Ok, i just upgraded my sterio to a panasonic SC-AK510 (http://catalog2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ModelDetail?storeId=11251&catalogId=11005&itemId=63401&catGroupId=11131&modelNo=SC-AK510&surfModel=SC-AK510)
anyway. the way i had it set up is as follows (and yes, i know my room is a bit over the top)
http://home.comcast.net/~justanotherbody/room1.jpg
anyway, when i started the right speaker was literally touching the right moniter. i turned the stero on and the moniter because distorted. I move the speaker about 3 inches away and ALL distortion dissappeared (even extra darkness) but to be safe i moved it as far left as i can
will the magnetic field damage either moniter (given the distances i have left between them) or my TV?
also, ive got an xbox right below the main unit of the stereo, and a computer tower.
ill set some pictures up in a few hours, dad is using the computer w/ the digital camera hookup
anyway, do stero speakers make much horizontal and or vertical magnetical fields? last thing i need is all my electronics getting fried
thanks much,
Mike

i have a set up similar to that for the past 2 or 3 years and i havent had any issues.
basically its an entertainment center, the tv is on the left, stereo is on a shelf to the right, i put an xbox dreamcast n64 underneath, and on top i had my dvd player, center and L/R speakers.
then on my other side of the bedroom i have my monitor, with two smaller front speakers and the computer about 2ish feet from the monitor on my desk. although, when i turn on my flourescent lamp when its near my monitor my monitor image gets all fucked up... so obviously i keep it away from the monitor.
i had my computer set up like that for a good 3 years as well w/ no issues. at one time i had my little sub right underneath my computer desk directly below my monitor. and for about 2 years i had my big 12" sony sub for my stero to the leftof my desk.
edit - oh yeah, and when i had my computer desk across from my entertainment center i also had two satelite speakers mounted on the wall at head height while sitting.
edit2 - i like how u have monly business open on your comp =P

A little something about EMIs. (http://www.pcguide.com/care/care/gen/envEMI-c.html)

Quote:
Devices that emit electromagnetic radiation should be kept a reasonable distance from your PC, peripherals and media. This includes television sets, radios, lights, kitchen appliances, and stereo speakers (the ones designed for use with PCs are generally shielded and are much less of an issue).

(Emphases are by me.)
Since your stereo and TV are probably not designed for use with your PC, just based on that info, I'd probably move them even further away. You might not be able to see interference anymore, but there could still be waves that will reduce the life of all your products. My monitor is very affected by EMI, so I try to keep things that produce it a few feet away, or under objects that can help reduce EMI.
By the way, I believe your manual has a "placement" section that advises to keep your stereo system away from EMI, too.
Hey, you posted that picture. The first thing you'll see happen with your current setup is that your left speaker's going to blow out your TV over time.
All things considered, I would try to move the stereo system away from the TV and computer ASAP, or at least move the speakers across the room.

Kdardac - If your speakers were shielded, you wouldn't have any problems. I had a speaker on top of my monitor once, and although it was shielded, it started to slowly distort. So, I moved it away, and have had no problems.

the placement guide says keep the speaker 1cm away from the stero for ventilation purposes.
it also says the front speakers arent magnetically shielded. should i assume that means the entire speaker box?
as for moving the speakers away... its not really possible in my room. there anything i can stick between the TV and left speaker to stop the EMI from getting to it? (other than solid lead). im pretty sure the TV is safe from the right speaker. not quite sure how im going to move the moniter away...
the computer on the left (the one you can barely see) i intend to move soon... where im not sure, but 2 computers in my room is a little excessive, and i current cant fully open my closet because the table it sits on is in the way!

Basically, just keep stuff as far apart as possible. If you're getting distortion, then its way too close. If you're not, well, it may still be too close but you've got more time.
