View Full Version : Guide to Whistling Fists & Shackle Quests - Major Spoile
Updated 20 Feb 2002, 12:51pm, CST
Ok, as of the last patch, there has been some rather interesting changes with monks, namely, this mysterious "Whistling Fists" quest, that I believe is an alternate epic, focused on Iksar, however, Human monks can do it as well. I am picking this up from after you get the Shackle of Steel, since they have changed the shackle quests so Humans can complete them, but I will be repeating those quests soon enough.
Current information:
* Shackle of Rock -> Shackle of Tynnonium
* Whistling Fists
For humans interested in raising faction with Cabilis, I will not include my own faction quest info, rather, follow this link:

The full Quest:
I Shackle of Dust
Give your newbie note to Grand Master Glox. He gives you this shackle. You may like to put it in the bank untill level 7, incase you die, and it decays on your corpse.
If you don't have the note any more, are repeating your quest, or are a human, then you have two options:
1) Multiquest
Have someone make a newbie monk, and do the Shackle of Dust. You do the Shackle of Clay quest, as explained below, and then get the 2 bandit masks as per the Shackle of Stone. Newbie monk turns in Shackle of Dust, and afterwards you turn in the Shackle of Clay and 2 masks.
{B] 2[/b]) Pennance quest
You say, 'Hail, Master Niska'
Master Niska bows with elegance and grace. You can see her arms rippling with muscles. 'Greetings. We are the Swifttails. We are the harnessers of the elements. We are the tails of discipline. To achieve rebirth into our caste is a great honor indeed. We can be identified by our adornments. You should display that which we have given you to adorn your arms with pride. You do have your bracer, correct? '
You say, 'no'
Master Niska says ''You dare disgrace us?' She hisses at you. 'If you have truly lost the marking of our caste, you will need to take this note and speak to the Toilmaster immediately. Read it on the way and praise the will of Cazic-Thule.' '
Gives: a ragged book
NO DROP
Wt: 0.1
Text inside:
The will of Cazic-Thule is strong.
The route to Cazic-Thule is through strength of the Brood.
The Brood is the living instrument of Cazic-Thule.
Your lack of discipline is an assault on the well-being og the Brood.
You have shown weakness in your inability to fulfill your destiny as a member of the Brood.
You have defied the will of Cazic-Thule.
Your fate will be decided by the grace of Cazic-Thule. Please prepare yourself.
Your weakness warrents your destruction.
Only our belief in your ability to reclaim your place as a member of the Brood, a seed of Cazic-Thule, keeps you from that destruction at this time.
You will be allowed to pay a pennance for your defiance of the destiny that Cazic-Thule has chosen for you.
Please find the Toilmaster when you are prepared to begin that penance.
May Cazic-Thule find a use for your rechid flesh and allow you to continue on.
Ok, so in other words - you've been bad. You shouldn't have lost your shackle (or newbie note), so we are sending you on a really annoying quest.
The Toilmaster spawns and is usually at 820, -25, in East Cabilis, near the Soulbinder and the Bank, in some ruins. If he's not there, check the building next door.
You say, 'Hail, The Toilmaster'
The Toilmaster says 'Do not bother me unless you wish to join the chain gang. Now go away or I shall have my slaves chop you as they chop this granite! '
Give him the book.
The Toilmaster looks at the tome and speaks to you, scowling, 'Very well, broodling, I have a task for you. I should make you work at the feet of my froglok slaves, crushing granite, but the lore of the brood has a specific rite for this situation. Take this book and learn the will of Cazic-Thule. Read it and ask me any questions you may have before you start your penance. It would be a shame for you to fail at this task as well... though I wouldn't mind destroying you.' '
Gives: Rights of Exhoneration

Text inside:
"Understand...
The will of Cazic-Thule is through the strength of the Brood.
The Brood is the living instrument of Cazic-Thule.
You have disgraced the Brood.
The soil at the glorious feet of Cazic-Thule shall be fed with your ground bones and worthless flesh, lest you prove yourslef during the period of your penance.
The Rite of Exhoneration.
You will need several items to assist you in the completion of your penance.
Contact the Toilmaster and ask for the Hammer of Exhoneration.
Carry this tool with you. It will teach you discipline, patience, and focus.
It will strengthen your weak mind and weak will.
Use it to shatter the bones of those that might oppose the Brood. It will return you to the grace of Cazic-Thule.
The Toilmaster will also give you the bag that you will need to complete your penance.
You will need to ask him for it. Do not forget this step. Failure to follow directions is what brought you to this rite. Do not make the mistake of erring again.
Seek out the Mortition and ask for a mortar and pestle. You will need to use these two tools to grind the bone fragments that you retrieve from our enemies. Fill the mortar completely and then grind the bones into fine powder. You should praise the will of Cazic-Thule while you grind the bones.
Take the bone powder and place it into the Penance bag, and praise the unerring will of Cazic-Thule. As you fill the bag with bone powder, leave just enough room for one flask's worth of blood water. This will keep the bone powder together and withing the bag.
Know the will of Cazic-Thile and you will know the will of the Brood.
Once the bag is completely full, lock the hasp on the bag and return it and this tome to the representitive of your guild that sent you.
They will decide the sincerity and strength of your will.
Should you be allowed back into the mind of our Lord of Fear, you should praise the might of the Brood and the glorious will of Cazic-Thule."
You say, 'I need the hammer of exoneration'
The Toilmaster hands you a massive hammer and says, 'So, you can read. Good for you. Don't think that you're going to make an impression on me with that rubbish. Let's see if you can handle this hammer like you can that book, whelp.' '

Put in the following items:
A) Sabertooth Cub Canine NO DROP, Stackable, 0.2 Wt.
These drop in the Lake of Ill Omen, near Cabilis off of Sabertooth Cubs. They are usually around level 5, since these spawn about the same place where the Goblin Scouts do in Lake of Ill Omen, you can get both at the same time.
B) Goblin Scout Beads NO DROP, Slot: NECK, AC 1, 0.5 Wt.
These drop from low level Goblin Scouts that spawn just outside of Cabilis in both the Lake of Ill Omen, and Waslik's Woods. They should only be around level 4, so take a couple minutes, head to one of those zones, and kill youself a goblin scout.
C) Skipping Stone: Slot: RANGE, 1/35 Thrown weapon, Range 200, 0.5 Wt.
This tiny range weapon drops off Froglok Skippers, a fairly common spawn in the Swamp of No Hope, near Cabilis, I had them regularly spawning in an area you reach by following the road, and when it crosses the water, cross to the other side, they are most frequently around the pedistals in that area.
D) Large Scorpion Pincer, NO DROP, 1.0 Wt.
These drop off Large Scorpions, which are level 6ish. They are in the Field of Bone, I found them most frequently where the sand meets the grass on the ground, between the Warslik's Woods zone and Cabilis.

III Shackle of Stone
This quest also starts with Master Raska:
You say, 'what shackle of stone'
Master Raska says 'Interested in the shackle of stone are we? They are made for monks who have earned their first two shackles and are ready to climb up to the next rung. A monk who feels he is ready to wear the shackle of stone must first [perform the task of cleansing]. '
You say, 'I will perform the task of cleansing'
Master Raska says 'Go forth to the outer gates and seek out the Iksar bandits. They have refused to bow to the will of the empire and shall pay dearly for their traitorous ways. They often wear bandit masks. If you return with two bandit masks and the shackles of dust and clay then I shall reward you with the shackle of stone. '
The Iksar Bandits are in he Field of Bone, Pit area, right side as you come from Cabilis. You need 2 masks at this point, to continue. I would also strongly recommend you get the two halves of the torn note from these bandits as well, because you can turn them into Master Niska to get a flute, that is needed later when completing the Whistling Fists, explained below.
Turning in the masks and your two shackles results in:
Master Raska says 'You will get nothing until I hold two bandit masks and the shackles of dust and clay. '
Master Raska says 'You will get nothing until I hold two bandit masks and the shackles of dust and clay. '
Master Raska says 'You will get nothing until I hold two bandit masks and the shackles of dust and clay. '

