View Full Version : My suggestion to Verant
Since I highly doubt they will fix Monk damage mitigation back to its previous level, I did a /feedback and suggested that they add a new AA skill in PoP specificly aimed at monks (although useable by all) that would allow you to train a skill making all armor, bags, money and other items lighter by 5% per level trained. Though it wouldnt make up for the mitigation loss, it would allow a monk to pick from slightly heavier items with better stat bonuses and such. If this sounds like a good idea, I suggest others make the same request. (Consider it this way, if you are over your weight limit, getting back under it will gain you a large chunk of AC you otherwise didnt have.)

The drawback here thoough would be that all the lower lvls not able to be spending AA points are still over nerfed do to them useing the "uber all/all geared monk as a base line for the class wide nerf.
but i do like the idea =)

Perhaps the question should be; is the weight restriction still reasonable from a game play point of view?
Granted for RP it makes sense for monks to be restricted, and as part of class balance pre-nerf it was perfectly reasonable. Now that monks are as gear dependant as any other class, it seems to cause even more problems for the mid levels than anything.
1. Cannot loot vendor trash without some serious WR packs.
2. Cannot wear just any "leather" class items, they also have to be light. Further restricting options.
3. Cannnot upgrade lightweight gear without buying from players as most is either tradeskill or 50+ mob drop.
Mid levels are face with either the expensive tradeskill or mob drop upgrades and no reasonable way to make money other than farming low level junk in a handful of zones, or playing the bazaar buy/sell game.
Without the weight limit, mid levels have access to a wider selection of equipment and a better income.
Just something to think on.

I think the weight redux AA skill would be great at 61+ but like you said, it would more benifit people below 60 (I know I had a hard time getting my weight under the limit before 60!). While I doubt they would make a change in the weight limits for monks, I would think they might add an AA skill to make the gear and items you wear/carry lighter (some sort of planar godlike weight reduction sort of thing going on) and as such it would open up a few more options for lesser equipped monks who are at or above the weight cap while "uber" monks are probably already under the weight cap because all "uber" items are 0.1wt anyhow. They would get no benifit from this AA while other monks would. At least thats how I see it...
A 5% redux in "total" weight of a monk at 25 stone would bring them down below the 24 stone cap 60+ while a 26 stone monk would be just barely over the weight limit still but not so much over that it would kill their AC as bad. Perhaps offer 5 levels of this skill to redux up to 25% of weight capacity, once per level over 60. Sounds fair to me...

I agree that altering weight restrictions does not address the impact to all of our young brothers out there. I can't count how many FS weapons I let others loot and how much silver, gold and plat I threw away over the levels. All for the sake of keeping my weight down.
... Heck, I was a monk I had no need for expensive gear. I had no need for plat. Those that need to purchase heavy armor and spell casting aids can loot. I will go search out the next mob ...
This recent change was a class defining change that has had a significant impact on the essence a monk. The new definition of a noob monk is be twinked or be gimp. The weight restriction doesn't allow a monk to be a loot whore. A monk's class specific and/or level appropriate armor wasn't design for the reduced damage mitigation a monk now has.

Yea, the weight cap makes monks "poor" because we cant go looting everything and selling it to a vendor for plat. And now that lower level armor is only good enough to make you a gimp monk, having the plat for higher end gear is necessary. I dunno about you all but I cant go farm up a ton of plat and junk to sell just to go upgrade my gear. And camping gear drops is often out of the question too. Its been made into an impossable system for monks who arent already "well equipped". In my opinion i have a fairly good set of armor and it cost a good deal of plat, but compared to a higher end monk, i'm just a gimp.

Heh, kinda funny that an effect VI wanted from this nerf was for us to buy more AA's to make up. Hell i dont know about the uber monks but now and before i didnt have trouble keeping under the limit.
