To soon to tell..

I have grown accustom to playing EQ a certain way. I 2 box with my druid and if I'm not able to do what I used to do, I will be forced to make a change. Weather I change characters or quit all together is, and will remain in the hands of VI.

I for one, see a patch soon.

Put monks back the way we were, and change our abilities for mobs that hit for a certain amount, like 300+.. Mitigate our dmg taken under these circumstances, not across the board.

If a mob hits for 300+ Max dmg, put a stipulation on our dodge and parry. That way Monks will not be able to tank mobs that hit that hard for any longer then intended.

/shrug, I tend to not try and figure out Verant.. Verant is like a female. Very hard to figure out, and once you think you have it, they change everything on ya.

Too soon to tell, from what I have read, Non-uber players are screwed. I will probably wait another week and see what happens or what annoucements they make. I think this nerf missed the uber monks it was intended for and hit the casual, non-uber player. If they don't make any more changes I may be a former 50 monk changed into a rogue. /shrug only time will tell.

I have quit Manafist, in fact, quit him the day I heard about this, and from what I've heard from other monks his level and with similiar equipment, I've no regrets, as I went back to my level 60 cleric and have been having a great time again.

On that note, WTS Fungi Tunic on Nameless for platinum on The Seventh Hammer. :P

My friend quit for good. Gave away most of the stuff on both accounts he had and deleted his people just to make sure it was for good this time =( If my account was active I would give em a few weeks then quit myself but he was just sick of all the BS changes they have been adding.

Never trade for plat on 7th =) trust me, fungi tunics go for 110k here, fungi patch vests (the BST ones) go for 200k when you see them. CoF etc, around 100-120k, Torpor they try to sell for 70k or more.

The server is 1)Younger then many 2)had a lot of very high level people transfer to it when it came up. End result is that it is one of the highest priced servers I believe, at least based on the prices I see other people paying for gear on other servers.

Worst case scenario i'll go back to playing my Druid, Warrior or Rogue and get one of them to 60 mabee.

And as someone else stated, somehow I see another patch coming shortly to "fix" what they "fixed" which may very well be a positive for Monks who got it bad in this last nerf. They NEVER get a class ballance change right on the first try, and probably never will... Either way, its basicly a wait and see thing for me.

I'll still solo/duo mobs just like I had before the patch and i'll still pull whatever I did before as well, I just might take more deaths doing so. Big whoop... Its only XP and once you've maxed the 60 bar, its only a matter of a few kills to fill in that minimal loss caused by a death (after a 96% rez of course).

The nerf/patch sucks. They took a fine class and beat it to hell. Monks have no real role in a group--ok maybe raids they can still pull--and that's been debated here. But a pickup group in DL? Who'd want a monk over: rogue, warrior, ranger, SK?

I dual box and now the druid support looks ubber-powerful. Geezus, I hate druids, shit they can take sparse mobs and then kite them around for 10 minutes and this is part of Verant's vision, but not FD pulling! So verant picks on monks. Bards at high level can heal more damage per click than clerics (so i've been told by bards). They mez. Unlimited "manna". You *could* easily make the case to nerf them using Verant's screwed up logic.

I have a shaman/SK alt team. Or maybe I'll start up a ranger. They dual wield. Spells. Tracking. Sow/snare. Track. Crits with archery like for 1600 pts. Taunt. I just wish Ogres could be rangers....(sigh).

Or maybe I'll quit. Too soon to tell.

I also quit the day I read the announcement. My other primary character was a mage (go figure). I quit because this isn't the first time Verant has pulled crap like this, and it won't be the last. It will be the last time they do it to me, however. Regardless of how the changes end up affecting the class, the principle of the matter was enough of a straw to break the proverbial back (me being a camel and all). VI doesn't give a rat's ass whether I quit, I'm sure, as my absence won't make any noticeable difference to them, but I feel better about not supporting them anymore.

10-17-2002, 01:32 AM
I'm a little disheartened with the changes. . . but I seriously thought it would be worse than it really is.

It's not "that" bad, IMO. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)">

I pulled HoT all night tonight and I really didn't have to adjust much with the pulls. A few Vehement Wyverns were extra nasty, but for the most part, it was okay.

I switch my time between my monk and my 55 Ranger alt. I'm really enjoying the Ranger these days. But, I'll never quit my monk, hehe. It's kind of like having a favorite team that you root for each year, even though they're in dead last place.

I just like the Monk class that way, kind of a loyalty of sorts.

Peace~

Nope Haven't Quit, and I wouldn't Quit over this. Like always I will adapt and press on, playing my class for the fun of it. I may quit due to RL issues shortly, but not because of this simple screw up, everyone is human, they make mistakes. Verant makes many, (nobody said they were smart people), but like always if you don't like it don't play it, simple concept. They will realize their error at some point or another, besides, makes me more in demand when there are less monks around =P

If the changes remain as is, I will also quit and NEVER play anothe Sony/VI produced game again, period. If they feel we need to be nerfed, fine, but this was WAY too harsh, and I refuse to join SWG and invest 3 yaers again to get screwed by another VI 'Dev' Team.

I will also steer as many of my friend AWAY from BVI products as possible. Other MMORPGs like 'City of Heroes' looks promising, and I'm sure more will pop up so there's more than 3 or 4 selections for this type of entertainment.

I Pre-Ordered PoP, but if things for Monks are still the same, tahtstore will have an extra copy on hand for some other player still willing to put of with VIs crap.

Plain and simple. I was on a very crowded server ( Tunare ) and people wasnt being too kind eachother. Big guilds being asses and so. I also got bored with the game and decided to pump up my RL. Never regreted.

But was a nice experience, and having the luck of pulling on each zone of the game did rock ... i specially loved the NToV pulls. We had a great pulling team ( Tsin, Gthor, Corbyn, Mirross and me) and imo we did rock!!! Even we pulled really nice Vulak for 1st time, single pull on first try and with just two of us ( think Mirross and me). Plus not checking any board, just imagination, pure and simple hehe. Also with the help of our cothers ( Anik and Lilminx mostly /hugs guys ) and our dedicated healers ( basically Dangrim ... you still smell ! ). Great team work, and great fun as well. Ssra sucks for pullers ( except maybe AL room pathing). Also Tmax pull rocks ... basically, Vellious was great for me, and Luclin not :P

Hey, monkies, do you mean we're that weak so as to leave on the first sight of problems? Of course we're not, but when you can avoid being fu**ed, why would you want to be done so?

