Sound Problem

Well, my computer was just working fine. Recently, my sister and her friends went on and did instant messenger for a couple hours...



Well anyway, after they were done I tried to restart and got errors in almost every application trying to close on Windows Me. When I finally clicked enough, it restarted and has no sound. It also runs really slow now.



This has happened before with my sister and I think I am just going to have to reformat again. But anway, anyone have tips for getting sound to work again?

First, make sure it isn't muted. This is usually the case.



Then, like any hardware device, reinstall the latest drivers.



If it still doesn't work then you'd spend more time doing other troubleshooting than just formatting/reinstalling.

Time to whip up the trusty virus scanner. Check if the thing is running in the first place, as the first target of the virii/worms are to disable the scanners themselves. Try to log on your virus scanners website and get the latest definitions, to my experience - virii/worms will try stop that too.



Nothing more scary than running a virus compromised machine into the internet. Even with a firewall like zonealarm, one never knows what the machine is trying to give away <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/mad.gif ALT=">:">