IV Shackle of Rock
Note : You can start this quest whenever you like, but I found Feign Death was nessesary before I could finish it.
Talk to Master Niska in the Court of Pain about the Shackle of Rock, and she tells you that she will give you the shackle if you bring her back the fists of Talon Southpaw, one of the greatest, fastest, strongest, Iksar Monks who ever lived. You may want to buy the book about Tallon from the Court Chronicler if you have not already, and go ask the Bar keep in the Tink and Babble about him. Seems he was almost impossibly-fast with that left hand. Here's the catch ; he had two left hands, explaining his lightning speed. Time to get those fists.
Fist One
Dropped off a Sarnark Courier in the Lake of Ill Omen
If possible, get a ranger, or higher level Druid or Bard, to try and track him for you. He is around level 12 - 15, easy to kill, and spawns around the ruins near the Firiona Vie river in the Lake of Ill Omen.
Fist Two
You are not the first Monk to look for Talon's fists. Another one, a greater Master, has ended up in the Timorous Deep, after searching many years for the fist. The Iksar Master has the 2nd fist. He is on an island, near raptor island, on a mountain; approx location is 5000, 3000. He is called "an iksar master". his real name is Rinmark, and you will become very, very familiar with him as you progress through the shackle quests. Before he will hand the fist to to you, you must bring four items back to him, placed and combined in a bag he gives you. Don't worry about getting the bag yet, we'll do that later. The four items are:
A) Excavators Claws
This drops off Burynai Excavators in Kurn's Tower, and in the Pit. Excavators are fairly easy for their level. Around 16ish.
B) Intact Mandible
This drops of Skulking Brutling, in Warsilks Woods. Around level 12, easy kill. Drop is semi-rare though, it may take awhile.
C) Sparring Gloves
These drop off Goblin Pit Fighters, a semi- rare spawn in Warsilks Woods. Get this after the Mandible. Head to any set of Goblin ruins and kill everything that spawns (you may need some help for this) untill you get the Pit fighter.
D) Torn Sash
Ok, there is an easy way to do this part, and there is a hard way. I will have both listed.
First, the hard way:
These are semi-rare spawns in the sandy-section of South Ro, they are PH's for the AC. Here, find (you may need track again) a Young Ronin and kill them. They are slightly more powerful than a Derv, and you may need help. They are a semi-rare spawn, and wander around the desert part of the zone. Kill them and take their torn sash.
Second, the easy way:
Go to Oasis, camp the dervish camps there, "a young ronin" spawns at those camps, kill it, and take sash. This is easier, cause you don't need to hunt around to find them.
Fist Three
The third fist is held by the Skeleton that the Great Oowomp will summon if you give him five gold. The Great Oowomp is on the Ogre Island, where the boats stop in Timorous. Here is the catch though, the hand is only the thumb. The thumb is a container, in which you must place and combine, his fingers. His fingers, named 'A Withered Finger X', where X is a length, drop off the Fingered Skeleton in Kurns. I hope you hunted here and managed to pick some up. Camp the Fingered Skeleton untill you have all four fingers.
Note : If you have a high level enchanter friend, you can just get him to charm the Ogre and the skeleton. That makes it about 1000x times easier to do the quest, but not all of us have a high level enchanter friend, eh?
Now you have some choices. Take the boat back to Overthere, or, if you have balls, swim to the Firepo(r)t room, and take the Cabilis teleport home, to give in the fists and get your Shackle of Rock!
V Shackle of Copper
Quick synopsis - kill Kwinn the Outlander in Firona Vie, take head, plus two current shackles, turn into Master Niska to get Shackle of Copper.
VI Shackle of Bronze
This quest originates in Cabilis, but has more involvement with "an iksar master" in the Timorous Deep.
In order to initiate the quest, go to Master Niska (in Cabilis, located near Master Glox) and state that "I will be your personal courier." She will hand you a Tin Box which weighs 8 pounds, and request that you take it to Master Rinmark, who in fact identifies as "an iksar master." Master Rinmark is located on the chess-board island in the Timorous Deep. He stands meditating atop a mountain peak on the island (you should have no problem finding him as the island is quite small).
Once the Tin Box is handed in to "an iksar master" (Master Rinmark) the following reaction will be triggered:
"An Iksar master opens the box to reveal a variety of pebbles. How grand!! My pebbles!! Now I can continue with my rock garden!! Would you please [assist old Rinmark in completing this rock garden]?"
You say : "I will assist old Rinmark in completing his rock garden"
"An iksar master pours the pebbles from the box into his pocket and hands it to you. Take my box, Fill and combine within my box the following: a Radiant Medeorite, Frontier Fools Gold, Petrified Redwood, Rile's Sand Coin, Sulfur Stone, Fragment of Tektite, Plains Pebble, Jade Magma, Heart of Ice and an Unholy Coldstone. Return the Full Tin Box to me and I shall reward you with a Shackle of Bronze."
The components are easy. This will probably be one of the most tedious and boring quests you will ever do.
A) Radiant Meteorite
Foraged in the Burning Woods. Took me about 2 hours.
B) Frontier Fools Gold
There are indeed 2 different forageable gold nuggets. Our desired nugget is will identify as Frontier Fools Gold. The one we DON'T want and WILL NOT combine in the box is Genuine Gold Nugget.
C) Petrified Redwood
Two ways to get this - forage it in Warslik's Woods (stay kinda near Cabilis for it) or it is a random drop from the cactus-things in Overthere.
D) Rile's Sand Coin/
Some more foraging, stay in Timorous Deep and kill raptors or something, this one took me a long time.
E) Sulf
These drop from Drolvarg Scavengers. Scavengers can be found roaming the middle of the zone. Walk straight outwards once you zone in from Lake of Ill Omen. They're really known as "Scarlet Stones," but with the identify spell these are indeed Sulfur Stones.
F) Fragment of Tektite
Pick up 2 carnelian gems. Grab a friend to cast the invisibility spell on you. At the entrance to the evil outpost (coming in from overthere) you will see two gargoyles. Run into the tunnel with invisibility and at the other end of the tunnel will appear two more gargoyles, with one of having the name "Tektite." He wants a replacement for his eyes, and seeks two Carnelian gems. Run up behind him, feign, and hit sneak until it works. Get back up (DO NOT HAIL HIM) and hand him the two gems in seperate slots. You will receive a piece of "Tektite."
G) Plains Pebble
Again, more foraging. head to the karanas for this. I got mine in south karana. practiced safe fall and bandaging using krak windchaser, and the aviak tower. Good deal I guess.
H) Jade Magma
Kill burynai miners in Frontier Mountains. My first kill yielded a Jade Magma.
I) Heart of Ice
In Lake of Ill Omen, these drop from the undead "Ice bone skeletons" near the lake shore.
J) Unholy Coldstone
In permafrost caverns, a goblin priest will drop them. Priests are random common spawns deeper inside permafrost. I got mine in the Preacher room.
This quest is long, tedious, but well worth the reward, a Shackle of Bronze. AC and magic resistance in one bracer.
VII Shackle of Steel
Due to the last part of the quest, I'd suggest you be 50+ to do this quest by yourself or 45+ to do it with a group. I'm sure it can be done at lower levels, but it might be more trouble than it's worth at the moment.
Anyway, onto the quest. This one starts in Timorous Deep with Master Rinmark (the "iksar master" on chessboard island). If you finish his rock collection (for the previous Shackle), he will automatically begin the quest. This brings me to the prerequisites for the quest. You will need BOTH your Shackle of Copper and your Shackle of Bronze for this quest. If you don't have them, get them. Then approach Master RInmark and ask him "who student" or "where is the student"... one of those will give you a response and a "part of a large key." It is a two slot container
Ultimately, this container will need to be filled with "a copper key" and "a nickel key."
The Nickle Key
The Nickel Key is easy to get, it just takes time. If you mull around the third floor of Dalnir for a while, you'll come across "a goblin penkeeper" Swat 'im! He'll drop the key you need. I've seen him in two places on the third floor. If you take the southern branch of the four way hall after you drop into the third floor, you will hit a room with three pillars. This is where I killed him. Another place he's spawned is in the "crusader room" (see EQ Atlas for details). After getting your Nickel Key, toss it into your "part of a large key" and head to Droga.. /em shiver.
The Copper Key
Droga is not a fun place for ANYONE. I'd suggest you head down there with a few items first. Potions are the key to this portion of the quest. Before you step foot in Droga, be smart and equip yourself with two or three Invis potions (13pp give or take at the potion vendor in Cabilis) and a shrink potion (20pp give or take from your favorite Shammy). If you don't get these potions, you will probably die in Droga and you will probably have on heck of a CR ahead of yourself. There is one more element to this trip that is recommended. A porter.. druid or wizzy, it doesn't matter. It is highly preferable to be able to get out with a click of a button instead of running around aimlessly thru the halls with Ht'ing mosstroopers and backstabbing slinkers on your tail. The porter is optional, but after doing this all solo, I'd give my arm for one.
You will need a map too... head to the jail area of Droga. In the Inner Sanctum (as described by EQ Atlas), there are two ways into the jail. One is by keys and the other is by a pit. For this run, I'd suggest you fall down into the pit. MAKE SURE YOU ARE INVISSED BEFORE YOU FALL DOWN THE PIT.
Once you fall, you'll find yourself in a jail cell. If you face the door of the cell, to your right will be a secret passage (it looks like a wall, just walk through it) and on the other side, you will be in another cell with a busted down door. Also in this cell is the "goblin interrogator." He is your target. Look out for adds as you engage him... pin him to the wall and try not to let him run. There are goblins all over the place! Green to me at 51, he is a very nasty Necro-type who loves to slap DoTs and Nukes onto you. Word of warning. He has a damage shield!!! So be careful how you take him down, because his DS alone will bring you down a few bubbles if you use low delay weapons. I'd suggest you bring along your favorite 2hb and whack at him with that. You may have to FD and try him a few times before you can catch him without his DS up. Patience, Grasshopper...
Once you have him waxed, loot the "Copper Key" off of him and put it in the key container. Hit the "combine" button and viola. You have the key to unlock the shackles of the Iksar slave.
I saved the Droga part for last because now the rest of this quest is a cakewalk. It just so happens that the "student" that Rinmark was mumbling about is in a cell right here in Droga! Suck down a shrink potion now while you're at a safe spot and drink another invis potion. If you head out of the cell with the broken down door and turn left, you will see a cell across the jail from you. Duck and move in between the bars of that cell. In this cell, you should see some sort of Iksar. If you see "a crazed Iksar," just FD and wait for him to poof. If you see any other sort of Iksar, drop your invis, hail him, and ask him "Are you Veltar?"
If he doesn't respond with "An iksar slave's soiled face shines with a glint of hope. 'You know my name? Who has [sent] you to find me?'", do NOT hand him the key you have just combined. He isn't Veltar, and he will take your key and you will have to do it over again! If he responds as stated, then I'd suggest you finish the conversation with "Master Rinmark sent me." Let him talk some more and ask "Where is the coppernickel key?" He'll rant some more, but you're a step ahead of him. You have the coppernickel key in your hands. Now you can hand him the COMBINED key (make sure it's combined), the Shackle of Copper, and the Shackle of Bronze. He will then give you his Shackle of Steel and all you have to worry about is leaving.
From this point, if you have a porter, just evac out. If not, you can re-invis, duck in between the cell bars and leave Droga normally. That part is up to you... at least you'll have your Shackle of Steel on your corpse if the goblins get you .
The Reward for this Quest is: The Shackle of Steel-- Monk only... 9ac 5str 5sta 5sv magic. Not a bad piece of equipment for not having to do an uber raid!
