EQ is still boring. You sit around the same camp the whole day, or sit around waiting for a group or raid.

You might want to check out whats new in console games or stand alone games.

Heh, well if ya got a PSP, go for Lumines... I swear that game has devoured my soul.

Tho I find consol games are always a good cooldown when it comes to MMORPG Burnout. It's just too much investment in games like WoW and EQ2, and too many people turn em into jobs. And remember, 'Work' is a 4-Letter Word.

So I'm officially done with WoW having cancelled my account and my username/pw not working on the MB anymore.

The game just couldnt keep my interests, I would re-roll a toon and then re-roll another one. Maybe it was because I was in a non-raiding guild and being of that mentality it was hard to just play casual. Who knows, but the fact remains that I cancelled.

What do I play now? I hated SOE for the things they did, but EQ is looking more and more like something I should go back and play. Guild Wars, I'm not sure.

Just offering this up to you all and see what feedback you have.

That may be, but I remember soloing a lot in EQ. WoW was the same, just a lot faster.

Quote:
You might want to check out whats new in console games or stand alone games.

Ive been playing my GBA SP a bit lately, I love the 18 bit RPG's. Golden Sun 1/2, Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced, Fire Emblem 2 etc.

Guess I just miss the love I had for EQ before it went to shit. Hopefully Vanguard will be the same on that respec. AND, hopefully I will be into my profession so as I can afford to pay for the monthly fees

Unless you're totally turned off by the concept, try City of Heroes. It's the most flexible MMO i've evr played. You can make it pretty much whatever you want it to be.

You could probably spend your entire free month with the character creator, and it would be more fun than going back to EQ.

What I was meaning was that, even soloing, you tend to just farm the same camp over and over and over. Some people chose to do that in WoW, but in EQ its pretty much the only effective way to accomplish anything.

I suspect if you got bored of it before, its not likely to do much better for you now.

EQ: All the fun of a bridge club, without all the fast paced excitement!

OK ok, I'm just looking for trouble with that one

I suggest you take a break from MMRPGs all together. If you are sick of WoW then, jumping into another probably isn't a good idea. As your opinion of the new game may be colored by your WoW experience.

Hunt around for some stand alone games (RPGs).

Try Knights of the old Republic II.

CoH is boring.

Battlefield 2 is the best mp co-op game i've ever played.

CoH is a good dope around game. Can be fun, but can also be boring, depending on how you play it.

I like CoH just due to the fact it's one of the few MMO's that really makes you feel like a hero and does the 1 vs many successfully.

WHY?

You can blame good ol' EQ and UO for that one where their game doesn't even *start* until you're lvl 60 (or current max-ish).

Cause of these, MMO players tend to blow through the lower level game and then hit a brick wall when they find out in WoW there isn't a "game" at lvl 60. Nothing like the lower level.

I think WoW can definatly benefit from a Planes of Power type expansion. I know many people didn't like PoP, but honestly I think PoP was one of the best expansions ever released in EQ (end game). What hurt PoP was the poor flag requirement/setups.

I didn't try plow through the levels with WoW...I had no choice but to plow through the levels. Even brand new to the game, I had to make choices on what continents to even explore because the leveling curve was so fast. So, I made an alt so I could do different things...with the same effect. Even Alliance side with all its polish was like that.

This game has way too much immersion for the leveling curve to be this way.

CoH is fun, but it's most definatly not as diverse as WoW, in my book. CoH feels highly repititious to me. Only 3-4 types of missions and nothing more. Fights (solo) are always 2-3 per. (almost) Never is there any chance of getting "adds" with pulls in CoH. All villians are human(oid)s. Fights, for me, always turned into the same old range attacks, firing the same attacks at the same time in the same order. Still feels repititious if I attempt AEs (as an Ice Blaster, that's a challenge. ). While it's fun, definatly not benefitial in solo fights.

Don't me wrong though, CoH is definatly a fun game. It's mulit vs 1 design really does make you "feel" like a real Hero. But I can't find myself being a "dedicated" CoH player due to the extensive repitition within it.

and millions disagree that wow is boring..shrug

the problem with wow is.. us experienced mmo people TEND to plow thru the game afap to reach 60th.

WHY?

wow is best taken in moderation

i still play almost exclusively my shaman - who is 60th level

my quest queue is FULL..

i've tried alterac valley and love the concept& the zone, and it is much more fun to get in on the START of one of them- your teamwork MEANS ALOT at the start.

wow is the largest mmo in the world currently..if you include korea.

it is the #2/#3 mmo in korea depending on the week...and who you talk too...well #2 is/was lineage- lineage2 just past it i think...and lineage had a million users...

IF wow has those numbers in korea....plus the 1.5 million outside of korea....

I tried Guild wars on a whim, and its perfect for me..

ATM my ability to get online is drastically different from day to day and even week to week

It can be up to a month before I am over at my gf's or dad's house (only 2 places I go with broadband) and have enough free time to jump online, much less jump into a MMOG.

So for a while there when I was trying to keep my wow acct going I was just throwing a way money, but with GW there is no subscription rate so I don't have to worry about it.

once a connection becomes available at my new house I plan to jump back into the more serious MMORPG's

I didn't find CoH boring - I'd still be playing it if WoW hadn't come out. I wish it had come out a year earlier and I had played it rather than wasting my time with SWG.

