View Full Version : Pop and a Monks Role

Before the introduction of PoP I thought that the Monk nerf only affected my soloing capabilities. I normally duo with a Cleric and we have hunted together since we were 13 and we both are now 61. Prior to the nerf a Monk/Cleric duo was a solid hunting team. We could set up in various zones and be able to handle one or sometimes two mobs. After the nerf the tougher mobs required more mana to heal me and she no longer could time her Cheals as the random nature of taking damage changed. Now that PoP is out and we both have Dinged 61 a lot of our duoing camps are not viable options. So off to PoP to try and Duo there. Not to our surprise most mobs we could not handle as a duo as the damage I take it is too random sometimes minimal damage sometime max damage. Pulls in PoP not really needed a well balanced group of 6 can handle most 2 mob pulls so the need for a Monk is significantly reduced. As for CR's not needed as VI has conveniently provided for a means of accomplishing a safe CR- Just wait for your corpse to be automatically sent to the graveyard. So what is our role and purpose? I have still have not figured that part out in the PoP environment. I have found a significant reduction in the group offers in PoP and tend to sit around for longer periods of time looking for a group. Bottom line is I am unclear where this nerf will eventually take my character of choice and will continue to try and gain exp to make this char a viable and wanted member of a group. As of right now Monks tend to be left out as we no longer can stand toe to toe with any PoP mob.

While I do not wish to sound as if I am whining but the loss of a playing style for 3 years and the good friendship with my hunting partner is now in jeopardy. As I said before I will continue to strive to upgrade my Monk usefulness, but the picture is bleak. Thanks VI for the balance as you may have balanced us right out of the game.

Dartain,

The amount of hunting spots that become light blue at 61 is quite long. I'm afraid that unless your hunting partner is a Shaman of similar level you will encounter a lot of difficulties. I'm hoping some spots are discovered in POP where we can at the very least duo with friends.

Obviously the recent monk nerf doesn't help us at all.

I believe Verant want us to use to /raid command exclusively for PoP. Well, a bit of an exaggeration but you get the idea.

You arent gonna have much luck dou'ing with a cleric in PoP. I firmly believe you MUST have a slower in your group in the PoP zones, they just hit too fast. Too bad you didnt make buds with a shammy. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/tongue.gif ALT=":p"> thats not good enough either cause you still need a cleric the sham cant heal good enough.

I form pickups to the planes when i play. we dont start until there is a cleric and a slower. that will get you fast steady xp, anything else will have lots of downtime between pulls with a chance of wiping even.

So far there's access for the general peeps to Disease, Justice, Innovation and Nightmare.

Sounds to me like you're just hitting the wrong plane is all.

Yay I can now use my FD skill the way Verant intended..constantly while xping and uselessly while pulling.

I have had mobs nuke me on Incoming..while someone else was pulling.

I have had 3 other taunting meleers on a mob before me and had the mob pummeling me after my first round of melee.

I have FD'd on average 3 times per fight even with SKs tanking.

The zones are full of wandering mobs so FD just makes a mess of pulling.

The pulling/aggro radius is beyond my summoned shurks so they are useless.

I relegate pulls to sks and necs. Need a bow or spell to pull safely.

Whatever though..EQ is in decline stage

..look at how easy this expansion made it to get around to any city. VI never wanted that now it's there.

This is the 'xp group' expansion. Just gobs of plain mobs everywhere to kill for xp, no hunting involved, VI never wanted that.

Apocolyptic signs that the quality control is gone and they are already planning the news releases on how they have succeeded in surpassing the #1 MMORPG of all time with their second product.

Basically giving the majority of the player base exactly what it wants; nerfed monks, easy travel, gobs of easy to find mobs, these are indicators the good times are soon over.

I have been playing with my guildmates in PoN. It just so happens that we LOVE to play with unconventional groups. For a while, we were xping with 2 monks, a bard, and a paladin, and we would experience minimal downtime. Basically we would rotate MTs. When the 4th person is done tanking a mob, the 1st melee will have full health (from bard regen) Of course, we would use the pally to do group heals during that time as well. Once we add in an additional monk or rogue, we are basically killing non stop.

I am able to duo or trio most general planes with a shaman and another melee quite successfully.

I've had no problem whatsoever pulling just about anywhere in PoP that I've tried. In fact, I think FD pulling there is much easier than in prior releases. I've rarely seen 'linked' mobs that always aggro together and always return to bind together. I've been able to FD-off aggro from wanderers usually just in 2-3 FDs. So far the only thing I've seen thats hard to split is has been chain casting mobs... but they are a pain anywhere.