I personally have enough ppl who want to fu** me, and I'm going to leave because paying to be fu**ed (well, a lot of ppl do so, but not in this way) seems too much for me...

I will not delete my monk in hopes of them de-nerfing them, or giving them some sort of offensive bonuses, or what-not, to counter the straight defensive nerf. Not to mention I don't want to lose the Raster Idol I have, or the MQ of Jboots I paid for, etc.

But for now, I've stopped playing my monk, indefinitely, and put most all his gear on a new Ogre/Beastlord, anything he could wear anyway.

Seems to be about a 10-15% defence (mitigation/ac) nerf, unless you have gear ~200ac or more above the ac soft cap for the mob you're fighting.

(and no addition to avoidance - despite the fact every other melee class got an INCREASE in avoidance in the SAME patch.)

So those with the worst gear get hit most by the nerf (from L1 to 60), and those with uber gear aren't affected at all.

WTG Verant those Evil casual gamers that actually enjoy the game and the monk class were just too happy! /sigh

I have been semi-quit for a while now. Verant just does not get it.

Cocteau is only one of my charactors. My first love is my Paladin, and do not even get me started with how stupid Verant made the Paladin. I have played every class and do not quit simply because my monk got nerfed.

I am not really interested in EQ these days because Verant are morons. They have the most popular online game there is, and what do they do? They do things to totally piss off a majority of their players and cause them to quit. Does that make any sense at all? I think not. What they should do, is keep they game fun for the casual player, the players who are not ultra uber. I am sorry to point this out, but the ultra uber are the reason for the nerfs. Verant has no clue how to make the game interesting to the 24/7 uber raid elite. They assumed people would be addicted but they did not figure that people would work there way through their content like a 13 year old playing Final Fantasy high on chocolate and sprite.

"PLAYoffs? PlayOFFS?"

If you quit, and you want it to mean something, send VI/Sony a letter and let them know you quit, and why. Tell them you feel slighted as a customer and left because of poor developer/customer interaction.

For those who did quit, did you think of quitting when other classes got "nerfed?" Or when some other change you perceived as "negative" was implemented?

Good change, bad change, it really doesn't matter to me. I for one am happy that VI is still involved in changing the game, making it a dynamic evolving world. I'm sure there will plenty of other out there who have parsed data to tell me exactly how "bad" it is to be a monk now. My experience from yesterday is that light blue mobs that I used to solo for tradeskill (smithing) drops I can still solo. They occasionally hit me for a little more than they used to, but the average hit isn't any higher, and I still avoid many, many hits. Blues I used to solo: same story. Blues I used to be able to solo sometimes, I still can solo, sometimes, but it's a little harder fight now. Oh, and I've lost 13 points of AC.

My response is, if you're leaving EQ over this, then you were ready to leave because of other reasons, this just became the last straw. If you think you're going to be happier playing some other MMOLRPG, just hope that the grass really is greener, because sooner or later you're going to run into the same kind of "nerf."

I would have to say to monks (including some things I myself said this past week) AND all those who "whined" and helped bring this change about (and you warriors know who you are) to stop looking at what some other class can do, and just learn to play the class you have chosen. My roommate plays a necro, my girlfriend plays a druid. If I compare what they can do to what I can accomplish as a monk, I'll pull my hair out. While they are quad kiting/fearing blue to yellow mobs, I'm getting my leather clad butt handed to me by a couple of green grimlings (and this was before the patch).

But I still have fun doing it, because I chose the monk because of the RL philosophy that forms the basis of the character class. I know I will have to make some adjustments to what I fight and when I run away. The number of solo encounters that I cannot do has not really changed. And my group function hasn't changed at all. The increased amount of damage I take now is so small as a percentage in a group function, when I have healer and good buffs, isn't even noticable to me. If I have to , I'll adjust, and learn the ways that I can have fun playing my monk. If not, there's always my cleric/warrior/mage/beastlord/wizard......

I have cancelled both of my accounts and sent a few feedbacks to VI before I did. BUT the main reason for me quitting was not the fact that they screwed my 57 monk up. It was VI's total lack of response to my and the rest of the monk communities concerns. I am sure a lot of you like me requested information about the proposed changes and what did we get ? absolutely nothing from VI.

I am appalled at the complete lack of customer service in regards to our concerns as a whole and that in itself has been the mitigating factor in my accounts cancellation. I noticed that on the Dev Corner that they responded to Mages concerns on the mod rod nerf but not one single thing about the monk defensive changes.

I will not give my equipment away yet hoping that VI will at least acknowledge that they have heard and reviewed our concerns (no matter the outcome).

But if something dosn't come soon this is what I will do...

/emote will never buy a VI product again

/emote will never buy a sony product again

/emote will do his best to convince all his aquaintances not to buy from company(s) that have a complete lack of customer concern like VI and Sony.

If you're gonna quit...don't just cancel. Show everyone your outrage, and that you mean it when you say you are done. The following plan is for those that want to go out with a bang, and are a little more jilted about recent changes. Being moderately sociopathic also helps.

Feign-train large raids. Speed-key settings to kill:

Find a tough raid going on...something ToV, deep Kael, what have you. Wait until they are all buffed up and early into the big fight. This allows for a sporting chance, and much longer viewing time. If you're a real prick, wait for them to be about done, THEN engage Operation: FUBAR.

/say Sorry, my ability to mitigate just isn't what it used to be.

/say Gonna have to do what Verant intended for monks and just feign and stay in the fetal position urinating myself. Sorry you have to pay the price for my nerfage. Send complaints to: EQMail@station.sony.com, thank you and have an enjoyable CR.

/bye

/doability feign death

Watch the raid in question turn into a gigantic Keystone Cops routine, get some screenshots for posterity, and keep logs for laughs. Rinse and repeat until <font color =yellow>YOU HAVE BEEN SUMMONED BY THE GODS!!</font>

Continue until banned. Then you know you won't get bored one day, experience a bit of weakness and re-up that account. At this point, you can go out and do all that yardwork you've been meaning to "get to" for these last few years.

