View Full Version : OMG the misconceptions I am reading here.

It seems that a lot of monks are blind to the real effects of this nerf. I keep reading post after post of various monks screaming about how nasty this nerf was (and yes I got hammered by it too). But what is starting to urk me a little is the monks who are saying "What nerf? Everything is the same to me."

In almost a case by case basis I am seeing the later monks fall in one of 2 categories. One, they have some truely uber gear and are WELL above the attack level for the mobs that they are fighting (this has already been established). Or two, they are monks who are tanking slowed mobs (IE pocket shaman, etc).

Why is this making a difference in their point of view about the nerf? Very simple. We discovered that Verant nerfed our mitigation and thus we get smacked around for more damage (increase in average hit + spikes of higher overall damage). The average seems to vary somewhat depending on who did the parsing. Just for shits and giggles lets say its 10% more average damage per hit. If your mob is not slowed, he is gonna get in a LOT more hits and you are gonna see max hits a lot more often. If your mob is slowed then that +10% is gonna be a trivial couple hundred points of damage.

An unslowed (and god forbid hasted) mob doing +10% on each and every friggin hit is gonna hurt bad in just a few rounds of combat. The damage over time will just get worse and worse. The more hit points a mob has the worse the solo monk will see this nerf hit them.

"Monks shouldnt solo"

I think is what VI will reply.. We are a leather class. And so far been "too good". Once again VI brings "ballance" to the game!

I just wished we got something back for it. As we now are more dependant on being in group. It would be fair some of our class abilities got improved. Or in other words more specialized in allready what we are specialized in

from monks i've talked in the vt type guilds with the 1500+ ac they not feeling this nerf they way they high end non vt monks with 1200-1300 ac feeling it . Personally i don't like to solo on monk but it's pretty lame when i have trouble farming low blues for trade skill drops.

We were in ntov this weekend and I died at least 8-10 times over my normal 1-2 deaths there. This nerf is ridiculous it's not doing what it was intended to do or it's just promoting a bigger gap between the lower-middle-high end guild monks.

Glad Pallies can cry piss moan and get their nerf "stein" removed!

Monks are still fine.

Still soloing.

Still add tanking / tank mezzing.

Still even MTing when needed in NToV (nonflurries)

We never have been as good at tanking UBER mobs and still are not. No big deal it just takes a slightly more skilled healer to make adjustments for us.

I do agree however that VI should have done something that only effects the top 5% of monks of which this nerf was made necessary.

I don't think it's so much VI wanting to take monks out of their role as we are now. I think it's more an attempt to adjust BEFORE the PoP AAs and gear go live so things don't get too out of hand.

Hang in there monks. I was pissed about the nerf also but ....

VI loves monks or they wouldn't have made such a great, fun, and uber class.

lol I got 101 AAs and approaching 1400ac raid buffed so take it how you will. Some will say, because of my gear and AAs, that I can't relate. You are right. I can't relate to your exact problem but .... I do know there is light at the end of the tunnel because I wasn't horribly effected by the nerf. Just slightly.

Keep grinding and subscribe to guild raiding and getting the rest of your guildmates skillz up to speed, coordinated, and controlled. The gear and AAs will come for you.

When they do.. you will love your monk.

I surely do.

Of course your not if what we are all reading is right (and it sounds accurate).

Monk with 1400 AC + were almost unaffected .. so you wouldnt feel it.

Monks around 1100-1150AC (namely me right now) have felt it .. but in my case I wasnt too alarmed by it .. it shows .. my soloing ability has dropped a bit .. but its still managable.

Monks with less than 1000AC seem to have taken the worst of it. Sounds like they are now squishy damage dealers.

I think that sums up the last few days of posting.

"Keep grinding and subscribe to guild raiding and getting the rest of your guildmates skillz up to speed, coordinated, and controlled. The gear and AAs will come for you."

This leaves out the great majority of monks, that do not wish to grind forever and ever or will never become uber. IE the casual player, which is the majority NOT the minority.

Also, I have to keep grinding to get back the power I once had after ++ years??? NOT

I hit lvl 60, and to have to keep experience grinding for AA's makes me weiry, ill, sick, want to PUKE!

Grinding is all part of this time sink called EQ.

BTW I don't have 1400+ ac, I said approaching 1400ac and thats fully raid buffed. It's more like 1360ish maybe a lil more.

146 days played on this character.

Level 60 with 101 aas. Never twinked, PL'd, or dual boxed.

Never owned a fungi and still do not.

When I started this monk, a fungi was only possessed by the most uber and the weapons out there were not like they are now. There is so much more armor and weapons that those of us coming before you didn't have and likewise the monks before me. So, this nerf likely puts leveling exactly or close to where it was when we were leveling our monks.

Just deal with it. It gets better.

Not sure what to say Ralladar. I am not an uber monk. I am 54th level. I can break 1000 ac with self buffs from CFs and SOD. I come close to 2k hps. I don't have a fungi or a T-staff. I do not dual box. I don't have anything in my pockets but some lint and a few coins and that throws my weight all of the time. I haven't noticed any changes in my ability to solo. I have not been on a raid since the changes, so I can't speak on that matter. Maybe there is a hole in the system that I fit in?

For the purpose of this arguement:

I 5box (sham, monk, cler, druid,bard)

I have 5414hp, 1226ac, 1336atk buffed

I tank, I pull, I deal damage

Monks got screwed.

I'll NEVER solo again.

Pulling got nerfed pretty good too.

Please, disable my FD key, let the SK's have it.

Please give me more offense so I'm not feeling like a weak low HP warrior.
