View Full Version : Pawbuster spawn nerfed?
OK, I'm not sure what to make of this. I have read all of the board's messages and didn't think that the Paw spawns was that rare (i.e. Raster). The most common time spent seems to be 3 hours or so. I have been trying in the evenings to camp him but only had a couple of hours at a time and didn't really have that much luck. So.......
Yesterday I dedicated my day to trashing the Pawbuster. I started about 8a or so - took about 30mins to fight into and break the spawn. Our group moved into the room and started the rounds. By noon everyone had left me (58 Monk) and my cleric bot (54) alone to handle the room. Before they left we spread the spawns out and I was able to do the room just fine. At 10:30p (14+ hours of played time), I logged in frustration with having my Pipe in hand.
Am I just unlucky or has anyone else noticed that the Paw seems more rare?

Just unlucky, keep at it.
Spawn timer in KC is what, 22 mins? That's just about 38 spawns in your 14 hours, assuming you kept it cleared.
PB has a single spawn point and is a rare.
If he's 5% chance, that's 1 in 20 spawns on average - you are not guaranteed to see him by the 20th spawn (or even the 40th).
If he's 2% chance, it drops to 1 in 50 spawns average.
Get the picture?

Yeah all the monky mobs are streaky, something to do with sticky numbers and statistics. Just keep at it friend. =)

In my experience of camping the WL room-and so you know, I've done it a lot-every single Pawbuster I've seen has come directly after a Warlord spawn. I've gotten two KC pipes for myself (I have CFs and RotWF) and seen a fair number of other people get their pipes.
I've talked to some other monks on Tarew Marr, too, and all of them that remember getting their pipe have had the Buster spawn right after a Warlord.
So when you see that Warlord spawn third from the left, start thinking "Buster, Buster, Buster...."

Just as a point of reference, a friend of mine that used to play (I think she did the epic in 2000 or so, maybe 2001) spent WEEKS in KC not seeing a pawbuster. She finally got lucky and someone took pity on her and sent her a tell when one was up when she wasn't there.
It's all luck. And no, its not nerfed.

We did hand/wl a few times trying to get my pipe.
Being on a still kinda new server It was easy to convince several guildmembers to come start a mini raid one day. Promises of drops and supple armbands for casters helped close the deal.
Well with 2+ groups there inside the warlord room everything went down so fast. SO people were getting bored , Raid leader told me to start pulling after 2nd room spawn to keep everyone attentive. Im halfway down in sewers when I see. "mezzing a Drovlarg Pawbuster" I did a U turn and ran back.. we only had 2 warlords spawn and when paw did pop warlord wasnt on that cycle.
</p>
He does not neccessarily spawn after a Warlord. I was extremely lucky once and got him on the very next spawn after killing the PH... which was a regular dog. It is totally random, I have also spent hours upon hours down there and seen no Pawbuster.

bah I did karnors for 2 months for that blasted pipe. The key is this DONT CAMP IN THE HANDS ROOM. The spawn you want is in the WL room. Best thing is to camp right down there. When you camp hands, unless your group is really good youre not going to be able to camp both rooms consistantly in a timely maner. Your going to lose spawns. How many times do you camp in hands and you clear hands and jail and cleric/whoever says "oom need to med" or someone has to go, and your stuck finding another person. So mobs just sit there untouched in the warlord room.

I have spent several hours there up to yesterday.
Prob. around 30 total hours trying to get it.
I've seen tons of warlords btw....
Monks tell me they went and got it in 10 minutes....
so it's either nerfed or im the unluckiest guy ever <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/ohwell.gif ALT=":">