On the plus note, this allows for all classes to enjoy the nerf to its fullest extent. If you can't share with the community that has shown so much support for us ( ie - Warrior_01: HA HA UR NERFED, Pally_02: U SUK N DESURV 2 B NERF!, Shammie_03: ur 2 pwrful ne-way) after all these hard years of death during pulling, then what have we gained?

(The above is just an idea I've heard floating around the monk community, and certainly nothing that I would encourage, condone, nor take part in.)

I gotta give VI credit, I don't think I've ever seen a gaming company piss so many people off in one swoop like this. Bravo.

I haven't quit my Monk and I'm not going to play another class. If this nerf makes the game unplayable to me, I'll just quit. But I'm still hanging in there, hoping for a change or some sort of logical explanation at least. they upgraded tanks, why did they need to nerf monks? FU verant

I recommend you all have a seperate board for peeps who quit. Druids grove implemented Fallen Leaves for Druids who quit so they could post their goodbyes.

I reccomend something along the lines of Attained Chi or Deep Meditation or some such phrase you can come up with.

I think its kinda classy to have a board for folks who are moving on, more will be coming due to nerfs and the game getting old/new games coming out.

Come on people. One little nerf and your quitting? Try playing a necro, we were nerfed like 20 patches in a row!

They are simply lowering a monks damage mitigation ability to where it should be. AC is still important, HP is still important. They are not "lowering" the AC of a monk. Each time a monk takes damage, they will take "more" damage than normal. Drop your STR items, get some AC items. Don't use UBERLY high aggro weapons on a RAID, FD when when RAID mob aggro's you, etc etc etc. You simply have to change the way you play is all.

Necro's have had to go through the NERF BAT like 20 times, and ya simply gots to change how you play. A lot of people don't like change, and understandedly I DO NOT PERSONALLY think that monks were GAME ALTERING, but when things like this happen ya gotta suck it up and continue on, like us Necro's have for 3 years.

On a sidenote: Playing this game isn't, to me, always about STATS and DPS and ABILITY, but about Socializing with other people, going on little group RAIDS, etc. Some of the most fun I've had in the last month with my monk was going into ME at level 9 to try and get a GSC. Sure I died like 100 times, but man it was fun! Shouting Level 9 Monk LFG in ME was hilarious! I had 3 groups trying to get a GSC for me, and it was a blast. Thanks to Guild Arete, who finally pulled one down for me! Point is: This game isn't all about stats/mechanics and number, its also about having fun.

Deed/Nez out.

I can't believe anyone would quit over a change in the game like this. Doesn't really make sense. Did all the necro's quit when there pets were tuned way down, in what was that, oh ya like March of 2000? No, there are still a ton on necro's running around today, even after being "nerfed".

I myself play a monk, he is 43 and before the patch got comments and complaints from the guild everytime I played him. In zones like CoM when we were raiding to get some reavers I would pull to group, feign, get up fight, get argo, kill reaver while taking less damage than the pally and ranger who were also there and who are both 54. On a normal basis I could tank better than both of them, and they didn't like it one bit. Can you blame them? I two boxed with my cleric and I could mow through the entrance of CoM and clear all the mobs without a single complete heal, I would cele heal every now and then, but mostly just pull and hit attack.

So, is this worth quiting over? No! Will we have to adjust, yes. Are we more in line with everyone else, yes. That is good, I also a 59 Paladin, and sadly there was times when my monk was a better tank than the paladin.

Hmm, I think that if I do quit, the nerf's effect will be a small part of my decision. I've been playing since August of 99. I've leveled up various classes, met a lot of good folks (and some bad), had a lot of fun, etc. Lately though, the game has become a chore. My wife and I both play and it's to the point where unless we both <u>want</u> to log on neither of us do. I've started playing golf again regularly, seeing rl friends on a more consistent basis ect. I don't think I'd change the last few years (it hasn't affected my life that much) but I'm sure the end is near, nerf or no nerf... my 2cps

to some people the game is about socializing, to some it isnt. people who play the game to win are the ones outraged...people who play to hang out w/ friends couldnt care less....saying "youre wrong because you play to kill mob a and get item b" makes little sense and less effect

Just a random couple random comments for fun:

a) no on knows what verant did to monks

b) i'm guessing some programmer was told to change it, so he picked a random line of code and changed it, wait for respoinse, then change a differnet line while restoring the first. eventually, the programmer will change the right line and people will be quite

Hehe yep. That will affect things quite a lot, not exactly valid in many ways.

As far as I'm concerned they can reduce out ability to tank, I don't mind or care especially.

But they could have done it with out seriously nerfing monks solo abilities.

Simply nerf defence (great can no longer tank anything like as well) and proportionally increase monk damage. (great can't tank anymore, can still solo.)

But no VI has to choose the silliest most player unfreindly way.

another interesting thought

monks having such high ac is from verant giving high ac items a low weight. this makes the all/all good items fesable and nice for monks, thus monks gain ac's of 1500+

this nerf is an instant solution to a problem which has been developing longer than ihave played....it wont suporise me if verant continues to put in plate armour w/ low weight while expecting monks to stay a leather wearing class

I logged on the night of the patch, killed a few dogs in kc, got my ass handed to me by lb dogs, went on a doz raid, got hammerred there pretty hard and realized it was no longer worth it. So after 60 levels 25aa pts i'm retiring Gad and going to play my kitty bard.

Unless they change monks again i probably wont bring gad on unless I need to cr someplace relatively simple.

Holy crap break out the cheese!

My monk is hardly uber and according to everyone whining, would be the hardest hit by the nerf (mid level non uber gear). I hardly noticed any difference. Did the usually cleric/monk duo with my buddy and we where able to kill same as before. When he logged I was able to solo the same shrooms, wolves, and zelniaks as I was before. No fungi, no 36% haste, no uber anything.

I wish I would have parsed some fights before the nerf so I could be sure, but at first glance it looked like I was getting hit less often but getting hit for max a lot more. The damage is certainly more streaky than before but hardly anything to quit over.

