

OKay..
I made two macros.. one for when I'm fighting and using skills and one for when i'm just wandering around... basically the second just adds sneak...
BUT.. my question is.. I just got FD yesterday /cheer.. how can I put that in my macros?? It doesn't show up as an ability.. it shows up in combat.. I can't just add /doability blah to my macro to practice fd.. or can I replace on of my ability buttons with the FD one??
am I being dense?? or is the sleep deprevation of LOVING my new baby monk beginning to show??
If anyone is on ARo.. I sure would love to meet ya!
Thanks

Bro, trust me, you can sneak in the water... it has no affect on your ability to swim, it just makes you indiffernent in the water... And as far a bakin' underwater-you need a place where you can't drown-like the Ashen Order's canal. Humans monks know the trick, you can swim all day and never worry about drowing. As you are swimming you open your inventory and start placing stuff in the spit. You will never stop swimming, allowing you to increase skill there as well as increase baking skill. Instill doubt just makes you do look funny in the water but doesn't stop your forward progress. If you set up your macros right, you can sneak, swim, ID and bake all at the same time. If you begin sneaking and then jump in the water, you move really slow, and once turned off cannot reactivate until you are on dry land (as the confirm messages says)
As far as weather or not skill increases in water, I've never tried it so it might still work nonetheless.

as far as combat and ability sectioned items... look at it this way...
the layout for /doability (number) is like this
under ABILITIES
ONE --- TWO
THREE --- FOUR
FIVE --- SIX
Under COMBAT
SEVEN --- EIGHT
NINE --- TEN
ELEVEN --- TWELVE
There you go... i think that's how it all works out... the numbers correspond to what you have set to each button... the combat abilities are merely a continuation of the ABILITIES section...

I've never used sneak to avoid aggro while I was in the water, but I'm almost possitive it did help me raise my skill while I was swimming. It turned off and on just like a normal attempt. But most of us monks in our 20s should have it mastered and capped already. I can't remember what level I was, but it was somewhere in the early 20s. I haven't had to work on sneak for a while now, so I might be mistaken, but Im almost sure of it. I do know it is possible to swim and bake and Instill Doubt... sneak Im almost certain of. In anycase, that was my attempt at hippin' someone on how to train as many skills as possible. Monks Kick Ass, sho nuff.

I put about 50 practice points into FD as soon as I got it... but just to help max it out and make it even more useful I made the following hotkey.
/attack
/do # (match number of FD in abilities/combat)
/sit off
/attack on
I would use this key during a fight and found it worked really well. You don't lose much, if any, attack time due the .5 seconds it takes to burn through the macro. You will actually kill some things while laying on the ground because /attack on will kick in while the annimation for standing up has not taken place yet.
Add a line for sneak or some other skill between the /attack off and on, or replace FD with another one if it is maxed.
*Note: When FD succeeds the mob you're attacking will start to walk away (unless grouped of course). I found that if you move around a little bit you can find a spot to pull to where the mob will just stand still when you FD. Pull to that spot over and over.

i did something like Mullzy did...
/doab (tiger claw)
/attack off
/doab (feign death)
/sit off
/attack on
i timed it to every other time tiger claw came up and it worked out right. of course i have flying kick now but i learned this about level 19. it got FD maxxed pretty quickly. now i just need the patience to train instill doubt up. skill is only in the mid 50's at level 43 and its totally useless for now. and we wont talk about my 2hb skill.. im so irresponsible

this is for those of you who may have let FD and ID fall behind. i figured up this one this morning
/doab (instill doubt)
/pause 70
/doab (feign death)
/sit off
/doab (sense heading)
the sense heading is there as a marker only. this way as soon as You think you are heading somewhere you can tap the hotkey again. Intimidate up to a whopping 63 now ... at level 43. Yea i'm a slacker i know

In my experience, whenever I tried to sneak while swimming it gave the message "You must be on dry land to sneak" or something very close to that.
I have found that it is very easy to get swimming up in almost any body of water with walls around it. Just find a corner of some type and swim into it with just enough of your head out of the water so the air meter doesnt come up. This way, you wont move along a wall because you are in a corner and you wont need air cuz your head is out. Once you think you are doing this correctly, switch to the first 3rd person view to make sure you are actually swimming (ive had it so my guy was actually stading on the wall a few times) and not jumping out every once in a while. If it is, just re-position yourself. So far my swimming is at 191 at level 30. Gets REALLY slow after 190.

The other guy was off a bit...
1-6 are under abilities, and 7-0 are under combat...
(Attack and Range attack are not used with /doability)
so, /doability 7
does the top left selected ability under combat