Its not nerfed just unlucky i was in there about 2 weeks ago with me at 56 and my bot clr(65) in about 3 hours i had seen him 3 times was just there for exper one roted because no other monk in zone <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/frown.gif ALT=":(">

from my experience, pawbuster is slightly more common than targin.
</p>
I was there one day for 12 hours straight to get him, and various other groups in Hands/WL when I was just leveling up in KC for about 5 hours each... only saw him at the end of that 12 hour stretch ever.
</p>
Finding Pawbuster took about 30 hours (or around 65 ph spawns) in the Warlord room. That doesn't count the many hours getting groups and fighting my way down there, because I had to do it in 1.5 to 3 hour sessions.
The previous spawn at that spot was a BG, not a warlord.
From what I've read here and elsewhere, all these dreary camps average something around 15-20 hours each. Some people do it in 30 minutes, some do it in 100 hours. Statistically, it looks like there is maybe a four or five percent chance of our epic target showing up for each spawn.
For me:
Targin, about 7 hours.
Raster, about 25 hours.
Pawbuster, about 30 hours.
Betrayer, about 12 hours and counting.
</p>
Heh... guess I was lucky. I was in KC grouped with a friends higher level Shaman and we decided to go down and try Hand and Warlord rooms. We were doing great when we had the Warlord pop and called in a couple more friends just for kicks. So, we are slaughtering Hand waiting for WL to repop and the warrior goes to check on it... He says "Oh you are one lucky monk Athi." and in he runs with PB behind him...
Time spent in KC about 2 hours.
Time spent in Hand/WL about 40 mins.
and it did pop right after Warlord...

I've done over 45 hours in KC at the WL camp... i still don't have my stupid pipe from there (30 plus hours in Chardok, no pipe from there either). These are not straight runs, but usually about 3 to 5 hours at a time. I generally do camp in hand room... group i have had have always been able to keep both rooms and surrounding areas clear with no problem.
I'll be back down there again soon... just keep tryin for it... thats what we monks do best... torture ourselves with these stupid camps <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/laugh.gif ALT=":lol">

Your complaning about 14 hours at a warlord spawn? Man I would have been lucky to get it in 14 hours!

Have you tried doing the 'Summon Pawbuster Dance'?
/em dances around the room tossing rose petals into the corner chanting 'Pawbuster, we love you. Pawbuster come see us. We have candy.'
Works every time.

It comes down to this: MONKS HAVE THE WORST LUCK IN EQ ON SPAWNS. I think it is built into the EQ script. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/wink.gif ALT=";)"> ) I(2-boxing with my Bard) just spent 12 hours in SSRA basement to get my fang bag. I was just killing first 2 named PH's for first 8 hours(2nd named drops bag) and saw 4 of the first named pops but never the named I needed. Then a raid showed up to get Ore and Shards and they started AEing the basement killing every basement mob for the next 4 hours - I saw every named except the one I needed 3 times minimum. I just sat there and played AE mana song lol. Then at midnight I told the raid leader I was going to wait for 1 more PH to spawn and then I was going to bed. And then the named spawned and I got my bag.
So in conclusion(236 hours on Raster BTW also - and I just bagged my Epic for elemental gloves - may I please have the 300 hours I spent getting my epic back please <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/wink.gif ALT=";)"> )

Yup, PB really sucks....camp is easy to hold once broken but after 7 times there (4-5hours per camp) I still dont have the damn pipe. I must have the worst luck in EQ history.

guess I got lucky -- got him last night after about 8 hours total over a few days ... now onto Chardok. Course I am real late in starting my epic. Hit 63 as well last night in KC ...

Yes, they did nerf it. In fact, I scrolled back through these older posts and discovered that it has been nerfed every 3 weeks for the last 3 years.
My estimation is that it muct be approximately a 1 in 650,000 chance of a spawn.
"With all that meditation I eliminated anger and hatred from my life, so I'm more relaxed now. The downside is that I can't find a single reason to get out of bed in the morning and get motivated and accomplish anything"</p>
Has any one had the problem of the quest mob EATING the metal pipe on turn-in?
Had a guildie finally get the pipe and this is what happened. Btw, it was on a room spawn that had Warlord and Pawbuster up at the same time.