My first impression is that monk mitigation can be compared to the 2 warrior disciplines Evasive and Defensive. Before the nerf, monk mitigation was like the Defensive disc. All damage was being mitigated somewhat and the damage a mob did was very linear and predictable. After the nerf it is more like Evasive. You don't mitigate damage as well, but you don't get hit as often. This leads to spikes in mob damage and it is much less predictable. For any 2 of the same mob, it might take you down to 20% health one time due to a string of hits, while the next one will only take you to 70% dues to a string of misses.

We, enough rambling. Quit if you want, the more good monk items for sale in the bazaar, the better it is for me.

I'd bet dollars to donuts that if your system can handle Luclin it will handle WoW just fine. The models look bright and stylish but the polygon count does not seem excessive. Which means they are relying on textures to give detail and not geometry. That's the smart way to do it for massive multiplay.

I started a Monk because they are the only pure melee class that could solo well (no Rangers, Paladins, Shadowknights are NOT pure melee).

I don't care about numbers and figures and calculations.

I know how well I could solo before this patch, and I know how well I can (or can't) solo now.

And on a safety note, placing a stop payment against Sony, incase they "forget" that my accounts are canceled. Judging from how they manage things with EQ over the past almost 4years now, think the billing dept is any better?

They have violated the ONE defining principle of a persistant game world.. dont totally change the game for people. Why the hell should I get aaxp or better gear if its just to be the same as I was when I was perfectly balanced?

Investing time and money in playing EQ is like investing in real-estate in a place where they have an earthquake every 6 months.

Here is a clue Verant... change the rules in new expansions but DONT screw up people across the board.

No persistance = no security = no fun.

IF there is a major bug USE YOUR HEAD to fix it.. DON'T GO FOR THE QUICK SOLUTION.

Good thing too what with all the hubbub over these changes.

Posted this as the reason I made a Monk, fits perfectly here too.

-----------------------------------

hmm.

My first character ever was druid. Looked at the abilities, healing, buffing, ports, debuffs, nukes and thought 'wow, great utility class, should be a really great part of a group'.

Got tired of soloing at 30 and made a warrior.

Got sick of always chasing the next peice of gear I had to have.

Died 3 times in a pickup group in Najena, last one was a no res / group broke deal that left him 4 zones away with no money. Ate 6 more deaths on the cr attempts.

Shelved him at 32.

Looked at the monk class descriptions:

"The Monk is dedicated to honing her body into a pure weapon, shunning most weapons and forms of armor. She's very religious as well, and the gods are known to bless Monks by magically enhancing their attacks." - EQ Manual.

Loved it, I was level 19 before I started using anything but fists. Did the noob armor quests and bought a few pieces of wu's, then didn't worry about gear at all till nearly 40.

At 43, my ac / hp is nearly identical to my warrior at 32, so I've taken the nerf-bat square on the chin.

/shrug Given the choice of playin a class I loved to play, now reduced to a loot whore same as the one I shelved for the same reason, or finding something else to do with my time. Guess I will go on my way remembering it was fun for a while.

I won't be buying PoP myself. Thinking seriously of dumping EQ anyway, i'm on legends so i'll be saving myself a wad of cash if i do.

As for alternatives to VI games i highly recommend EVE online. They have a new behind the scenes video you can download from their webpage. (http://www.eve-online.com/)

I'm starting to get tired of medieval fantasy mmorpg's and have been dying for someone to make an elite MMORPG style game. These guys look to have done it in spades. I'm depserately hoping to get in the beta. This game company has great potential.

I guess VI is doing me a favor by pushing me away to what i think will be a superior game. Just wished they hadn't destroyed the monk class untill Eve hits the shelves. =)

I quit at least 4 months ago. I heard about the nerfs and started going to all my old message boards, this one in particular, to see how it was affecting players first-hand. I'll merely say quitting EQ, for me anyway, was a great decision, and there are plenty of other games out there to keep one entertained.

However, this nerf did affect me in that I was highly anticipating Star Wars Galaxies. This nerf kind of reminded me of how many times Verant had screwed over their player-base over the years, so I'm a little hessitent towards buying any online game now. I'm turning into more and more of a console gamer every day. If you're a MMORPG fan though, there are plenty coming down the pipe.

Anywho, good luck to everyone and keep having fun; one way or another.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)">

I'm hanging up my 2 acounts. I've allready stripped my characters. I'm just waiting untill I let all my friends in the game know that I'm leaving.

It's not just this silly nerf that hit far from the bullseye. My main acount is pre kunark and lately I've had this bad feeling creeping up on me. This last blunder just kinda put it in the light. I really hate to say it but I feel like they honestly don't know what they're doing anymore.

P.S. I play a shaman as a main but my second acount has a lvl 52 monk that I USED to love to play.

I currently pay for 6 accts and after this monk nerf I am about to finish unloading stuff off alts on one of them and cancel it.

Which will put me at 5 accts. IF the PoP expansion does some seriously stupid things (such as allowing some sort of hub that allows free painless access to Plane of Mischief-on RZ with all the scumbag manaburn ganks, sk ganks etc this will ruin the zone, if you're not on a pvp server you won't understand so just ignore this example) anyway if they really screw the pootch another 2-3 accts will be cancelled.

And finally if we don't see some serious improvement to monks to compensate us for this nerf-I want to see stuns added to our flying kicks (plate classes now bash for 95 dm + added stun) and I want to see some serious addition of damage ( read the parse thread showing whole guilds damage using VT weapons on this site, a warrior outdamaged the two monks, nd the rogues were insanely ahead of the monks, and a ranger was like 1 dps beneath us NOT COUNTING any bow dm, just melee (grrr and the AM3/EQ rangers I know were the ones gloating the most about this monk nerf)

Anyway if we don;t see some serious, class redefining additions to us to make up for the role they ripped form us then I'll cancel another account or two. At that point it will be all over for my relationship now or ever in the future with any Verant product.

I wont Quit, I like my monk and there are so much things left for me to see, try, explore, quest and many many more mobs to fight. I do have 2 friends monk 55 and 58 who quit.