NOTE: This is how I did it, as well as other monks. This method isn't guaranteed because you take shortcuts. However, I got my shackle doing just what I said. With the bugs in the game and the wonderful recognition of the NPC's, there's always the chance that it won't work. You'll just have to take that chance....
VIII Shackle of Tynnonium
This Shackle quest starts in Timorous Deep, with Master Rinmark, a.k.a. "an iksar master" (boy for a loner, he really is important, huh?
You say "what whistling fists?"
an Iksar Master says, "The Whistling Fists are rumored to be magical instruments of destruction which can only be wielded by monks. The founder, Supreme Master Tynn, was the only lizard to ever gaze upon the weapon. He only spoke of it to his student Marthor. Marthor rarely spoke of it and when he did it was usually after a few flagons of Trog Brew. That is why many consider it to be babble."
Buy 4 Trog Brews from the Tink n' Babble in East Cabilis.
Marthor is in West Cabilis, in the catacombs past the forbidden scribe, at loc neg 348, neg 116.
You say, "Hail Marthor".
Marthor hiccups and breathes drunken breath in your face saying, Leave me be, can't you see that I am meditating or something?
Give him the 4 Trog Brews, not stacked.
Marthor says "Ha! How did you know my favorite drink? Master Rinmark told you? That crazy old monk spends his days sitting on that mountain in Timorous Deep doesn't he? And they call me a drunkard! Anyhow, I bet he told you about the Whistling Fists. I have never seen them myself, and have only heard legend passed down by Master Tynn."
You say, "who is Master Tynn?"
Marthor says 'Supreme Master Tynn was the only one that has even seen the weapon. I do not know its origin. I tell you though, you would need to be as powerful as he was to be able to wield the weapon. Only an Iksar of the last rung would be able to use it, come back and show me you have earned your Tynnonium Shackle and I will discuss with you what I know.
You say, "What Tynnonium Shackle?"
Marthor says 'Veltar was one with the ways of Tynn. He did return to Cabilis, I know you have rescued him from his cell. He has traveled afar to clear his mind of his torture in the mines. He did not say where his travels would take him. You will have to find him once more and ask him about the Tynnonium Shackle he still wears. '
--
Veltar, the iksar you freed to get the shackle of steel, has been busy. He did not return to Cabilis like he claimed, rather, he went out, levelled about 30 times, and now is running amok in Dreadlands offing many innocents... (that may have been fixed). He is on the Swifttail's faction.
He is located on the far ruins, northeast of Karnor's Castle. He is on the roof, levitate is good at this point, I do not know if you can climb the walls, since I saw him trying to get back up after single-handedly wiping out all the groups along the eastern wall of Karnor's Castle.
You say, 'what tynnonium shackle'
Veltar says 'So it is the one who has freed me before! You seek the ways of Tynn, I see. You must be on the true path of the monk to accomplish what is needed. The path will test the three virtues most important to becoming a true vessel for Cazic Thule's power.'
You say, 'what three virtues'
Veltar says, 'The three virtues are [patience], [agility], and [peace of mind]. Patience is important in knowing when to strike your opponent, too soon and you may be crushed, too late and your opportunity may pass. Agility is very important in showing your ability to avoid blows sent your way, and then returning what was sent to you. Without striking quickly you are no monk at all. Peace of mind will allow you to concentrate on the situation you are in. With it you can control your actions and make decisive strikes at critical times. Without peace of mind you may attack out of rage and will surely fall for your mind is clouded. You must complete these three [trials] to earn the shackle of the Grandmaster.'
You say, 'what trial of patience'
Veltar says 'Patience shall be tested by the one whom has the greatest patience. Seek Master Rinmark, and ask him of his trial.'
You say, 'what trial of agility'
Veltar says 'To show agility you must be tested by the most swift of us. Grandmaster Glox will provide your test for this. Ask him of the trial of agility,'
You say, 'what trial of peace of mind'
Veltar says 'To show peace of mind you must decipher a tome found in the library of Kaesora. An undead tome keeper will wait for you to come, ask him of the trial of peace of mind. The tome will tell you what you shall seek. Do with the tome the same as you would with the item you seek. Show you have clarity of mind in solving this.'
---
So, this quest is in 3 parts. As of the last zone-patch, it is completable. Originally, you could technically gank him for the shackle, but the faction hit will send anyone Ally or worse faction with swifttails to KoS in one kill (that's one HELLuva faction hit). After they fixed Dreadlands, he doesn't drop the shackle any more, so no short-cuts...
Trial of Patience
For this trial, you must once again, go to good ol' Rinmark, the iksar master in Timorous Deep who apparently thinks he is too good for Cabilis, and likes to make us monks swim the ocean a lot. So, head back out to him, but I would almost suggest bringing at least a healer with ya. to be safe. have healer stay away from mountain, since rinmark is agro, and pretty nasty to encounter...
You say, 'what about the trial of patience'
an Iksar master says 'So your time has finally come to be tested for the final rung. To show your patience you shall spar with me. When you have gained the insight and strategy to strike you will know when. Strike me too soon and you will perish, too late and I will be gone. Come at me when the time is right. Let us begin. '
he then respawns as "Grand Master Rinmark". Note: you do not attack this one. This one is higher level that the "an iksar master" version of him, and he will definitely wipe you out. Plus, this is a test of patience, so just wait on it. Eventually, this message will pop up:
Grand Master Rinmark seems to lose a small amount of concentration.
then respawns again as "Master Rinmark". As with the previous version, you leave this one be... Patience is a virtue, after all, and that is what this test is all about. Eventually, this message will pop up:
Master Rinmark stares off into the horizon, lost in his thoughts. '
...and again, he respawns, this time to "Rinmark". This is the one to attack he is light blue to 55, dark blue to 54, highly magic resistant, immune to fear, and seems to have more hp's than his con would suggest, hits for up to 100's. Hurry to attack him, he will despawn after a minute, and the test will have to be restarted. When you attack him, this message appears:
Rinmark says 'Good, your sense of timing is correct. Now begin! Show me that your training has not been wasted. '
If you do not attack in time, this message appears:
Rinmark says 'Your time to strike has come and gone. You have failed in this trial. Come back when you are more prepared. '
And then he despawns, and respawns as "an iksar master".
Kill Rinmark, and loot the "Mark of Patience".
---
Trial of Agility
For this trial, you must go to Cabilis, and talk to Grand Master Glox, the guy who ignores your hails all the time.
You say, 'Hail, Grand Master Glox'
Grand Master Glox shows no reaction to your greeting. '
You say, 'what trial of agility?'
Grand Master Glox says 'I knew you were not the whiff others claimed you to be, are you sure you are ready to be tested in agility? '
You say, 'i am ready'
At this point, Grand Master Glox casts a spell, teleports you to a locked room under the shaman/shadowknight/beastlord guild, where you see a "Master Glox" sitting on the ground, waiting for you. Grand Master Glox tells you what is to be done as you teleport away...
Grand Master Glox says 'We shall spar then, I hope you are as prepared as you think you are. '
To start the fight, simply hail him. Supposedly is easier to kill than Rinmark.
You say, 'Hail, Master Glox'
Master Glox says 'That took you long enough. Well then, are you ready to prove your agility to me? '
Kill him, then loot the "Mark of Agility". the Potion will teleport you to the Field of Bone (IE out of that room).
---
Trial of Peace of Mind
For this trial, you must go to Kaesora, found inside the Field of Bone. On the top floor of the library, there is a new mob that spawns, called "a tome keeper". He has a PH that spawns, called "an Iksar spectre" that is KoS.
You say, 'Hail, a tome keeper'
a tome keeper shows awareness of you, but ignores you completely. '
You say, 'what trial of peace of mind'
a tome keeper begins to speak to you without movement of his rotted mouth, you realize his words are pouring into your mind. 'You seek peace of mind, and may you have it. First though, your Shackle of Steel. One Shackle for one tome.' '
You give him the shackle of steel. Note - he doesn't return this. Is why I will be repeating my shackle quests again (I like my shackle of steel *snf*)
a tome keeper drops a tattered tome at your feet and says nothing more. You pick it up and place it among your things.
This is where the quest gets divergant. There are several different tomes. each has a different subquest. you get one, and it is random which one it is.... fun, no? each has you get something, and then you turn that, and the tome, to the person it outlines. Here are the known tome message texts (and known solutions to some):
A) Dim White Tome
"Made from the mud, but fired to use. The Frogloks use it to bring what is filtered. Within the swamp town you will find and return to the Court of Pain to the one who would have you earn your sparring armor."
Get item from the froglok town in the Swamp of No Hope it is in a barrel of water, loc -1262, -1411, 28; return to Master Bain.
B) Dark Black Tome
"What once was forged from the fire of dragons is now cooled by the fall of rain. To be found in the sea of flames, and taken to the Prime Heirophant of Cazic Thule"
You get "skyfire pumice" it is a ground spawn in Skyfire at loc 200, 660, -190 (on top of a pillar, in the lake), and then take it to the Prime Heirophant.
C) Faded White Tome
"Created of Iron to replace what is no longer there. How it was lost is an intresteing tail. Return this mechanization to the one who once called you a whiff."
To start this, you must go to Firona Vie, and see Kwinn the Outlander again.
You say, 'Hail, Kwinn the Outlander'
Kwinn the Outlander says 'Hail, adventurer! Kwinn's the name. Hunting is my game. I have been all over this continent. Seen many things and found [odd trinkets]. I have no quarrel with any race. I judge a person or critter by their actions. Heck, my best friend is a troll !! '
You say, 'what odd trinkets'
Kwinn the Outlander says 'Blast!! I found some strange thingamajigs!! Most of it I toss or sell to vendors and crazy sages. I am on my way to sell this [iron tail] to a tinkerer. '
You say, 'what iron tail'
Kwinn the Outlander says 'Found the thing washed up on the shore in Timorous Deep. Looks like a metal lizardman tail. It is all rusted and covered with barnacles. Probably can't get much for it, but I'll try. Why do you ask? Are you looking to [trade for the mechanical thing]? '
You say, 'I will trade for the mechanical thing'
Kwinn the Outlander takes out an extra pack. 'Thought you might be interested. I don't want to take a loss and I only trade for things I am hunting, so here!! Inside this pack you need to combine the following items; a sabertooth tiger mane, a pair of pygmy brute choppers, a lime plume and a war bone fist. Return the full sack to me and the tail is yours.' '
I forgot the stats of the bag, but it's 4-slot, I think medium capacity, worthless bag.
1) Sabertooth Tiger Mane
Drops from sabertooth tigers, found in the Lake Of Ill Omen, walking around between the windmill and waterside.
2) Intact Pygmy Brute Choppers
This was a bit of a challenge. This drops from "a pygmy skulking brute", that is a random spawn that can shop up *anywhere* in Warslik's Woods. I spent about 5 hours on this spawn, to get it to show up.... But with my elete force of trackers positioned to monitor the whole zone, and a couple people out just butchering everything that moved, it eventually spawned. Appears to be just as rare as "a skulking brutling" that also spawns there, and is needed for the Shackle of Rock quest...
3) A Lime Plume
This drops from "stoneglint cockatrice" which is found in the eastern part of The Overthere, near where the zone for Warslik's Woods is at. When I went there, there was a whopping 2 of them, and one was being killed, but the other, after a few choice blows, yeilded me my plume... These are RARE too.
4) A Skeleton Fist
This drops from "war boned skeleton" in Lake of Ill Omen, usually along the grassy area and hills that are between the Frontier Mountains zone and the waterside. Yes, it identifies as "A Warboned Fist"
Returning the bag to Kwinn the Outlander res