I have two Pipes from the Pawbuster on Test server and seem to get him to spawn fairly common (i have two accounts and my beast and cleric both have pipe since they are lore). I would think that it is just bad luck. Btw I got one pipe about a month ago and last one about 2 weeks ago.
When I was on Veeshan and doing the Monk Epic I waited like from level 48 or 49 to level 56 leveling there to get my pipe. It is just luck since in that time people were coming and getting them without problems.
As most people know being random doesn't mean they have a set number of spawns before it has to spawn. You can be there for the next spawn after someone gets it and see him spawn again or can be there 36 hours straight and not see him at all...
So all I can say is good luck and keep trying it will eventually spawn.
</p>
Well, I got my pipe three days ago, after 200+ hours in KC, where I went from lvl 49 to 54 and picked up an AA point to boot, over the course of 6 months... That was my karma for getting Raster in 7 hours.
From this experience, I offer two suggestions for aspiring pipe seekers:
1. Don't try camping it from the hand room if your group can't consistently keep both the hand room and the warlord room empty. You will waste time fighting hand room pops while the WL room sits untouched, as someone stated earlier. Also, you don't "have" to break the hand room to get to the WL room, but you can always go back and break the hand room, then pull them to the WL room as they repop one at a time.
2. Don't wait until you are lvl 60 to do this. If you are going to quest your epic, go to Lower Guk as soon as you are capable of soloing the PH and mino's so you at least get XP while waiting for Raster, and likewise, go to KC at 45+ and even if it takes 200+ hours, you will at least be getting xp the entire time.
Best of luck, I'm off to Chardok...

Well I got my pipe from pure luck. There was a group of Wisdom casters wanting Warlord for armbands. So I accompnied them and didnt plan on pipe and lone and behold who pops. PAWBUSTER. Someone fill me in on Chardok now cause I got a feeling its not going to be this easy.
</p>
I just got my pipe tonight, after 3 nights, 8 hours each time.
Paw finally pops, I loot the pipe, last peice i needed for the robe. A friend of mine was with me, he's also a monk, and wanted to leave after i got the pipe, I convinced him to stay for 1 more round of spawns, then POP another Pawbuster.
We camped in the Warlord room and pulled from the basement, etc. between room pops.
</p>
why is it monks camp WL for 200 hours, then we hear about necros or chanters clearin through the room once for the hell of it and gettin pipe, you think maybe sony makes PB's not spawn whenever a monks within a few hundred feet of zone? personally i hate the epic quest for monk. ive had the monk trainer eat my headbands 3 times, and really bad luck with spawn times (100+ hours KC, 30+ hours raster) havnt tried dok pipe yet. i hate the make up of monk epic, i wish it would have more boss mobs, even somethin like the pain in the ass fear raid warriors and wizzies have to go through, GRR im gettin myself riled up, see ya
</p>
Took me longer to get Pawbuster than it did to get the Betrayer. I think I spent 5 levels doing Hands before I finally got him. Betrayer took me about a week; of course I got extremely lucky. He still spawned in the tunnel at that time, and a nice high level shaman (who's name, sadly, escapes me) was camping the area. He killed him and multi-ed the pipe with me the next day, free of charge.
Anywho, keep at Pawbuster. I looked at this mob the same way I looked at Targin: An experience camp that will hopefully assist you in attaining your epic.

Ditto that, sigh
Pipe from KS is the LAST peice I need then I will be epic. And MY GOD I get mad when I see some chanter auctioning the MQ. Especially guilded ones with monks in their guild that could use it. It just peices me off when I think of all the people I could have sold MQs to and didn't, instead giving them the peice with a smile.
Ok that became a rant kinda fast <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/wink.gif ALT=";)">
</p>
First time I did epic, I luckily had guildie friend with PB pipe in bank to MQ for me. Second time, when I decided I wanted a RotWF again, I went to see if I might get lucky... and I did, cleared the room once and second round of spawns got the PB. I have no idea why, sort of made up for all the other crappy luck I've had in EQ.
</p>
I personally had some very good luck, and some very bad:
Targin: maybe 30 minutes(actually looted his book 5 or 6 times since I used to solo in solb a lot and people would /shout he was up so I'd go kill him and MQ it for some random monk)
Raster: 40 hours at least(thank god my friend was nice enough to camp it with me)
Pawbuster : only god knows, but was many hours over a 3 month span(have never seen him since)
Betrayer: was up the first time I ever entered the zone(old spawn point) so maybe 15 minutes tops just clearing our way to him
</p>