Not me, maybe I am only 52, I am not 60, I don't have my epic and I have tons of adventures ahead of me. I don't like the nerf maybe I am no big shot like many are (no offense meant). I also am relatively new to the game, 1 1/2 years or so. I seen patches come and go as well as nerf.

But I have spend so much time and energy that I don't want it to go to waste and maybe that as a lot to do, found a new guild. The new guild has totally change my way to see the game. I feel bad to see experienced monk to go, when I gota ask a necro to show me how and where to pull Vox ( we didn't rush her) Well she was nice and all, but I would have felt more in trust coming from a fellow monk. I did good pulled her, she feared me and I fell in the pit. Lol...I don't care it was fun, they killed her while I was running down below found the ladder up and died from mobs! Point is we, younger monk need you high level monk, whose gona teach me to do PoH or any other plane? a SK???

If all you old and wise monk leaves it does more then hurt the game it hurts us the younger monk who wana stick and stay. I share and understand your frustration, don't get me wrong. I however hope you enjoy ...how shall I put it, your retirement. I am sure many of you will miss you.

Wana know what I felt like when the raid leader ask me to pull her? Damn proud no one else but me and only my other buddy monk where in this 56 peeps involved in the raid, 2 monks that is all. I am proud to be a monk, and I tell them!!

btw lol the loot was crap, no book, 3 cleric mace , the bard horn.....and a nice weight redux bag!!!

It is so strange that people can be bent over, violated without lube and to such an extent they are willin gto throw away the character they have spent years building but DON'T cancel their accounts.

Listen. Verant will only respect ONE thing. The money they receive. I am pretty sure the number of cancellations has been noticed but there seems to be a lot of monks who are stopping playing their toon but not canecelling. Remember you can still play till billing cycle ends. Get that "End Billing" button hit and SEND THE MESSAGE TO VERANT.

I start my monk 3 years ago when they really blew chunks only follow by rogues. Back then IF we had almost compleet set up netted witha vox bracer at 40 you where uber. Heck i wore a lockjaw tunic till i was 48. Face it boys and girls the game has gotten Extremly easyer for monks over the years from what i see the average non twinked monk at level 25 has alot beter equipment that I had at 50. Course that was back when it took like 3 months to get to level 20 :). I love my monk and have been around threw the highs and lows. Heck if they nerfed monsk defence to 100 Id still play my monk just adapt the way i play. In general up until mid kunark when monks got there first fungi monks could not solo at all except mabey soem exp green if there where lucky and then was like 10 minutes down time per fight. Personaly I expected it to be bad when i heard the anouncment but i knew it would be know where as hard as it was origonaly when i started my monk. That people would quit over and announcement of a possable nerf boggles me. Yes i was upset the day after the patch when i got my arses handed to me by the first spider in velks and logged. Next day i went back and said okay what did i do wrong and what do i need to do to help me some more. All i did was bumb a small regen buff from a passing druid then work on my mob positioning and i was good to go. To be a succesfull monk you have to learn to adapt to changing things and think outside of the box. Something not working? Find anther way adapt and change.

And back in the day when you were in Mesh armour, a Warrior was doing pretty damn well kitted out all in Bronze armour... you were comparable.

Hrm.

Allied monks that I know (one is 56, the other is in her mid 40's) said that they really don't notice much of a difference at all. Apparently the damage is more random, so sometimes a light blue will do 60% of their health, while other times it'll only take out one red bubble.

The 40ish one, since she never had much twink gear to begin with, said that she seems to be doing better soloing now.

Have all of you soloed for a few days before immediately shouting what a horrible nerf it was?

I have, i been fighting the gnomes in Echo, started at 48 now i am at 52, i still fight them, nice spot by the way, they are now light blue. Having said that i died yesterday from one (FD failed). I was full HPS when i started the fight didnt have mend up and i always try to fear them. Well it was neck to neck and i really thought i could beat it. Now i fight so many of those gnomes that one fight over 2-4 hours is nothing. I dont have parse or what not. What i have tough is 4 levels of fighting the same mob. Before the patch i would get hit and take less damage, now i see much more punches to my ugly lizard face at 89hps a pop. More yes, but not enough to stop me from fighting em. They are slightly undercon. I a somewhat decent gear wise, ac-997 with SoS proc an ATk about 1007 with Gobby earring buff.

Come on, you think a few monks ruining it for others will do much for them? You just earn yourself a suspsension / ban (at least you'll be gone for good if you so desire) and people think your a dick.

Cancelled my account the day I read about this...

"Come on people. One little nerf and your quitting? Try playing a necro, we were nerfed like 20 patches in a row!"

Hum, if this was the only thing they have done in the recent months, I would not quit. Neither would many others.

The thing is, monks are being beaten into the ground. Between the insane caster upgrades (what in the hell, they were ALREADY better than a warrior mob), resist nerfs, and now this, it is pushing many people over the edge.

Taking a break from my monk until this all blows over, got my druid a couple more levels hehe.

Made a warrior too on the second account, since 2boxing with the bard would've been very hard heheh.

Hopefully they'll give monks something that will compensate for this nerf.

When the nerf went in place I got on my monk, was in KC, so I pulled a drolvarg sentry (dark blue con). Had some cleric buffs that put my HPs at 3043 or so.

By the time the drolvarg was dead, I was down to 890 HPs, so it did roughly 2153 points of damage in the fight. Almost every hit he landed was for 80 - 100.

The week before I was soloing these, unbuffed, not even SoW`d. My unbuffed HPs is 1999 HPs, and I could usually kill a drolvarg sentry and have about 45 - 65% health left. Meaning they used to do about 900 - 1300 HPs in damage.

Yes, I did this multiple times to make sure the first one wasn't a fluke. From my results from 5 sentrys, all dark blue, they were doing about 40% more damage than they used to. I'll do more testing, assuming I can find clerics to buff up my HPs <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/ohwell.gif ALT=":"> .

Believe ot or not my main is a warrior and even i saw the bad side to these nerfs before the patch went in.