Hate to suggest this (cause it will make you all cringe) ... but in the manner of the Robe upgrade ... perhaps this is the Fists upgrade ...
Which means the original fists Cazic is referring to could possibly be, eeep, BUBBLES ... Celestial Fists themselves.
Have fun trying to wrap your brains around that one.

Actually,
Thin ancient flute is obtained from Master Raska.
However, it makes little sence that this is the flute. Given and taken from an undead? Sounds like there is a new mob about and we are camping those pipes again.

I don't think the Flute of Zan-Fi is the flute that was gotten from the note. That would be too easy. I believe one of the texts states that the flute is given and gotten from an undead. To get the RotWF you gave Brother Baitlin(sp?) two pipes that identified as Zan and Fi. I would suggest you head out to DL and see what's up... the brother may have repaired the broken pipes.

I know I missed something in the above message - about killing the trakanasaur.
also, I am re-doing the shackle quests from the start right now, including the annoying pennance quest. I will update it with the information about them as I go through it.
Why am I doing this? cause I want both the shackle of steel and of tynnonium

The fists shall be born again for you. Take with you the satchel covered with flayed skin. Fill it with four items of power. The original fists, which no longer have their power. The Flute of Zan Fi, given and taken from an undead brother. Also place in the satchel the remains of Grandmaster Tynn, bones forever strong, and finally the remains of Zan Fi, still resonating with power. Seek once again Lord Cazic Thule, return to him the two flayed tomes and satchel full, and the instruments of pain shall be bestowed unto you.
The Flute of Zan Fi, given and taken from an undead brother
If the two pipes we turned in to the undead broter are indeed the flute, wouldnt this mean you are to combine the robe of the whistling fist in the satchel? Couldnt be.. must be something else... right? RIGHT???

a couple of corrections/additions to your guide.
When you turn in your shackle of tynn to Gandan you get the shackle back.
In Droga you only the the bone key, bone necklace and stone key. The bronze is to open the cell that they are in. A nice thing to have there is shrink potions. It allows you to run through the bars.
You can recieve quest text from Cazic while indifferent/sneaking.
and since this is a spoiler anyway.
Brother Balatin says 'This is not the flute that I seek. In fact if you have this, that must mean that you are a monk of Cazic-Thule. I can not permit you to find the weapon I know that you seek! '

WOW reading that thing about zan fi challanging cazic thule gave me the chills! and he even put up a good fight. At least now we can say that humans can first!
Verant sure likes to screw humans over and I dont know why, all that faction humans have to do now is crazy. I hope verant makes these new quests lead up to the Celestial Fists and have one being the iksar way and the other the human way and prevent the others from doing it. That would be neat.

Some clarification about the flute part. Brother balatin needs to be charmed for the turn in. We did it with one high level group with no problems. I would say this encounter and the TT encounter are about the same in terms of difficulty.

Sloe you posted that you have completed as far as the Flute goes? You Used your Level 5 Flute right? The very same flute that the two torn notes turned in to "the grand master" (Glox)? Or Niska?

Quickly read over it all, very nicely done. Quick question though, can you skip all the previous shackles, and just get the Shackle of T by completing the three quests? I didnt see any part about handing in the shackle of Steel.
As for him not dropping it anymore, why not? Why is this any different from Zephyl/Qwinn?
I need to get my faction work done here, as the bugger hates me with a passion, and chased me around while I rtied to get near him...

You have to turn your shackle of steel in at the library of Kaesora.
Brother Qwinn and Zephyl do not drop the robe any more. I have watched for the last 3 weeks on Xegony, like a hawk *cough*showeq*cough* and there was no robe, they drop the newbie tunic humans get if they turn in their note, that's all I have seen. either the robe drops at a worse rathe than raster spawns, or it simply does not drop any more.

Excellent Job on this guide. However, you might wish to remove the paragraph about the Night Warder you copied from my post on the safehouse, as it has no bearing that I know of on the quest in its current incarnation - simply to avoid confusion.

Ryot, you say Verant wants to screw humans with all this faction work? Are you high? Welcome to the realm of me and my scaly brothers. We've had to worry about faction right from the giddyup. And don't tell me about mules; the point is for the character to do the work to prove he's worthy of the reward.
As an aside, since everyone's talking about humans wearing the shackles, has anyone checked to see if the foraged pieces for the shackle of bronze are no longer 'no drop'? 'Cause if some of the pieces are, most notably the Rile's Sand Coin, the shackle will HAVE to be multiquested.

Foraged a Riles Sand Coin yesterday while waiting on Rinmark. It was not No Drop.

Bodi- You need the Shackle of Steel to turn into the tome keeper in KAesora to get the book. The difference with Veltar was from reports it only took about 3 58+'s to gank as opposed to the 8-9+ people of the same level for Zephyl. And all forage pieces are droppable, with no mq'ing needed for any of the shackles now.

Ok, got Rinmark and the Mark of Patience, gave up my most prized Shackle of Steel and got the tome that needs the tail.... good, cause I need to add in the info for that quest anyway.. while in kaesora, got the paper needed for the stupendous tome, and half of my HS key, kinda one-stop shopping...
Of course, was nice that all 3 mobs were spawned at the same time.

XlorepDarkHelm/Rolthenjr:
ShowEQ WILL NOT reliably tell you if Brother Z/Q has the RoTLC, because the list of ID codes that SEQ uses to identify items was never completed.
That is why other player characters (even high level ones) all seem to be wearing 'fine plate' or 'leather' or some other common item. SEQ will tell you if a particular mob has a weapon (although probably not the correct weapon), but that wouldn't help here.
SEQ also won't correctly list multiple items that all fit in the same slot. For example, if the mob is carrying both a robe and a tunic, ShowEQ may only display the first item (the one the mob appears to be wearing). If I recall correctly, another player that killed Z/Q reported that he dropped both a tunic and robe at the same time, even though he appeared to be wearing only a training tunic.
Bottom line: the only way to know if Z or Q has it for sure is to gank him and loot the corpse. While it may indeed be true that the robe no longer drops (and I'm not sure either way), don't trust SEQ to do this for you.
Disclaimer: I would never violate Verant's EULA by using software like SEQ, but I did recently check out the SEQ message boards. Messages there state that item IDs have been a long-standing issue and will likely continue to be until something like the database from Magelo is integrated into SEQ.

YEa, friend is who used it, and just told me the same thing, no big loss.... and no, I don't like to violate EULAs, even if they violate what my personal belief in software is....

Ok Im having heart burn with the ground spawn in KC. My Maps show no way to get in to the Right Court Yard wall. Maybe Im missing a map. Anyhow I happened to fall in to VS room bottom floor had to duel and kill myself to get out (sigh) anyhow If anyone could post some info further in the Greyed Tome and the worn Metal ring, I could use the help.

In regards to Greyed Tome and ground spawn in KC:
loc of the bag is: n150 n300 its was spawned directly underneath a Cursed Hand when i found it. I went in thru the underwater tunnel in the basement, when u surface turn around and go up towards the RCY door. As you go up the little stairway towards the door, look up and behind you and you will see the bag on the ground. That is your ring.

P.S. i was buffed like mad by a 60shaman before i FD flopped my way into the basement to grab this, but i doubt this is necessary even for someone under 45. Just get a SoW and if youre going in thru the moat an Enduring Breath can be handy if you need to FD in the water.

Excellent compilation to the overall picture. I as well assume this will lead to Celestial Fists and fear the outcome when a monk who has celestial fists hands in the combined container to CT.
Something that I can contribute and have 100% verified.

Something I'd like is the loc of all the ground spawns, so I can stick them in the guide. I forget how many I had, and would like to know the rest of them.
I have updated the guide once again, this time with the mili-subquest for Kwinn the Outlander to get the mechanical tail, and also to help clarify the position of the ground spawn for one of the tomes (which was explained in an above post).

A small point... in your section on the foraged items for one of the shackles, Riles sand coin isn't given a letter of its own in the enumeration.
-Ish (ishiro@loadfix.intranets.com)

I can't give you a loc on the Chokidai scales for the Light Black Tome (I was too panicked running around Chardok at lvl 44 to think to do that), but I can give a description of where it is.
It spawns at the fort that is in between the zone in and zone out. If you are looking at the fort from the front, it spawns on the balcony that is on the left. If you get up on the slope that is opposite the fort you should be able to see the bag on the ground.
Gimmel Greatheart
Vicar of Fell Omen

Face the front of the fort, then walk down towards the door, take the left side stairs up, then FD.
There's a bag there on that tiny platform that spawns the Sargeant.

I got the two halves of the note from the bandits and handed them to the Grand Master.. he ate them. Who do I hand the notes to?
Also.. does anyone have the text from the notes prior to this quest addition? I have them now and they talk about a journey to the lost valley searching for the whistling fists signed by "Gandan Tailfist Tynonium Master of the Swifttail Caste".

Ya give the notes to Raska...
ask him about Gandan Tailfist.. he should respond with stuff about the notes. ;)

you hand them in to riska, who gives you the first shackle quests. The text on the notes sounds the same, though I haven't read them in the past couple days to check. They've always mentioned something about a hidden or lost valley and were signed by gandan.

Hehe I knoew that it didn't look right.... I'll get a separate enumeration for the rile's sand coin.... oh well.
I almost have all the items I need for shackles of clay -> bronze.... will update all the quest info on those soon.

so u have compiled every thing but not turned in the bag to cazic?

I have compiled this, from other posts, and previous shackle guides. I myself have not gotten that far yet, and am using my own guide to help me.
I have the Shackle of Tynnonium. (Faded White Tome version)
I have my Seb key, and 1/2 of the HS key.
I have one piece for the Stupendous Tome (from Kaesora - got everything I needd there all in one go)
I have my 2 notes for the flute.
That is *all* I have at this point. hehe
I am a little behind the power curve, but I spent about 2 days working on this guide, digging through obscure messages and whatnot, plus, I am helping a friend get his shackle quests done as well, while getting my replacement shackle of steel, as I want both shackles.
I originally made this to help me as a guide to get through the quests, and decided to share it. As I've said before in the guide, I don't claim I wrote all that, I just organized it a bit. I have since added my own material as I get through sections, but it really was made by the efforts of several people who post to MonklyBuisness, and made the shackle quest guides.

[Mon Feb 18 11:07:42 2002] You say, 'I am interested'
[Mon Feb 18 11:07:42 2002] Annaelia Wylassi says 'Are you? I didn't take you for a necromancer. I tried to reanimate these remains but due to the vibration it was too unstable and collapsed. I have given up trying to animate them. I would need more supplies if I were to try again. I am too busy with other research to care though. If you are so interested you could go fetch the supplies for me. I suspect the bone structure is of a human, so I would need a vial of human blood. A jade inlaid coffin would be needed to perform the ritual in. Also a vial of clear mana to bind the bones with strong magic, and an essence emerald to complete the ritual. '

[Mon Feb 18 11:09:12 2002] Annaelia Wylassi says 'I will now try the reanimation.' Streams of mana surround the bones but nothing happens. Annaelia looks annoyed. 'Worthless bones! Why do they hum like this? Grah, I don't care I have too much to study. You want them? Take them!' '

I went to sebilis today as well. Found the indifferent fallen iksar monk in the crypt. Upon hailing, he asked for the final shackle. When given, he repops as yellow to a 55, agro, and drops the lightly glowing fists.
This is the final element to complete the pack.
Shackle is lost. I know people have gotten this by simply killing him. dont expect this to work in the near future.
Ah well. Tynn shackle was nice while I had it, for the whole 24 hours.

why would there be uprising if this is better then our epic? granted one side can get it easier then the other, but thats the same as human monks have over a year extra tiem to lvl then iksars did.
im just happy were getting something new(and capable of being done by everybody, not just uber guilds who can raid ntov) and has a fun quest involved. hopefully the humans will actualy follow along with how the quests leads them intead of just learning kill that loot this go there give here.

There would be an uprising because there are a lot of human monks who CAN'T complete the quest because their faction caps at indifferent, and you need amiable to do parts of it. Thus, if there's a weapon out there that's better than the epic yet completely impossible for a lot of monks to get no matter how much work they do, some people are going to be pissed.

