View Full Version : Disconnected after char select

09-01-2003, 01:42 AM
I keep getting disconnected after the selecting my character & clicking "enter world". The game loads for a short period then I get the "You have been disconnected" message. Then I get dumped back to the server select screen.

I have checked the knowledge base at the SOE site & have also tried deleting all my UI files & downloading them again (have only ever used the standard UI).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This can also be caused by a driver glitch. Try reinstalling both your video card drivers and DirectX.

Does this happen for all of your characters, or just a specific one?

Happens on all my characters.

Does anyone have a solution to this?

I have experience the same problem ever since the last patch and now I frequently get disconnected 10-15 times in a row on the loading screen after hitting "Enter World".

When I do log in, I manage to stay connected in the same zone I'm in for hours at a time, however 50% of the time I will get disconnected while zoning and then this entire process repeats itself.

This is very frustrating as it basically means I can't really play EQ. I also have never used any other UI other than the default UI. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Installing new video card drivers did not work for me.

I also deleted and repatched all of the ui files under the UI folder in the EQ directory to no avail. Doing so actually seemed to work for a bit but it quickly reverted back to the disconnected problem. I was able to log in and zone three times without a problem after doing this, but then once I tried to go through the 4th zone it started happening again and has been doing it ever since.

Tweaking data rate up and down has done no good for me either

The stange thing is, when I connect with my laptop I dont this problem. Laptop works fine, and as soon as I log in on my main PC that PC gets disconnected while loading. I am in the process of burning all of my laptop files to CD-R's and then will put all of those files to my main PC to see if that helps.

This was happening to me after the 8-26 patch.

Someone posted a possible fix, it worked for me. IF you have windows XP or ME and are crashing right after chosing char acter to load....

XP: Go to START, select CONNECT TO, right click on your ISP you use, click PROPERTIES, chose NETWORKING. Disable QoS.

You have to do this while disconnected from the internet. QoS is a packet scheduler, priorotizes packets in order of most important first. It's mainly for streaming video, but it really isn't a huge asset to XP.

This worked for me. It MAY work for others, and may NOT for others. It ha mixed resuslts. I also updated my vid/aud drivers before disabling QoS and the updates did not help me get ingame.

For Me users.... go wherever your ISP is (networking folder in MY COMPUTER?) and follow the instructions.

Hope that helps!

I'm crashing the same way and I have XP. But when I follow the directions:

Quote:
XP: Go to START, select CONNECT TO, right click on your ISP you use, click PROPERTIES, chose NETWORKING. Disable QoS.

I find that I have no NETWORKING option to click once I right click PROPERTIES. What the heck am I doing wrong or how can I find QoS to shut it off?

Other things that may have happened:

Blocked ports - the zone you are accessing or your char is parked in uses a port that your ISP has conveniently blocked (purportedly for your safety ), This has happened to PoTactics before (which once used a port that a worm exploited). I don't really know the way to track this problem but some of the tech gurus might be able to tell you.

The Zone files that you are logging into are corrupted (and maybe your char's .ini files too). Thats what the GMs and guides always tell me. Deleting them and reloading sometimes works, sometimes dont.

I found QoS, it was listed under my LAN/high speed connection(I'm stuck using 56k )

By uninstalling it, EQ runs like a dream now. For the first time in awhile, I'm once again able to run both of my accounts on my one PC.

Because EQ was performing so poorly a few weeks before LDoN finally came out, I'm guessing it was something in one of the first mini LDoN patches that started conflicting with QoS.

Thanks again for the help. Screaming at my monitor was getting old!