But i also see the other side

General EQ day

get a group standard makeup, warrior monk cleric drui/sammy caster of some kind whatever, lets just look at the warrior/monk

i lvl 37 he lvl 34

i have 770 ac not sure what his is

i level maxxed on dual wield double attack and 1hs wielding JboM and Centi Longsword taunt also maxxed

he has 2 KD's

Not only does he out damage me that i can handle, lose taunt, hey just keep reminding him to fd(which he wouldnt do) so i get it back, but i get damaged worse than him in the long run as well

to sum up, with max skills available to my warrior at the time a monk 3 levels lower than me could out hit taunt and had higher defensive abilities than myself. IE - he replaces my role as a tank

Now after patch, group with the same monk, and he is bitchin about his nerf, see it from my side, sorry but i will tell you all what i told him, change the way u play and move on.

Monks were never meant to be tanks, and that is what they were before this patch. this puts the roleplaying aspect of the game back on par. I do agree they overdid it, but it needed to happen.

You all think u have been hard done by, think about all the mid level warriors that kept gettin passed up because monks could outtank us at lower levels

just my 2cp

Dont just look at it from your side, look at it from the non twink/average equip warrior that is trying to do his job and failing caus the monks were way overpowered

My one and only char (Gujoryu) born April 1999 died the day of the patch. I've struggled over 54 levels...grouped when I can, but I had to do a lot solo because of RL constraints (I'm a physician). I was really having a great time, making a difference in the guild and enjoying the game.

I logged on the other day and with fairly good gear (fungi, sshs, Amy Staff) got my ass handed to me in KC by sentry's (the same ones I solo'd a day before). Went outside to DL and found that things were just as bad even with the light blues. I looked to my guild for support (I can't imagine being anything but supportive to others if this happened to them) only to find none. People were openly bashing me in the guild channel, I just wanted to be sick.

I don't know much about visions and where things are going, but I do know that I'm upset that I've paid into something for over 3 years to have this happen. Its hard to actually cancel my accout, but if nothing changes in the next week then its Verant's way of telling us politely (or rudely) its time to leave (don't let the door hit you in the butt). I'm not sure what they want, but I guess its not my money anymore. I too will never buy another product from this company and strongly encourage others to do the same.

I created Raot within the week after Tribunal came up. Didn't play him much till the winter though, mostly because I was too busy for EQ. But after that, I started playing him quite a lot, and found myself really enjoying it. This was, of course, before Kunark. I didn't like what Verant did to the design of the game with Kunark, but it wasn't enough to get me to stop playing.

But then more things happened. I'm sure some of you remember how Verant player wiped Test. I was pretty horrified by that, and it was somewhat more personal to me as I sometimes played on Test. Then came other brilliant things, such as the Mystere banning incident. If I didn't have some friends who played EQ, I would have quit over that.

As time went on, I found I was enjoying playing less. And I realised that there were no more goals I had that I could attain, given my playstyle, social habits, and decidedly casual/roleplaying guild. The raids I was invited on were entertaining enough, but I watched as people left behind all of their principles when it came time to dole out the loot. And it got worse as EQ became more and more item centric.

I'm not sure exactly what it was, but I stopped playing. And then I finally cancelled my account this summer. I didn't enjoy playing Everquest anymore, my friends weren't playing it as much, and my online acquaintances had sort of drifted away. Then there was my belief that Verant didn't care about its customers, and didn't even know how to design a game to be rewarding. I decided, last month, to renew again, just to give it another shot. And then I read the rather large nerf announcement. I barely even had to think about cancelling again.

Mine has been permanently retired, striped, and will be deleted when I have the heart. The equipment will allow me to twink a warrior and a shaman. this way I can play classes that are actually nerfed for the better.

Fuck you VI, for ruining the best toon I ever had. Thank God I have a 60 cleric to play now instead, Fuck you VI, I will NOT be buying PoP and I will NOT be playing EQ2, Fuck you VI !!!

I have quit playing my monk as far as levelling goes. He is now my tradeskill tailoring mule as my tailoring is 202. If things don't change for the better I will probably sell off all his gear (worth about 200k) and twink another class.

honestly i notice a slight increase in teh amount of dmg i take on raids pulling and such.. HoT is same as before tho.. really run.. never let them hit you. Soloing is a bit harder.. i may have to use a few more bandaids.. but really not alot changed for me.

Ha. That's all I can even think to say. We have been through alot, however its in my mind's eye that to VI we are not the Shaolin monks of ass whoopage, the Chinese warriors of metal. (taken for the fact that our Class title is Sensei, GJ VI use a japanese name for a chinese idea (gives people at VI the "giant L" award.)

Oh get past that, we are not 'monks' we are brawlers, we are fist fighters, street fighters. Where a plate wearing warrior is "Anoooold" with bulging mussles. Maybe I am being an idealst and maybe I do stuff diffrently then I am supposed to, but Velks is a joke to solo at 60, fear the power of a 60 monk a fungi tstaff and a butt load of bandages! I get the job done, I have no issues. while camping shards in ssra I got to tank the warden for a while just because our MT was "serveceing" his wife, stone stance and mend and I was back the game. yah sure you cant tank AOW or cursed or something, but you know what I can't hardly tell the diffrence, save for the fact that I dodge block and get missed so much that I feel like I should be in the Matrix sequil.

I ain't quitting, this shit is just getting good.

So, monk damage mitigation got nerfed. Boo hoo. I guess your main motivation for playing EQ was to see your Monk take damage a certain way, and now that the thrill is gone it's time to move on. Get real. It isn't some catastrophic thing, it isn't going to change how the game is fundamentally played, and if you quit because of this change I'm surprised you didn't cancel your account in outrage on the first patch day you came across because they made changes to Befallen or something.

If you're gonna quit, be my guest, otherwise just suck it up and get back to playing the game.

Talibkweli, grumpy ass 60 MNK, MT

PS: I noticed that I was taking hits for more damage, but I must have been getting hit less, because I was killing at about the same rate as usual more or less. They didn't remove the FD skill guys, its not that big of an adjustment.

</p>

10-21-2002, 02:49 PM
So, what, you all cancelled your Everquest accounts but you still find it worthwhile to check this message board? Are you monks in real life then, too? So what now, you'll just complain about EQ full time in lieu of actually playing the game? Get over it. If you really quit, then move on. I'm sure Shadowbane will have some class that you can play that you'll be able to claim is serially neglected, underpowered, and savagely oppressed, but for some reason you just keep playing them anyway.