37 Vah Shir Beastlord

One thing to note - Verant's been leaking that they are working on improving the epics...
Here's an idea - Whistling Fists + Celestial Fists + More Questing = new epic.
Why would they do that? Cause think of how long you will be playing to get all that done. Time = Money.
Meanwhile, we get 2 nice items, Whistling Fists and Celestial Fists. one bent more towards the Iksar.
Would be like if they took the constantly referenced Greenmist, and made that any-race-useable. Then saying "oh, the shadowknight epic, and greenmist, with the capabilities of (fill in velious or luclin faction group here) can be combined to make an even more powerful weapon, but first, we need these ingredients...."
Who doesn't see that happening? Who thinks that the Celestial Fists and Whistling Fists might just be something leading to an even more powerful item?
Equating the Whistling Fists to the Robe of the Whistling Fists would be foolish, till the item has been found. Rather than comparing the two quests, let's wait and see the final outcome. I *hope* it is a weapon and not gloves. Hell, would be cool if it was 2 h2h weapons.... with good stats on them. I mean, look at the Vah Shir Beastlord quests.... one quest line gives them 3 items - cloak, and 2 claws. Which funny enough, my ogre beastlord has done a lot of those quests too. He's also in the middle of getting the faction for Cabilis, to do the iksar quests, cause I know Iksar quests are cool.

How the hell is that the same thing at all? Barely a handfull of monks who played pre-kunark are still around on each server. On Xegony, it'd be a stretch for me to find 10 active pre-kunark monks still playing their monks. So, that's hardly some kind of un-balancing issue. And considering it's only taken people two months to get their Vah Shir to level 60, two years should be enough that you can stop griping about the extra time humans have had.
The only advantage Human Monks have left is faction. And uh... that faction hasn't meant jack all in Velious, and made little mark in Luclin.
And now, as a Quellian Monk, I have to spend the next three weeks farming 8000+ bone chips? It isn't about the shackles really, either... it's that we're blocked from participating in the discovery of the best new quest around. This quest will be history on the spoiler page before more than one or two monks have a chance to raise their faction high enough. They put a whole seperate side of quests for Iksar to obtain the RoLC and whatnot... why can't they do the same for Humans in return?
I mean, Iksars never have to go visit Puab Closk, do they? ;p (Even though FP faction is sickeningly easy to raise, it'd be a pain in the butt.)

I mean, Iksars never have to go visit Puab Closk, do they? ;p (Even though FP faction is sickeningly easy to raise, it'd be a pain in the butt.)
Been there, done that. Next!

Just for completeness of this guide... you need to edit the Shackle of Stone section about the notes, perhaps say that people should collect them for later and also state who they need to be handed to for the flute.
-Ish (ishiro@loadfix.intranets.com)

another spoiler tip. You can slaughter "a crazed Iksar" in Droga until Veltar pops. The crazed gives good a Cabilis faction hit. Otherwise you have to wait an entire game day for him to despawn/respawn.

I am a pre-kunark monk, I will see how this plays out before I invest any time in faction.
BTW, while in Howling stones the other nite, we tracked the tailfist guy to the bottom of the trap rug in north wing of howling stones.
Of course he aggoed on me and my group after dropping in, was a fair fight but we killed him anyway. He resisted all charm attempts, but ench didnt have the highest charm up. Didnt drop anything. Factions were -legions of cabilis and swifttails.
I havent checked my LoC faction, but I was max ally, so I dunno what kind of hit that was tho. My swifttails faction was at default for human agnostic, presumably kos already.

no matter how it turns out, this quest is for iksars. why is it so superior to the rotwf which both iksar and human can do with the same degree of difficulty.
whats in this for us humans?

I know the feeling, they really like the corny red glowy thingys, don't they?
Whistling Fists seem to be like a quested item that appears to look just like all those Fist of *whatever* on Luclin, monk only tho.
And for those that were wondering, I have seen CF and RotWF being combined before, the effects stack... Unless that monk was blowing smoke, but without a chanter effect, he was very fast, faster than a monk with just a CF and CoF on them. If so, this means you can have the warsong effect without the BP juggling.

ok this is just my 2 cents
but assuming both Iskar and humans do the Epic the way it is supose to. no short cuts. no buying headbans and sashs. would Iskar need to do a shit load of Faction work to do this in the beginning??
now Human monks are doing nothing but bitching and moaning about having to do faction work that US Iskar had to do so long ago to get our epics.
if you dont like it, STFU and carry on playing your game WITHOUT the WF weapon, or just simply shut your hole and do the faction work that we had to do to obtain the eppic and complete the quest. good luck with CT factions tho, lol.
this IS a very decent weapon. i WILL complete this quest even tho i have my epic and better. but GD, get over the damn faction work and complete the quest and PROVE that you are indeed a worthy monk who even tho you are not of the race it was intended for, still earned it!!
thats all

i heard your shackle of steel and Tynn will gone when you handed them to the npc? is it true?
so most monks are going to redo the shackles quest again??

Edited by: DivinaeMonk at: 2/21/02 11:15:33 pm
Read them carefully. Shackle of steel is lost when you hand in to tome keeper in kaesora for a random tome, and shackle of Tynn is lost when you hand in to a fallen monk in seb.
Redoing the quest isn't that hard, but you got to have patience. And yes, the Tynn shackle is worth to re-quest unless you got 2 bracer of benevolence.

Has a human monk, Agnostic, completed this quest? I'm wondering if/when Verant fixes the Quellious issues - whether any human monk (willing to do the faction work) will be able to complete this quest.

Quote:
Kromdul Bracelet drops in the 'cave' in FM, where the giants are at. Get that and take to Niska

I just wanted to remark that this is for the light grey tome and the guide is unclear on this. It is a ground spawn in the mine in FM. I picked it up last night. I haven't turned it in yet and I am a little nervous. I turn the tome in with the kromdek bracer (i think that is what it is called) to niska? Who else has had the light grey tome? The riddle doesn't seem to quite fit this item.

Quote:
Large and powerful but with little wit. He stumbles about with no place to sit. Laying on the ground he soon falls asleep, you will go into the mine all the way deep. A giant bracelet as heavy as stone, you will take to the court of pain to give to her alone.

The bracer weighs 0.0. And who is "He". We assume "Her" is Niska cause she is the one female quest giver in the Court of Pain.
Just wondering if someone has done the light grey tome and if the guide is right.

Presumably "He" is a big dumb garden variety FM giant in the "mine" who dropped his "Bracelet"

the courier spawns in the room you mention, and also spawns on the other side of the courtyard, he is in the building to the left with 4 spawns in it, he will be the one furthest in the back, i too have 2 of the scrolls, the scrolls from mistmoore and the scroll from kaesora, once the scrolls and keys from droga are attained it should only take a day to finish this quest if cazic is up, this last CoM scroll is gonna kill me, been camping it 12+ hours so far, Good luck

Like the subject...
What do you hand in? Satchel of Cazic Thule (after combine) and two tombs?
Or Two tombs + Satchel without combine (4 quest stuffs in it).
Or just the Satchel of Cazic Thule (after combine)?

Just FYI, turn the 3 marks into the Veltar in Dreadlands; not Droga.

You hand in the combined satchel + the two tomes to get the whistling fists.
I know the guide has some unclear parts, I am working on it, but am also juggling some rather recent things, that are drawing my attention from it.

I don't get it. I went down into the catacombs (or basement if you prefer) and tried to follow the description given below. I surfaced, then turned around... couldn't see any door to RCY or anywhere else. Ran around in basement walking up all stairs I found and turning around.... never seeing any bag or other stuff anywhere. Not sure whether I'm dim or if this description needs some rephrasing.... help plz. I hate being without any shackle at all.
"Loc of the bag is: -150, -300 its was spawned directly underneath a Cursed Hand when i found it. I went in thru the underwater tunnel in the basement, when you surface turn around and go up towards the RCY door. As you go up the little stairway towards the door, look up and behind you and you will see the bag on the ground. That is the Ring of the Construct (ground spawn). Bring it and the tome back to Master Niska in the Court of Pain."

Where is the undead merchant that sells the crusader coffin?

Undead Merchant = Mortician (outside of the Cabilis Necro guild)
This needs to be changed in the guide most definitely. The Mortician sells the coffin for about 67pp with whatever faction I've got (think max). Also sells rubbing alcohol for shawl quests, and some other coffin type crap.

Currently working on getting the notes needed for making the tome, got some questions about these:
Firstly, are they called Research Notes X?
If they are (and they seem to drop in the correct zones), I'd say the numbering of them is wrong, I looted 2 and 3 from random skels around the library in Kaesora (not from failed crypt raider), and looted 4 and 6 so far from random skels/golems around the stables in CoM (courier didn't pop while I was there).
Am I hunting up the wrong notes here? Judging by the guide I should keep hunting in CoM to get a third note, then head back to Kaesora to get note 1, then MM for 2 more notes - leaving me with a total of 8 notes?
Confused and tired, maybe I should sleep on this and check back later

"Note : If you have a high level enchanter friend, you can just get him to charm the Ogre and the skeleton. That makes it about 1000x times easier to do the quest, but not all of us have a high level enchanter friend, eh?"
I'm unclear what charming either mob will do... and how to proceed afterwards. Can you elaborate? Just trying to be completely clear before I drag an enc out there...
thanks

I was puzzled by that statement too, Wendolyn. The only thing I can think of is that Iksar monks might be KOS to the Great Oowomp, meaning they would have to sneak/FD behind him to spawn the skeleton. Charming Oowomp would be "easier" in that case (for the Monk anyway, not the Enchanter :P ).
I'm an agnostic human, and Oowomp was not aggro to me. I just talked to the skeleton after spawning it (I believe the key starting phrase was "what fists of Talon Southpaw"), and followed the dialog tree, after which he handed me the "thumb" (box).

I was indifferent to Oowomp, and that was without sneak on. NOt sure why I am indiff, but I was.
On the Shackle of Tynnonium, can a 46 monk do this quest? I will be buffed, and will either have a DS potion on me, or I will have my druid friend ds me before the fight. Just not sure if it will last long enough. Also, will have all buffs up, regen, and SLN.
What do you think, can I do it?

Two Questions, Dark Black Tome: What Prime Heirophant?
I tried giving Prime Heirophat Vek in the Shaman Guild the Pumice with no response, and running through SF at lvl 45 isnt my idea of a walk in the park. Question number two is, can a 45 monk complete this quest or is it level locked to 46 plus?

I just wanted to clear up a little confusion concerning this post.
The flute of Zan Fi is obtained by:
1) collecting the 2 halfs of the torn note in FoB
2) Give the notes to Master Raska in the guild, he then gives you a flute.
3)Have a chanter charm Bro. Balatain in DL and give him the flute Master Raska gave you.
Be ready!! He respawns a LVL 61 , hits for 228 max, can be slowed and enrages at the end.
58 tank recomended, and a few healers depending on thier lvl.
Balatain drops the Flute needed for the WF upon death.
Good Luck my brothers!!

