View Full Version : So, what is the game like?

I know, this has been asked a million times over, but I have a couple very specific questions.

A friend of mine and I were talking the other day. The subject of longevity came up and it got me to thinking. How much "playability" do you see in WoW? Will the game run out of steam too quickly? From a level advancement standpoint (from what youve seen already) does it look like the experience rolls too fast and you will be able to breeze through the game too quickly?

I know it's a major balance issue, EQ just made leveling too slow, and other games made it too fast. Does WoW break the barrier and find the middle ground? I agree with alot that I like the feeling of advancement, yet, wonder if the game will be "too easy".

How about the size of the game world? In comparison to EQ (at any stage), how big is Azeroth? Say...compared to Antonica, or Antonica+Kunark, or Antonica+kunark+odus etc.. or would it be more closely related to the size of DAoC when it was released (which was quite a bit bigger than original EQ was when it released when you consider all 3 realms combined).

Basically, im a fan of huge game worlds. Being able to travel from one end of the map to the other in 30 minutes on foot doesnt give me the feeling of "realism". While some people hate it, I would actually prefer to have a game world that took me 3 hours to cross on foot, or 30 to 45 minutes to cross via mass transportation, as long as the game isnt filled with alot of barren wasteland in between and there is something to do every step of the way.

So, if you were to travel from one end of the map to the other (if you could do it on foot), how much time we talking? How big are the zones? Are they pretty small (like east commons size) or are they rather large (like dreadlands, karana, Firiona Vie).

Was just curious about how much playability this game had in it is all. I know that before the Shrouded Isle expansion, the PVE aspect of DAoC fizzled out fairly quickly as the places to hunt for good xp were kind of limited.

Lastly, has anyone gotten into the PVP aspect of it yet? I'm kinda curious on how this will play out. The one thing I REALLY enjoyed about DAoC was the RVR. More specifially, keep sieges/defense and that sort of thing. Those were very fun. Does WoW seem to promise a PVP game with as much fun value as DAoC did?

Levelling really is a backseat to fun, truly honestly. If you're having fun, levels are a bonus. Having said that, I expect the levelling to be just as hard as EQ, but I expect it to feel half as hard.

Too fun often feels too easy. For example, I buy a new game, bring it home, and beat it in a weekend. Or read a book in 6 hours. Was it too easy, or just so damn engrossing that I found myself unable to leave?

I think WoW is progressing toward a good difficulty level. It is important to see how the end game balance works, and how much tactic is involved, and how fun that makes the encounter.

Don't know DAOC. And honestly it's hard to say without knowing all the available areas. I'd say it's pretty huge at the moment. Size really doesn't matter, it's content though. For example, for a while there people would've been happy with 5 LDON camps, and the bazaar. Still, the game is huge as it stands right now.

More like Dreadlands.

There's promise of PvP in a new way. It hasn't been exposed yet.

as to the size of the zone, it depends on what zone you are in some are smaller than others....

the barrens - west to east - takes about 6-7 minutes to run across and north/south takes about 12 minutes or so...

ashenvale took me about 15 minutes to run thru overall (discounting the 6 death runs)