</p>

10-21-2002, 03:16 PM
Some of us are bent out of shape over a nerf... what are you bent out of shape over? Or are you just bent out of shape?

If the angst over the nerf winds you up so much why'd you decide to come to a forum soley concerned with the nerf?... Ah, you get your kicks being the hardman of Monkdom... like "RAWR!" and stuff.

I quit my monk. Not entirely because of the nerf, but because of the "you deserved its" coming from alot of others. It was 10% nerf 90% other class MIS-conception / griefing / ignorance that made me turn from a monk.

Just going to play low level til Shadowbane comes out, then I'm done with EQ for good.

A good point was made somewhere in this thread. Verrant will not care a whiff about those that stop playing their monks but still pay their accounts and go play something else. They will on the other hand be hurt if tons of people stop paying.

To all those that are truly quitting Eq well .. farewell, luck in futur game/endevors etc etc.

As for myself, no Im not quitting my monk.

Reason is quite simple. Im playing EQ for now, waiting for ShadowBane to come out. When ShadowBane comes out, EQ I will never play again. Nor an VI products either. Its really sad that Star Wars is done by Verrant, Ive noticed lots of players that like me arent going to that game caus its VI.

Until then, Im sticking around and having fun with the friends I have online, and Ill keep playing the monk caus its the class I like right now.

Take a look at the list of Necro nerfs in the last 3 years:

- DoT duration nerfed on kiting

- 49 pet max tuned from 69 -> 55

- charm removed

- AE lifetap IV (Majong Mistmore was casting it as NPC) got changed before it went life to DMM (dead man walking -> renamed to DMF later)

- dagger speed does not affect pet anymore

- FD nerf = mobs over lvl 35 remember people

- FD nerf = breaks after 2 minutes - got removed after 1 patch

- FD nerf = people stand up on LD - got removed after 1 patch

- FD nerf = charm breaks

- FD nerf = pet poofs after 2 minutes

- root/pet nerf = pet got minor proc in order to break root

- pet proc rate lowered

- certain mobs were made immune to fear (armor in WL for example)

- DC 75% exp nerf

Take a look at Monk nerfs:

-Damage Mitigation lowered

LoL Deedrok, so you think

- FD nerf = mobs over lvl 35 remember people

didnt hurt monks than? Guess that says all about your comparsion. But than again you missed at least one of the biggest necro nerfs as well, that the lifetap line was unresistable.

By the way I think most of this nerfs to necros sucked. I know also, MANY necros retired because of those nerfs. And, last not least, necros have been the most powerfull class ever long time ago, and have been hell of a fun to play. Necros dont still have a problem to solo 1 to 60, right?

And, last not least, I dont see how this proofs that the monk nerf was not wrong, so ...

Sky

</p>

10-23-2002, 02:12 PM
Yes, necros are one of the most nerfed classes in the game. They are also still one of the best, if not still the best, solo class. That is why I am playing my necro more now. They also never ever got feedback on any changes that were made from a game designer (hmmm sound familiar?) but finally now they do have someone who reads and responds on their home boards, and those players feel at least they are listened to *and responded to with more than just "we are listening" which gives no real feedback whatsoever*.

</p>

10-23-2002, 04:57 PM
Sky,

I'm not defending the NERF BAT at all, it destroyed my MAINS class for a year or so. I actually dislike this WHACK as well...simply because Monks have NEVER been overpowered. I saw them as being very balance from the get go.

I'm just comparing one classes nerfs to another. And that the few that STAY PLAYING will not regret it. One nerf, no matter how bad, can entirely RUIN a class.

Yes, we CAN still solo to 60, but we were very intended to be a solo class, and it debateable if Monks were ever intended to solo 1 to 60. Just a FYI, its not FUN to solo 1 to 60 lol!!!

Simply look at our spells, 1 good grouping spell pre level 55 (degeneration, not a good one at that lol!), most necro spells are self-only as well. Monks, without uber twinkage (aka Fungi, Tsaff, etc), would have a very hard time to solo to 60.

One of the reasons I like Monks is because they are cool in groups. I haven't group a LOT being only level 19, but my MAIN has grouped with them. Deedrok DUO'd with a 60 Monk in Sebilis, and we held the entire exit camp. Not an UBERLY hard camp to hold, but impressive none the less. Monks DPS are amazing, simply amazing.

there i play a friar and a couple of others.

i was thinking bout coming back to eq but now i think i will just let the remainder of the paid for time expire as i don't have the heart to delete my guys.

I dusted off my 54 mage and I have really enjoyed him this past week. Over the past year Mages have been getting better, and I figured that I can tank no better than my pet so why not. I canceled my monk account. Level 57 monk with 2 yellow into the level. Got my arse handed to me by level 42 whelp in Chardok after nerf. That was just too much.

I never soloed. I made my Monk to tank for druid and chanter but after nerf, Monk was just dead weight. We all started our characters on the same day and we played together for two years.

Nice gear too! Fungi, RGB, SOS, Grey arms, etc. Gear goes with monk into /dev/null.

-Fysts (CT)

PS I play my necro now. High level necros RULE EQ. Best class in the game with 70% slow undead!

</p>

10-24-2002, 02:12 AM
I am very very close to quitting, unless i hear from my friends that PoP is just simply amazing best expansion yet by far blah blah blah. It is almost certain I will quit. I have canceled the accounts already but not sure what i plan to do with em, ie give the stuff away or sell it and split the palt between my friends.

As for my reasoning:

1. Class unplayable? My situation with college means I have to solo if I want to play, so yes unplayable

2. Time college is eating up a lot of my time since I am actually working at it now.

3. I am sick of Verant especially since this was such a huge nerf with no response at all when the pallys get a response almost immediately.

4. Leveling is getting old i am 57 right now and i have zero motivation to hit 58 let alone 60

5. Our guild is kind of dissolving atm since no one is really taking the time to show up at raids since we have been doing HoT for like the last 6 months so about half our 60s left.