Am I missing something? From just my reading of the initial post, it seems that you could do the resonant bone chips quest from the gnome necro and then turn in to CT. What kind of faction do you need for her and Thule? Is doing all the shackles quests just for the faction needed to do the turn ins to the gnome and Cazic? Are there any other ways? It seems I am missing something obvious.

UWMaster,
I agree. Yes, the end of the guide is somewhat confusing. I went through the ENTIRE guide and found the following:
Satchel of Played Skin
Flayed Tome Book
Faintly Glowing Fist
The Flute of Zan Fi from Balatin
the remains of Tynn
Resonant Bone Chips
Those 6 items are remaining just before going to talk with CT for the second time. I went from start of the quest, listed the items and kept moving through it subtracting items and adding as I recevied them or turned them in. Those 6 are still remaining. I see nothing about what to give CT and why I have so many items left. I mean, it looks as if I hand him the bones and poof, I get the WF. But that would negate the entire first portion of the quest.
Can anyone clarify this?
Other than that, great spoiler.

Kanzis, you need to give Prime Hierophant Vek the pumice and the tome, not just the pumice. It isn't level locked.
Mealadar and UWMaster, look at the text of the book CT gives you:

Quote:

The fists shall be born again for you. Take with you the satchel covered with flayed skin. Fill it with four items of power. The original fists, which no longer have their power. The Flute of Zan Fi, given and taken from an undead brother. Also place in the satchel the remains of Grandmaster Tynn, bones forever strong, and finally the remains of Zan Fi, still resonating with power. Seek once again Lord Cazic Thule, return to him the two flayed tomes and satchel full, and the instruments of pain shall be bestowed unto you.

This means you give ol mudball:
1. Flayed Skin Tome from Gandan Tailfist
2. Flayed Tome from Cazic Thule
3. Satchel of Flayed Skin from Gandan Tailfist in which you combined:
-Faintly Glowing Fist (original fists)
-The Flute of Zan Fi
-The remains of Grand Master Tynn
-Resonant Bone Chips (remains of Zan Fi)

Haven't looked through the entire thing so not sure if mentioned already (delete if it has) but you dont have to do the pennece quest to get that initial shackle of dust. Clay can be done by itself; collect your 2 bandit masks for Stone, have a friend or yourself make a lvl 1 monk and have him get the Dust one, MQ stone with the newbie monk turning in the Dust one first and they you with Clay and the 2 masks. Sorry if reads funny - is early and am still not quite awake.

Quick question about Zhakou in TT, since I just finished my stupendous tome: does he spawn in the same spot/area as the crusader or are we going to have to run around to find him? I can bring a ranger if needed, just don't want for someone else to kill him thinking it's a named cycle spawn while I dink around waiting for him to spawn nearby.

Zhaoku will spawn just outside the archway/aqueduct area heading to Seb.
Basically if you have a solid enough group there with a tracker (like I did) by the time you GET to them, it'll be dead already. lol
Have them set up in the giant archway and track when you hand in, he'll be close by them.

Please, as things are found incomplete, or inaccurate with the guide, if they can be posted here, I'll update. Been trying to do them in batches (cause I'm also in the middle of getting the celestial fists/whistling fists/grandmaster/AA points/etc, etc) and can't update every little change as they come out . I know for one, knowing more information as to the whereabouts of Kwinn the Outlander might prove useful (I had to go see him 3 times, 2 for first shackle, once for next series [so far], and every time I never wrote down the information)
Out of curiousity, a guild member copied my guide into MS Word, and it came out to 20 pages... it's long, but it's thorough. That is why I put the short and simple section at the top.
My mind also boggles as to why this hasn't been tacked. I guess I just don't rate as high as Kurlee, as I had this completed long before the other guide, and it tends to be more filled out/complete. Maybe it's just "too long" or "too complete", who knows.
I'm also curious, what's the spawn times for the Crusader in TT, and the "fallen monk" in Sebilis...

Annaelia Wylassi for the turn in of the coffin, blood, essence emerald, and clear mana took me a while to find. She is at -2416, 2796, 4 which is in the back of the room that the portal to fear is in.
As for Kwinn I've hunting him down 3 times now, I just killed everything that wandered onto the hill where the giants are and he came wandering up eventually. What was interested was a short time after I killed him he can wandering up the hill again so I am thinking that he does just have a PH that you have to find. You'll have the gates with a goblin on each side. Between them is a tent with a tent directly on the other side of it. To the right of that is the building where PitFighter Dob spawns. To the left is a single tent with only one spawn in it. That single spawn is where the only place in the fort where he can seemingly spawn.

I have seen the goblin pit fighter in various locations around the zone, even outside of the goblin fort.. so he is truly another totally random spawn. Just kill everything in the fort and surrounding ruins and you should get him.

True he can spawn anywhere in the zone, but in the main goblin fort that is the only place I've seen him spawn. I believe about 7 times now in that exact same spot.

Did 9 hours cleaning fort and surroundings, even got myself a druid to track.
Goblin pit fighter never showed up as for the skulkling brute one spawned beneath the map *sighs* (not even tunnels to dalnir).
Getting back there later tonight.

This is an incredible guide, while long, it is very thorough. I may ask that if you could add the key phrase to the Dancing Skeleton interaction, it would be most helpful.
Also, the red stone that we need for the bronze quest - you dont state what zone the Drovalg Scavangers are in. I was thinking Dreadlands because of the way the guide is written, turns out its in Firiona Vie (this part edited to reflect correct zone information). Just pick one up while your looking for Kwin's head.
An additional note regarding the Whistling Fists:
When you are in City of Mist (CoM) getting your research notes, they say Research Notes - page X
There are many scrolls (scriers scroll, as an example) that are for the shamman epic, you dont need these. Just fyi, and yes Im one of those anal people when it comes to detail, providing this in case somebody else is like me. I do have a question about the spectral courier, does the notes he drop also say Research Notes page X on them, or is it the illegible scroll?
So far the biggest pain has been the fingers. I completed my tynn shackle after about a week or so of playing. I will most deffinetly be doing this over (note, if there are things you can do 2x while in the zone, do them to cut down your time). I foraged for my petrified wood while hunting down the brutling.
I had alot of lucky breaks while doing this quest. I cant thank the nice people I met along the way enough for their help.
A special thanks to Ssaitharis (sp?) on the luclin server. I bumped into him when going to see the guy in Kaesora. I got the tome for the mechanical tail, and was dreading it, he had the mechanical tail in the bank and hooked me up with it.
I hope he faired well with his tome.
That was extremely nice.
An additional thanks goes to Sallas, lvl 34 druid (probably wont read this, but I want to thank him publicly none the less) for handing me 5 foraged gold nuggets free of charge. That was extremely helpful as I wont have to go back and forage these again.
I cant thank the author enough for this wonderful guide. I do not have all the time in the world to play, and having a guide to help along the way was extremely helpful.
Im off to work on the whistling fists now, wish me luck!

You are 100% correct it is Firiona Vie, I must not have finished my first cup of coffee when I posted that, as I re-read my post and said to myself "Now why in the hell did you type Lake of Ill Omen?"
I will edit my post to reflect the correct location.

Has anyone been able to obtain the notes off of the iksar bandits in FoB lately? I killed 6 so far, seemed to spawn in twos and one would drop a mask and the other would drop nothing. I am hunting in the pit area and would appreciate any info before I waste more time camping these. I would think out of 6 spawns I would see at least one of the two notes.

Notes on the bandits are just a rare drop. Had to kill about 10 bandits to get one note. Killed another 3 or so and got the other. Finding bandits though can be the hard part... Slaughtered the pit for about 40 minutes to see 13 or so bandits...

hmm i killed everything i could find in the pit for 4 hours and seen like 4 bandits ;/ then passing through killed 2 more that were up. Seemed like it was 2 spawns every two hours guess i had bad luck.

Either you had really bad luck or I had really good luck. I saw 4 bandits in a span of literally about 2 minutes, and 2 of those 4 dropped different halves of the note.

Hi..
I am working on the quest and find a useful bit of info missing.
Numbers needed to kill things. I dont need the lvl 60 monk who has a lvl 60 shammy buddy and is in full ToV/Primal answering, as that is not the circle I run in on my server.
Im a 51 monk, and I belong to a large guild, however I have been having to go outside of guild for help. In cases like these, I need to know what numbers, how hard they hit etc.
This is the information I have so far
Brother Ballatin - Flute turn in
Forces:
2 Groups (10 people)
60 Cleric
57 enchanter (did the charm and the slow)
51 shammy
50 druid
53 mage
Melee
52 warrior
50 warrior
51 SK
53 rogue
51 monk (me)
Mage pet
Shammy wound up taking most of the hits.
Ballatin is a lvl 61 mob when re respawns. He was yellow to the Cleric and red to the enchanter (took multiple casts of slow to get it to stick).
He does hit hard-ish (170 - 250 range) but average hit was a bit softer.
A Fallen Iksar Master -
Sebilis - room opposite of the ICG doorway.. 2 mobs in there and the fallen iksar monk. the npc wont aggro.
When he respawns he is lvl 57 and was hitting me for 170ish until the tank go aggro.
I did this with one group, but I got really lucky and got my guilds main tank to do the fight for me.
Group Make up
60 Warrior
57 Warrior
58 Rogue
58 Cleric
57 Enchanter
51 Monk (me)
As you can see getting this group to help me out was a lucky move. We dispatched him with no problems, but the fight was long.
I was tempted to have this same group help me on Zauku (sp?) however I did not want to risk losing my tome because I was being impatient, Cazic isnt due until Friday on my server anyways.
Anybody have any info on the spawned dino? What forces did you gather for that fight. What valuable information can you add for the guys who arent in UBER_GUILD_01 about this fight. I mean no disrepect towards my monkly brothers who are in the uber guilds, I wish I was. However, I am not and I dont want to do that part of the quest over again because Im no prepared for the fight.
Thank you all, and safe travels.

We are not uber first off
We did Zhakou with a 60 Pally tanking, 60 cleric, 60 monk (me), 60 Ranger, 60 druid, 58 Bard. Was overkill. I would say a mid 50s, 2 group setup with proper classes would do fine. Secret is to get a good tank (SK, Pally or War). Dropped a nice 60 chanter spell to boot.

