Sweet. I might not have to buy a new video card for my other computer.

Here are some code changes that have made it to Test recently that I think people might be interested in. They haven't all passed QA yet but if people want to go test things out before the next live update this is probably a good time to try them out:
-----------------------
* Auto Consent Group, Raid and Guild are now toggle buttons available in the Options window.
* The way EverQuest deals with INI files has been improved. Players on slower computers will notice this this most. Momentary framerate hitches that you may have noticed when opening bags or doing other things that caused INI files to be written out should be much improved.
* Loading optimizations have been made. We've seen some systems load the game as much as 12 seconds faster, but this will vary per system.
* Players no longer have to find a guild master to begin using new skills made available by reaching a new level.
* Spell hate for spells with a fixed amount of hate now include hate-focus effects. Previously, spells with fixed amount of hate assigned to them would disregard hate focus effects.
* Leadership and raid assist ranges now have the same distance rules as the /assist command.
* Accounts that do not have PoP or later expansions, but are eligible for veteran rewards, are now able to access them.
* A rendering problem with luclin models on older GeForce cards (1/2/4MX) has been corrected.
* Persistent general channels have been added that currently have General, Class and Current Region set up. There is an button in the options window to control whether or not you wish to auto join these channels.
* Fixed an old issue with AA timers not being initialized properly. Previously, any new activatable AA ability that has a reuse timer would have an uninitialized value which would sometimes prevent players from using it.
Cheers!

I think that the NPC guildmasters add color and backstory. I don't agree with this change.

Hm. With the new tutorial to level 10 and no need to visit guildmasters, the starting cities are going to be bigger ghost towns than they already are.
Everquest has changed, for better and for worse, but it is still Everquest.
If Freeport, Qeynos, Kelethin, Erudin, Kaladim, Felthwithe, Halas, Neriak, Ak'Anon, Oggok, etc. are not revitalized, the game will truly loose something.

I would agree as well, but, since the vast majority of the GM NPC's don't actually do anything but train you I don't see the need for them myself.

I am guessing the developers have struggled with this. The cat capital city seemed to be an attempt to breathe some life into a city. To try and make it seem alive and happening. Not that it worked.
As a suggestion I think they need to hire one of the writers from General Hospital or Days of our Lives (lol) to work on the cities. I fondly remember the storyline involved with Kelvin Diggs in Rivervale, his ex-wife in Misty Thicket and his new love working at the bar (which unfortuantly didn't go anywhere).

Show me one person who goes to their starting city to train a new skill, and I'll show you someone who doesn't know there are trainers in PoK...

I go to my NPC Trainers in Qeynos so that after they train me I can kill them.
It makes me all "moist" inside to watch them die.

Think they should do good vs. evil faction uprisings in all of the cities across Norrath, like one giant civil war... so you could choose a faction within a city and be given missions to kill certain opposing faction NPC's - and of course have plenty of extra guards
Would be fun to have a reason to crawl through the cities again.

I actually still use Freeport a lot. Its nice that I never killed guards there, so I have good faction still. Its especially nice to use Freeport because I took the trouble to get Origin so I can gate "home". I know where everything I need is. I don't lag like I do in PoK (at the bank for example). And if I need to go somewhere fast I just go to the PoK book like always.
On the training front, I have a few points left, but absolutely nothing left that I can train. All of my skills are at max except for blacksmithing ( 151 ), tailoring ( 158 ) and potting ( 170 ). Even beg. I also have all languages to 100.
If skills counted I'd be the best in EQ But at least getting them up filled a lot of empty hours while I was LFG.
Since the server merges I've had a lot more success getting groups... a very good thing.

I did such a lot of faction work across Antonica before Luclin came along - I got to non-KoS in most cities there - for a time was non-KoS to both Krom* and Coldain - then even got to non-KoS in Katta Castellum. Now, faction is practically irrelevent except when needed for a Quest, and I only visit the home cities is only done to top up or change Tribute. I don't even have Origin, because I got the Binden Concerrentia, and PoK is always more convenient than Cabilis.
What I look forward to MOST from this is the cross-zone invites. It will eliminate a lot of the pain of using 85% rule and things like corpse-summon chains (Plane of Sky, Plane of Air). If only I had a CotH capable Mage, it would make some other camps much more accessible too.

I always quite liked running back to a GM to train.
Ok it wasn't as good with other toons as the first time around, obviously, but still with travel as easy as it is now it couldn't be that much of a chore.
