View Full Version : Monk rants?
Hi, I retired as a level 60 monk on Xegony. I have soloed, I have raided, I have grouped, I have been puller, I have been tank, and I have been damage dealer.
For what reasons did I play a monk? Seriously? There was no reason not to play a monk.
1. At level 50 in leather armor I had higher AC than most level 60 warriors. At 60 I was about 150 AC ahead of a warrior with comparable level gear.
2. I could solo better than any other melee class in the game. (Beastlords werent around yet)
3. Safe fall, Sneak, mend, Feign death, disarm, riposte, block, dodge
4. I could outdamage every other melee class with the exception of rogues (but would outdamage them if they couldnt get behind NPC)
5. I was welcomed by nearly any group / raid to either pull, tank, or if worse came to worse <GASP> just do mega-damage
Things that would have made me better:
1. Taunt button
2. No weight limit
3. More hitpoints
4. Spells
Yeah 4 sounds ridiculous but you all seem to need to have everything so why not add spells in there?
So one of a few things needed to happen to make the game more "balanced"
1. Raise everyone with chain+ mitigation / avoidance AND raise the damage NPCs did
2. "Nerf" monk mitigation / avoidance
3. Give monks a taunt button and plate armor and convert all warriors into monks
I wanted to come post this a few weeks ago when the "fix" was first implemented but didnt feel like having my head ripped off. As a monk considering the OVERALL GAME . . . ie. NOT JUST MONKS this change sucks but was necessary to bring things back into line. Before this change the only reason not to play a monk was because you didnt want to be like everyone else
EDIT: oops added hide in there, guess that makes everything else I said completely pointless

So the bulk of your experience with the monk class and its balance versus the rest of the game was predominantly BEFORE Luclin came out?
And you're now addressing these changes to a community of monks running around the planes of justice and valor getting their posteriors handed to them in nice neat little packages?
I guess I'm not really sure I see your point.

How long have Monks had Hide? And how many 60th Monks would make the mistake of listing Hide?
You perhaps play a Wood Elf Monk to 60th?

Wht is 'comparable' here - perhaps a twinked out NToV, or Uber Vellious BP vs Warrior Cobalt armor? This is UTTER BS if the gear was indeed 'comparable'; please go Troll somewhere else. Or are we talking Iksar Monk vs Gnome Warrior (and even then I highly doubt the accuracy of this statement).

Scalemane, I'm glad you have had such a happy time with your monk, but like Chilau I don't agree with you completely. A post like yours is what makes VI make it even harder on us monks who really don't have it too easy as it is. We play the same game, but we're in two different worlds. Please bear in mind, that when you want balance in your world of demi-gods, the world of mortals that I'm in gets messed with in exactly the same way - except the impact is much bigger.
I will certainly not try to convince you not to bring forth your observations, but I would like you to look a bit further than just outside your own door.
Balance should not be based on monks who have (very nearly) reached a monk's full potential in equipment, skills and stats - playing skill excluded.
Rap.

That's the best joke I heard in a loooong time.
Let's see now. At lev 52 i have about 985 ac unbuffed when I have changed all gear to get as high as possible, within my limited funds.
Sooooooo, most lev 60 warriors have arounf 950 ac then?
Yea, sure!

Jondalar, are you aware of that a warrior with similar equipment to you would be at about 150 ac less then yourself? Getting to 985 ac as a level 52 warrior requires expensive gear or raiding for nodrop armors.
The simple reason is that monks gets more shown ac out of the same raw ac on items.

What he stated was that he at lev 50 had higher AC then most lev60 warriors.
That's what I found funny. I don't believe a word of it.
We have no lev 60 warriors in my guild, but all 50+ warriors have higher AC than I do. And all of them tank far better than I did before patch. And we are not a raiding guild, so there is no uber equipment on any of us.

Znail,
For your consideration. Since warriors don't have a weight restriction, the world of armor options at similar price ranges opens wide. For almost every single slot the jondalar has filled, I can find a warrior wearable item that weighs more, costs less, and has more AC.
SLOT Jondalar Warrior
Face Mempo of Likato Stained Cloth Mask
-both have ultravision, and 6 ac, but stained mask has 20hp, resists and costs next to nothing.
Head Froglok Crown Incardine Helm
12 AC and resists 19 AC and stats
Wrist Acrylia Re Wrist Black Ice Wristguard
8 ac 3 str 3mr 12 ac 4 str 4 dex
Chest Acrylia Re Tunic Acrylia BP
14 ac 10 str 10sta 30 ac 5 str 15 hp
Arms Azure Sleeves Cold Steel Vambraces
12 ac 18 ac
Additionally, a 52 non-twink warrior has much more cash than a 52 non-twink monk, given similar days played on each character. The weight limit severely cripples the amount of loot the monk receives in both cash and drops. Post level 30, almost all monks request autosplit be turned off. Monks cannot pick up loot that drops because it weighs them down, not to mention that they're typically out pulling while others are doing the alpha loot cycle. The only hope is that the monk is in a group with trustworthy people who will "donate" some of the drops to the monk after the party splits up. So basically what I'm saying is even though those 2 acrylia chest pieces cost 1200-2000pp, it took me alot longer to save up for 14 ac off of DL drops than it would take a warrior to save up for their 30 ac breastplate.
Please don't feel attacked. Just pointing out something that I feel is often overlooked. Just like with any class and when considering nerfs, the twinks distort the image. This is true no matter what the class. Put a fungi on a level 1 anything and he'll be an overpowered melee. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)">

Lidayne, if you have a mage or shaman friend then you can have free 100% weight reduction bags to put loot in. Its also not a problem iwth carrying some extra wieght temporarily if you get awared a realy valuable loot item. So there realy isnt a reason to asume a warrior will afford 5 times as expensive armors.
But the real kicker is that the warrior with the armors you suggest will have less AC then Jondalar.