Trying to confirm key drops in Droga...
Is it one from the penkeeper and one from the penmaster at the spawn by the fire on the left side of the jail, and one from the penkeeper and one from the penmaster that spawn in the jail cell you drop down into??
I have all but the stone key, and I'm getting the impression that that key drops from the penmaster in the jail cell... since I haven't seen that spawn yet. Can anyone confirm or deny?
Thanks

You need 3 keys total.
Stone Key from the penmaster (I think) he spawns in the jail cell inside the jail area.. I found that the stone key is his rarer drop.
You will also need 2 key items from the penkeeper. He spawns by the fire outside the jail cell. One item is a necklace thingy, but it is they key to the first door if memory servers correct. The 2nd item has a key, and I for the life of me cant remember the name of the key. Give these 3 keys to the iksar slave that is wearing the yellow chain armor. I found that he spawns after 8pm game time. He is in the other spot in the cell (2 spots, one has a crazed iksar slave and the Veltar ph - this is in the back of the room, the other iksar slave is on the right hand side as you face the cell - make sure he is wearing the yellow chain armor).
Giving this iksar slave the 3 key pieces will get you the needle, which you need to use in conjunction with your 6 illegible scroll pages to make the stupendous tome.

I did Balatin with myself tanking (55monk), 52 monk, 52 necro, and 58 cleric. Was simple.
Zhaoku was done with myself (55monk), 58 war, 58 cler, 55 war, 52 monk, 59 bard, 57 cler. Simple.
Now I'm trying to get fallen monk, never been in crypt group so I really don't know the spawns and stuff. If you are entering the crypt, you go down to 3 spawn of ghouls, turn left, then turn right, and go through door. is it the room on your right, where if you face right you can see the big room with the steps? I'm a n00b to crypt :P

Well just to share my crappy experience here, I got up past the shackle of tynn, was working on quest directly from CT, well, I got invited to some crypt group in seb, figured, "Hey, while I'm there, might as well knock this part out" So got down there, killed the ph for hours, finally got the fallen monk, STUPIDLY did the quest, handed in my shackle, got the orginal fists, now I have to start all over from the first shackle :) Because I didn't go get the book / satchel from Gandan in HS. Guys just as a warning, don't make this mistake k thx ~
And I didn't take the time to read all this stuff, so if this was said, ah well. The flute you need drops off Balatin, you have to trigger the lvl 61 balatin by giving him the flute you get from Raska by giving him the 2 notes off bandits. Easy fight, Me (60 monk) 60 cleric, 59 shaman, did him with no problems, he's a wuss.

In response to your question, Tensor, yes as you enter the crypt proper (thru the locked door and around to the left hugging the right wall and going thru the door at the end of this passage way) the fallen monk will spawn in the room on your right. This is opposite of the stairs down into the room with the ICG's. There are 3 spawns in this room, with the fallen monk popping in the middle location. Good luck.

is it confirmed that the bronze key isnt necessary to turn in to the slave in droga? you say it's not needed, but then below you say to turn in all 4 keys. i have all keys but the bronze one, but i am reluctant to turn them in for fear that he'll ask for the bronze key and eat my other keys =) please confirm.

they're lore, so you cant have 2 of the same kind. if the courier drops the same one twice, for example, you'll get the lore item message. if you have 6 scrolls and the needle you're ready for the combine.

Just seen this, great thread. I stopped questing my monks shackles at around 30 after I couldn't seen to find Kwinn in FV, spotted this quest and managed to get the Tynn shackle so far.
Can I just get confirmation that you do lose the Shackle of Tynnonium on handin to the fallen iksar and you don't get it back? (i.e. the only way to get the Tynn shackle would be to re-do all the shackle quests, and quest it back).

The guide says "A Vial of Human Blood" (lore) drops from the Bandits in NK. I just want to clarify - there are no Bandits in NK, only Raiders.
I've been slaying them wholesale for HOURS and nothing drops but the stackable "Human Blood" (which Annaelia Wylassi won't accept).
Am I stupid for killing the wrong mobs, or just unlucky in the drop rate? Can someone please confirm that these are the correct mobs, and how long it took for their Vial to drop?
Thanks!

I just did Rin and Glox and figured I'd log and post how things went for me. I didn't notice timing and all that for Rinmark so I spawned him and then waited for depop and respawn since I had some time. Here's what happened for me.
AC 1054, ATK 1108, 2158 HPS, STR 185, IFS, SCHW Level 55, Iksar... of course. Required no Discs and wasn't even close. Lost maybe a bub on Rin and less on Glox.
Rinmark requires 35-36 minutes to respawn. Checked twice. Definately a slight variation between the two. Don't know if it's a bit variable or not. Was only 1 minute difference for me and I was careful timing.
After triggering Rinmark, he'll change from Grandmaster Rinmark to Master Rinmark in about 3.5 minutes. Another 3.5 minutes later, he'll turn into your target, Rinmark.

Nice guide, I am workin my way thru the shackles now. So far am on the shackle of rock. I do have a question tho... on CT himself, (yeah, i plan on tryin for the fist), is he automatically KOS to everybody? (humans i mean ) or if you havn't hunted in his home land will he be moderatly nice to you? My assumption is that he will slap me silly the moment he see's my face, but i can always hope.
And for other human monks doing the quests... It took me about 3.2k bone chips to get non KOS to monks and crusaders (was already non-kos to troopers from killin gobbies and sarnaks), then took 3 times of doing the pennance quest (now that is a bothersome quest), and then it was off to the races to finish all the other shackles. (btw, i am agnostic).
Peace,

Someone please confirm this? I havent done the turn in yet but i dont want to try until i find out if the common "human blood" (magic) works. I would hate to have to make another essense emerald if she rejected my turn in.
Btw I searched Alhakazam and "human blood" is the only kind on record. There was no "a vial of human blood" (lore).

Yes Regular Human Blood is the ticket. I just finished that part. and am waiting on CT to pop to do hand ins.

Been in War's Woods two days now. Got my sparring gloves yesterday, but this "skulking bruteling" hasn't been spotted once. Is he a pygmy skulking bruteling or just a bruteling?
Guildmate told me it was just a skulking bruteling, but in the two days I've been there, there hasn't been one "skulking bruteling" on track... Gah!

It's a Skulking Brutling. Semi rare spawn, semi rare drop. There are some guides in the guides section to spawning him though.

Cool, I need to go dig around in there, then. I had a level 50 ranger helping me track him. For some reason, it always led the ranger to the same exact loc every time, then it would knock the bruteling off track.
I didn't understand it and neither did he. In any case; I've given up on this for the meantime. Back to the experience grind. Little over two days blown on that bruteling. Sigh!

I've just finished all of my questing for this as a 53 agnostic human monk and just waiting on the three fights. Here some hints I think could help:
Collecting bone chips: Kurns. Clear the middle tower floor by aggroing EVERY skeleton and then dragging into a corner and slaughter them. (Watch out for newbies so don't do this on the main floor) Loot them all, destroying the no drop items and then go to the top floor. Repeat. Go to the basement and do the same. Becareful down at the bottom though if there are a lot of skeletons up. at 53, I pulled about 55 skeletons including the fingered and they pecked at me till i was down to a bub of health. Try to stick to 20 or 30 depending on your level. Loot all the corpses and go back to the tower. Save your cash you loot and auction it off for bone chips. With this technique, I was able to loot about 4 stacks each run. In an hour, you could have about 700-1000 bone chips depending on how quickly you can slaughter the lot. with auctioning, you can figure another 3 to 5 stacks per hour, depending on the other people in the zone.
When heading into Kaesora either for your Tynn Shackle or for the Stupendous Tome, as you zone in, go left, open the door and fall down the pit. You can avoid the spiders all together and come right behind the library. Saw the Failed Crypt Raider right there in the back.
The illegible scrolls was fairly easy, but long. The courier was by far the longest camp (Bring a guaze press or lots of bandages). He spawned in the long house and the left house when facing the actual stables. Mistmoore was easy, just keep your resists up and use a 2hb weapon as most of the mobs have damage shields. Soloed this at 53 with resists in the 80s.
Did Howling Stones solo. Go west and then north after you fall off the ledge as you zone in. With invis and invis vs undead, you could just walk in with no problems. I used my thurg gate potion in the hall just outside Gandan's room afterwards and got out easy.
Droga? Droga sucks. Take a small group with you even in your 50s. Green death is very possible here and a small group will let you slaughter the area quickly. Yes, you only need the Bone key, Bone Necklace, and Stone key. As has been stated, bring and Ant legs potion (Shrink).

For those of you that are wondering, this isn't that hard for an Iksar Monk to do both the RotWF and then to do the WF Quests. I've done the RotWF and am only lacking the Pipe's from KC and Chardok to complete. The faction isn't all that hard to get, just camp the Orc's in WC for the Freeport faction and devestate BlackBurrow for your Qeynos faction. Trust me, it can be done, i've done it personally. Only take's about a week for each place if ya kill everyone of them that move's. Also for those that were wanting to know what number's to use for most of these fight's. I've done most of them at lvl 54 or 55 with just 1 group, or less than a full group with the highest person being our lvl 60 Enchanter and our lvl 59 Cleric, myself and a 52 Beastlord. These fight's are not that hard, and no, we are not Uber Geared. Granted, we have above avg gear on some of these toon's, but we are far from being well equiped. All it take's is some research and some dedication.
BTW, this is probably one of the best guide's I've seen for the Shackle Quest's to date, and I've been looking at most of them since the release of Kunark. You've done an outstanding job on this one brother, i must admit.
For any question's that I can help with, just make a lvl 1 Monk and send me a /tell if ya need the help with one of these quest's. I'll try to answer your questions as best I can.

Were exacly does thee Sarnak hide drop in Dalnir for the Dark Grey Tome. I cleared out that whole area... The Laboratory, the Dining Room. and them 4 bedrooms right before them kly... Is that the right spot in one of the 4 bedrooms? I play on FV were we have TLC and I got a few TLC messges. If I am fighting in the right spot then perhaps that sarnak hide is TLC and I need to get a low lv group to go in with me.

Ok I am getting ready for the last three fights, and am not overly concerned with them. What does concern me is fd flopping my way through PoF. Been there once, and was not a pleasant memory. It seems like most say fd flop and wait in the NE area near some tree. (Guess I will see it when I get there) What do you all think is the best route to take? West, North, East? Straight across the open terrain? Tx in advance

And while we're asking questions, i'd like a formal final answer on this one.
Does the guy who you turn you Shackle of Tynn into give it back or does he keep it? In other words, do I have to do the shackle quests twice to get WF and Tynn or only once? I've got my Tynn shackle now and would like to just work on WF, but i'm NOT going wtihout my shackle of Tynn for longer than it takes to make a run to DL and do turnin to Veltar again..

However, after spending six straight hours in Firiona Vie, I find myself at a dead end again. I decided to play it smart, I got the intact brute choppers, tiger mane, lime plume, and skeleton fist and decided to knock out the mechanical tail part right before killing him and taking his head. However; I can't seem to find Kwinn anywhere.
I was told by two monks to stay near the giant spawn, close to the Swamp zoneline. Eastern side of the zone. I was also warned to kill off the frogloks seeing as how Kwinn doesn't like them and will end up picking a fight he can't win. Is there any determined way of spawning Kwinn? I had trackers constantly tracking the zone the entire time. I did, however, get Red Eye Jack to pop three times.