WoW isn't for powergamers - and personally I can't wait for Vanguard to come out so the powergamers go away and leave WoW to the people who enjoy it.

I recommend Starcraft (and expansion). That's my current "I don't feel like logging into WoW" game. Good for 20-30 hours of playtime, by the end of which you'll probably have figured out what else you'd like to play.

I was looking into Battlefield 2 and saw the comp req's. Dang!

I was really hoping to be able to play on my laptop, but doesnt look possible with those req's, so puts a damper on whether or not I buy the game I think

Played EQ for 5 years, never got really bored, raids were exciting and fun.

WOW for about 6 months now, game is boring, raids are boring.

My guild moved over to WoW and left EQ without an infrastructure for me.

So I moved along to WoW as well, but i'd rather be playing EQ still when it comes down to it

But all my friends are in WoW so.......

Quote:
Played EQ for 5 years, never got really bored, raids were exciting and fun.

Ain't that the truth. I got bored with EQ a couple times (at like the 2-year and 4-year mark), but after about a month off that problem was always fixed.

The other choice quote, in my opinion:

Quote:
You can blame good ol' EQ and UO for that one where their game doesn't even *start* until you're lvl 60 (or current max-ish).

Cause of these, MMO players tend to blow through the lower level game and then hit a brick wall when they find out in WoW there isn't a "game" at lvl 60.

That's the primary difference; in the old days, 1-60 (or 65) in EQ took a long time, and really were like a whole different game than after you maxed out. But in that case, hitting max level led to a game that was almost more fun, because then you could start on AAs (which rewarded you more frequently anyway, at least in the beginning) and start doing the many different 70-man raid targets with your guild.

When you max out in WoW, char advancement that's not loot related goes to...zero. And there's a diverse array of...one raid zone to choose from, and it repops once per week.

Problem solved.

I think what we're slowly realizing is that Blizzard didn't design WoW for hardcores; if they did, they wouldn't have so many people burning out after so short a time. It's obvious that they learned from their predecessors; just look at how fun the game is 1-60. I think that it would be a mistake to assume that Blizzard made an accidental error in this case; I think they intentionally designed a game that doesn't cater to the hardcore gamer at all.

Let's define a casual player as one who takes a significant period of time to achieve level 60 (if at all), and then decides it would be fun to start another toon in a different class (probably on the other side).

For this player, the game never loses its appeal. The leveling-up process is a bunch of fun, and going to the higher-level dungeons for the first couple times from 55-60 is great. And once the player gets that far, they'll just start up a new char and have another great experience.

For hardcores though, the game provides one real raid zone (MC) for 40 people that respawns every 1 week. That is incredibly thin. The other main attraction for hardcores, the PvP, wasn't actually even introduced until after 6+ months of the game being live; obviously not a priority for the game during launch.

All the signs point to the game being structured for those who, once hitting 60, decide to make another character. I'll be interested to see if the expansion pack broadens the game to include the hardcores, or continues to focus on the current system and just draw in new members, rather than trying to retain the old ones.

This could be true Namsun, although I would hope WoW increases the end game a bit more.

The disappointing aspects is that Blizzard said that there will be plenty of end game content upon release. There wasn't. I do think Blizzard slightly underestimated the average speed of leveling just as much as they've underestimated the popularity of the game.

I do hope that the expansion focuses on raid content. The game's plenty solid in the lower levels. How they need to focus on the higher ones (ie guild level stuff).

Planetside! Only $20 now with a month and it's the only game I played where a noob can play with someone the highest level. To be honest the game is about 1,000 times better in a good outfit. There are always some recruiting but it's a crap shoot. I find mine to be a lot of fun and it's nice to join a battle, have an objective and see if effect the big fight. Plus a game where you can log in, shoot someone and log off is always nice. The best part though is there are no NPC's, if you kill someone there is a person on the other end picking their spawn point. I think it's great and it mixes well with WoW for me.

I recently gave up on WoW also, after getting to level 58 and having no urge to level the rest of the way up. Since then, I've been playing a lot of console games... and having a blast haha.

A couple days ago I dug out my old SNES and now I'm replaying Legend of Zelda, then I'll probably beat Donkey Kong Country, and maybe Super Mario.... I swear, all these old games are super addicting.

Another good game is Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2 for Xbox... each of those you could play twice through for a total of like 120 hours.

Believe it or not, I have been playing Swg and having a hoot. The Star Wars mania this summer has hit my household. Lucasarts and SOE knew that they would get a mixture of new subs and old retired ones, so they did some major rewriting of the game.

Now the reward is so high for grouping, you won't want to solo like you did earlier. One of my biggest gripes with the game was that no one ever fought alongside each other. There was no reason to, because with a full set of 90% composite and doctor buffs, you could beat anything in the game.

Since I left, they have also added in the space expansion and a new expansion involving ep. 3. The best part is that under the new jedi system put in place, I didn't lose out under the old system. They gave me credit for all my old holo-grinding, so I logged back in and was 33% of the way to jedi.

I unlock my jedi in a month. No idea if I will continue to play after that (because of the bounty hunters chasing me down), but right now I am having a blast.

I'm still loving WOW. Played to 60 as a warrior and 40 as a hunter on one server and I'm now 50 as a rogue on another with a 34 priest as backup. For the times that I want to game and it's down, or I'm not feeling WOW'ish.... check out the PS2 game called God of War. Insanely violent, awesome boss fights, and just all 'round a blast to play.