6. My friends have also started quitting

7. I am sure there are other reasons just can't think of them.

Any suggestions on new games? (this has pretty much been my only game for 2 years) (talking anything like sports games, mmporgs, starcraft or warcraft type things, first person shooters etc etc)

I have quit EQ. I am sick and tired of all this "balance" crap. After 2 years of playing, VI decides to do this?? I guess VI thinks its worth losing a few hundred accounts.

</p>

10-24-2002, 11:26 AM
i have posted before that i think verant did this only because there are to many monks playing and they expect to lose some monks over it. they mostly expect that you will go play an alt and keeping paying them. when they had this problem with the druids they did the same thing and enough left that it cleared the deck of alot of alts and about a year later they "balanced" them back up and there fine now. just wonder what the results will be this time?

</p>

Sorry, but necros, cry me a river. My roommate plays a "nerfed" necro, and he can solo mobs that I have to FD from just if I see their shadow. None of the necro nerfs so altered the class that they had to totally change the way they played. Not just a tweak that required you to cast a spell more times than before, or keep a better eye on your pet, or be a little more wary and cautious about what and where you hunt. The monk nerf totally revamped the class, and ruined the style of play that thousands of players had developed over the past 3 years. Verant should refund the accounts of all the players who have monk mains, since the used a blatent bait and switch of the product they were selling.

Trying to compare the impact of each change simply by lining them up and seeing which is longer is pointless: necros were always overpowered compared to most other classes when it comes to soloing, monks were not.

I cancelled my accounts. I 'may' start playin' again if somethin' big happens for us, but if not they'll stay cancelled. We were overpowered? LOL. Shamans bein' able to solo a Jugg in Seb is overpowered. Druids bein' able to solo the mobs that drop their Elysian armor is overpowered. Necros bein' able to solo dragons is overpowered. Chanters bein' able to DC somethin' that FAR outdamages my 55 epic monk in the first place, and then SoS it, is overpowered. Druids and Wizards bein' able to kill 4 DB mobs at once for xp when I can't take one of 'em solo is overpowered. Me bein' able to solo a DB mob (maybe), and then bandage and mend up to full to go again is hardly overpowered. Just because monks were at the absolute bottom of the solo food-chain, and the couple classes that weren't even on the chain didn't like it, we got nuked.

Mal

PS: It's not just the monk nerf that's got me hoppin', I have a whack of other toons as well, including a 45 necro, a 43 cleric, 39 ranger, and high 20's / low 30's bard, druid, warrior, wizard. It's the whole idea of workin' on somethin' in good faith and then havin' the rules changed 3 years after the fact that's the main reason for me hitting the 'End Billing" button.

</p>

10-25-2002, 02:09 AM
It is simple. Too many monks that are not group friendly breaks the group rule that verant needs.

Verant breaks the monk class for a while to reduce the number of monks and we switch to other classes. We switch to alts. The funny thing is that I switched to another game and I HOPE EVERYBODY DOES THAT.

Isnt it nice to be a rat in an experiment?

-Fysts (average stuff on a 57 monk)

PS remember verant nerfed druid DOTs (if MOB is moving it gets 30% dmg) but then when druid population was reduced to acceptable levels they returned it.

PSS Monks will be returned to normal levels in 6 months if Verant gets what they want. Nice to be an addict isn't it.

I am not sure where you got those numbers?

Druids are not an issue. They are not melee.

Warriors? SK? Paladins? Rangers?

Just believe me. Verant is trashing up monk class to make us change to other melee classes. Verant did it with druids and necros, now monks get their turn.

In 6 months, we will get back tank ability if class numbers return to "acceptable" levels.

some of you wimpy ass monks need to toughen up. Oh they nerfed monks, I'm gonna quit. Puleezzzzz, just live with it, it ain't that bad and I tank in UP all the time. My ac is around 1100 buffed. I'm happy for all you monks that lived with this nerf and pressed on and adapted to this.

In the past, I used my shaman to PL my monk. Now I go to zones where my monk can still tank (KC? velks?) and use him to PL my shaman. I guess my shaman is now my main and not my monk, which is a switch. My hatred of VI is such that I have not yet bought PoP, nor will I ever buy any product from them ever again. Yet, I still haven't cancelled my accounts, so I'm still supporting the bastards, grrrrr.

I'm really looking forward to when EQ dies and someday there's a $15 copy of EQ: Personal Edition that you can run on your own server, play with your friends, and play however you want. Ah, to dream...

Peace.

Cancelled my 2 accounts tonight..

I'm not "mad as hell and not gonna take it any longer" or anything. It's just been a while since I've even logged on and I saw no sense in paying the monthly fee any longer.. Playing other games while waiting for SB and Eve Online to come out.

My leaving is only partly due to the nerf-monks spree of late, and partly due to just being ready to move on after 3.5 years of playing. The game is getting very stale.

Its getting more and more obvious to me that SOE is desparate to just keep people playing til SWG and/or EQ2 are released. SOE will never see another red cent of my money and with any hope none of my friends either. They have a complete lack of interest or respect for the average casual gamers. There are a lot of MMOGs out there or coming out soon, and I think as the market matures the emphasis on level/loot treadmills will decline.

I quitted

Yes, its only a game.

Games are defined by rules. If you change the rules, in the middle of a game its considered cheating.

Why would I ever want to play with a cheater?

The problem isn't the rules most of the time, it's not know what the rules will be tommorow.

"What happened to adapt and overcome?"

I guess you could say that moving on to other forms of entertainment is a form of adapting to the nerfs.

I've cancelled my three accounts. Like many, it's not what has been done - it's a complete unwillingness on my part to put any more large amounts of time into something that may completely change overnight. Time is the most expensive investment we make.

Sony lost both my accounts.

I didn't play much the past several months but the recent reduction of monk abilities assured me I'll never bother logging in again.

Didn't really cancel it for a protest move, game just isn't as much fun any more.

Retired my monk from play, I don't see the point in the class. Being 2nd best melee DPS (albeit trounced by archers, wizards and probably even pet classes) while being the worst tank with shit gear choices isn't what I signed up for.

I'd like to make a rogue, but I don't think I have the energy to level up another melee. Besides, the caster classes are looking awfully tempting at the moment.