Yes, you do lose the shackle of tynn.
I killed everything i could near the "muddy hill" by the giant camp, and Kwinn spawned wihtin 2 Hours. His spawn point is not actually on muddy hill, it's closer to the giant fort, up the hill he immediately starts walking downhill towards "muddy hill" though.

moving thru the plane of fear...
Camo or invis for zone in and FD immediately. wait until you have space to pop up and run to the west wall. FD again to check around for aggro mobs. Spiders see thru invis for sure, not sure about some of the other mobs. you can either /q out to clear any agggro or make the mad dash for the NW corner near the fire ring.
Run accross the North wall until you get parallel with the obelisk that is on the high hill. there is another obelisk next to the zone wall. between these two pillars there is an open area on a small hill. Cazic paths to that open area several times while wandering around. So does everythign else so you have to keep an eye out in external camera mode. wait until he comes near and do the hand in. be patient though.
you will want to /q out while on the north wall before going into that open area to clear any aggro you may have picked up on the way there.
Patience, lots of patience. took me 3 hours of being FD in the open area to get a clean chance at Cazic with nothing around to aggro me

I kill the Courier 16 times drops illegible scroll every time, can pick it up cause its LORE - is this the same scroll this many times??

I've done Shackle of Tynnonium a couple of times, and also collected most items needed for Whistling Fists. Here's some tips and insights:
Fingers from Kurn:
Frustrating when you keep getting lore fingers. So I trashed all mobs from entrance to basement, and sneaked in a level 1 mule. Now I could easily loot lore fingers and save myself time when doing it a second time.
Kwinn the Outlander
Now he was a real pain. I eventually found out he spawn somewhere just south of giant camp up on hill. Killing all roamers around here made things easier. Red Eye Jack, and Halfling Swashbuckler popped in this area too, they might be PHs. If you collect all items needed for Kwinn's Quest first it can save you a lot of time if you get the 'fun' tome. Pull Kwinn away from giant camp towards SOHN zone to avoid frogs adding on him. Complete Kwinn's quest, bow, and kill.
Shackle of Rock
Sarnak Courier could take hours to spawn, but I found info about some placeholders. Like Sarnak Cat, Goblin Brawler, Greater Skeleton, etc. Killing theese you might get him to spawn faster. Since I was lev 55 at the time, I tried this with a twist: Aggroed every 'common' spawn roaming grassy area between lake and mill, and killing any of the possible PHs. Then I could press F8 and target mobs ahead of me, while half of the zone was following me behind..
Shackle of Bronze
Most gems can be found in bazaar, only some are lore / nodrop. Remember there are two versions of 'Frontier Fools Gold', the one you need is unsellable. Luckily, this is the one you usually found on bazaar traders, trying to sell it when vendors rejected them.
Shackle of Steel
Shrink is a must, let's you slip through jail doors easily. Do not try to pull Veltar out from his prison with shurikens, if goblins spawn they will attack and kill him, they obviously hate him more than you. On a side note, the slave next to him (Argest or his PH) .. guards would heal and buff instead.. Don't go cheap on invis potions, it's not fun when trying your way out and your last invis starts to fade..
Intact Pygmy Brute Choppers
Yep, the one needed for Kwinn's quest, don't try this alone, your mental stability be at stake trying to track this down.. so bring a tracker friend and autofollow. I did, and now it was suddenly very easy, jumping from brute to brute
Shackle of Tynnonium
If you get the 'Faded White Tome', ain't you happy that you got the mechanical iksar quest first time you met Kwinn?
Flute of Zan Fi
After killing Brother Balatin in DL, he dropped two flutes. You might want to have a monk friend closeby to loot the second flute, such a waste to let it rot.
And this is as far as I have come. Wonder if Zhaoku (TT) and Fallen Iksar Master (Seb) will drop two of each too.. oh, and so Mr CT in fear. As I'm a Quellious monk, he's not going to like me. Hopefully he will not turn around when I do this part, or his harmtouch alone would probably fry me into a crisp :P
Final note, ALL quests so far involving Whistling Fists, indifferent faction is all you need. And all foraged items are tradeable as well.

This worked nicely for me...
Before I went to Droga to get my Shackle of Steel, I fought Master Glox for the Mark of Agility BUT, instead of using the FoB potion of escape that you will loot off of Glox, camp thru the door. Took about two or three times of sitting facing away from locked door and camping to end up outside. However, and this is quite important, you will end up in the basement of the Shaman guild and when you go up the ladders to leave, be sure to just jump off as soon as you are at the top of the tower. DO NOT walk across the balcony up there or try to go back out the front door... you will die. There is a librarian of some sort inside on Necro faction and he will aggro on you, which will then cause the Arch Duke to join in and you will be quite dead within a split second. Trust me... it was not fun.
Anyway, now you have your FoB gate potion which places you right at the entrance to Kaesora... very handy after you turn in your items to the Iksar Slave (Veltar) in Droga... be sure the Crazed Iksar is not about to pop and click your potion (30 second cast time so make sure you aren't near any aggro). You will then have your Shackle of Steel and can run right into the library of Kaesora to give it to the Tome Keeper.
It was an easy way out of Droga and saved me a little travel time too. Even better.... it's free

How big is this post going to get? It goes on forever.
Me

I went to Fear when zone was fairly empty and before an upcoming patch. Logging in next day after patch and zone if fully popped. Waiting for a while and I see an ugly creature in the horizon... Hail, Cazic Thule.
I studied his pathings for a few hours, and I finally found a good spot. LOC p1250 n200 on a hill north of Fire ring. CT strolled straight over me from time to time, sometimes had to wait 30-40min for him to come back. After a few hours no roamers close and I got book. One unlucky feign and he smashed me into pieces. FD floppy my way back, /q a few times. Good thing that close to hill is virtually no roamers, so could easy drag corpse and loot up. Back to same hill, and a few hours later I got a new chance. This time I got my Whistling Fists
I know I was crazy because I never used a single invis potion, and I went there without a gate potion too. Figured maybe some guild would come raid CT after serverup, and I was right. Joined them killing zone and Mr CT, not having to worry how to get out

Some people had trouble judging trading range with CT cuz of his size. Well here's a tip for you. Try give him one of the items while FDd and you'll see either:
You are too far away from Cazic Thule to trade.
Cazic_Thule00 tells you 'I'm busy right now.'
If you open trade window and FD, trade window stays open and you can finish trade safely.
It can be tricky looting your corpse safely in Fear if many roamers, so here's a trick. When you loot a corpse while FD'd it will break feign, but you can immediately FD again keeping loot window open. Now you can safely loot your corpse.

Do I need to kill him 3 times? more? does he drop all 3 of the pages at the same time? what are they called?
Also, i have read that the other 2 scrolls can also be found dropping in CoM... what are they called? do they really drop there?
Ok, so it was more than one question ... thanks in advance for the help.

There are 2 spawn points for courier, one in East Stables and one in West Stables. The spawns in West Stables are generally easier to kill than the ones in East Stables.
To get to Stables area from zone in, you cross the enterance bridge, go through the gate and hang a left into Courtyard area. There will be a passage heading South on your right. Enter the passage and you are now between the East and West Stables.
As you enter West stables area there will be a building on your left and on your right... building to the left has the courier spawn... farthest spawn away from enterance door.
As you enter the East Stables you will have rooms to the North and South of you, each room has 2 mobs and they occasionally aggro through the doors. The Courier spawns in the Northern room.
Scrolls: You want illegible scrolls, yes they are lore and you need 3 of them. Pick up every one that drops, if it doesn't let you pick it up you have that particular one already. They are different scrolls with the same name, sooner or later you will get all you need.
Got all my scrolls while XP soloing West stables area in high 40's and very low 50's... did not know what the hell they were for, and destroyed them during a bank clearing sometime in mid 50's... lucky me, got to recamp them. Got 2 from courier spawn in West Stables and 1 from spawn in East Stables...
Need to kill courier at least 3 times, slim chance of getting the 3 scrolls in 3 drops, because of duplicates... never know though, may get lucky. Again, attempt to loot each illegible scroll drop, do not be discouraged because all have same name.

Question: What is the thing I need of of the brute in WW?

Two comments and a question:
First, about the Iksar Bandits in Field of Bone, I found them to spawn most often and regularly at night next to the dragon skeleton in the middle of the field. In the day time, they were all but extinct. Almost all of them had the headbands.
Second, re: the Sarnak Courier, this thing spawned literally right on top of me as I was journeying through the Lake of Ill Omen for the first time and it even dropped the fist. I was in Loio for a total of 30 minutes, in and out, that's how quick it happened. I remember the Courier spawning between the Falls and the large structure near the lake but I don't remember anything else. Oh yea, don't Mend yourself near the lake. Those Sarnaks swim and will come out of the water to attack you. I barely escaped.
Third: I do have a question about the Great Oompa. Can a level 19 Iksar just go into Timurous Deep to talk to Oompa without getting killed? I just want to get the bag from his dancing skeleton and not fight anything. Then I can get the quest items with the help of my friends. Let me know if anyone has soloed into this area with this mission in mind. Yours in ki. Kilrasis.

You need intact brutling chompers from 'a skulking brutling' for Rinmark. Found him between West Cabilis and the 'Bandit Lake' both times in southern part of zone... bring a tracker... life is too short to be fumbling around hoping to get lucky in that zone... visibility sucks.
If you are 'fortunate' enough to get the Mech Iksar Tail subquest from Kwinn you will need the drop off a 'pygmy skulking brute'. Find him around the OT zone area.

I have been following this debate for awhile. I have also used another list of items to complete the WF quest.
I would like to know if you need an Essence Emerald when you turn in the human blood, vial of clear mana and the Jade inlaid coffin to Annaelia to receive the Resonant Bone Chips.
One Guide says that you need the following:

Human Blood
Jade Inlaid Coffin
Vial of Clear Mana

While this guide says that you turn in:

But does not mention the Remains of Tyn that you get from Dino in TT. Which one is it? Please help. PS What the hell is an Essence Emerald anyways?

Yes, you need the Essence Emerald.
Human Blood
Jade Inlaid Coffin
Vial of Clear Mana
Essence Emerald
Essense Emerald (Also called a Soulstone, at least on my server) is created by a Necromancer casting Sacrifice (Lvl 51 spell) on a PC. PC must be 46+, and gets a choice of whether to accept the Sacrifice or not. If he accepts, an Essence Emerald is created and the PC takes the equivalent of an unrezzed death's loss in XP. An Emerald is used as a reagent for the spell.
This is the same stone that is consumed by Convergence (Necro rez spell), Infusion (EE consumed for mana) and Trucidation (Lifetap).
Watch the bazaar, folks whore out ebayed characters XP for EE's all the time. Our server is currently glutted with the market being about 150pp per sac.
