View Full Version : Mean, Vindictive ...but is this the gear that got us nerfed?
Just another data point. On the FoH board they identified a guild that has been moved to a PoP test server. Quite possibly the only guild. So it occurred to me that if the nerf resulted from PoP testing then it would be interesting to see what the monks in this guild are wearing. Of course this isn't going to show the PoP replacements, but we'll start to find that out in a couple of weeks.
Here's the magelo of all the monks in the guild,
www.magelo.com/eq_view_pr...?num=64280 (http://www.magelo.com/eq_view_profile.html?num=64280)
Yep, one level 60 Iksar according to their board. Which may help explain why the human / Iksar AC difference was not considered in the nerf.
6 Warriors in the guild, all with less AC than the monk. I'm not an expert on warrior gear though, but it looks pretty decent to me. 1800 point hit point difference on the MA (I presume) and the monk.
Their membership list is here
pantheon.fnord.net/v2members/ (http://pantheon.fnord.net/v2members/)
I am aware this doesn't mean much. Short of knowing what prompted VI to make this change, or even what change they actually made, we can't know the full story. I found it interesting to look around though.

Can't edit post... boo. Thinks.
1) He's got a staff of forbidden rites in his backpack, I guess we can see where the nerf to that came from.
2) One useful outcome might be that we now know what AC VI had in mind when they crafted the nerf. An AC of roughly 1250+ when facing raid level mobs. This seems to match the observations that 1300+ AC monks are noticing little effect while 1000'ish AC sub 60 monks are feeling aggrieved.
3) If his weapon options are T-staff or Fist of Nature it's no surprise he spent a lot of time tanking <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)">
4) He'll also be running with arch-shielding on. Which won't show up on his magelo AC.
</p>
What instantly stand outs to me is that guild has 1 Monk, Ranger, SK, and Paladin... and 6 Warriors.
That in my experience is not an uncommon ratio of spread, although it does of course vary from guild to guild.
Given the 1:6 Monk:Warrior ratio, I'd love to know the reasoning behind "lets make the Monk weaker than the Warriors".
The are far fewer Monks in EQ than Warriors (it's closer to 1:2 than this guild obviously), and I don't see that we need to be constantly catering to Warriors, as they are far from an unpopular class as they stand. Infact there's probably as many Warriors running around as Druids.

Actually, I believe counting only active players, my guild has 2 warriors and 5 or 6 monks.
But then, last night I went and tanked for my guild group in The Grey. I never went before the defence change, but last night I didn't really have trouble tanking 2 or 3 mobs at a time with some careful mob switching. *shrug*

Ishiro your guild might be Monk heavy, I know a guild or two on my server thats monk heavy... do the /who at differing times on your server and get an idea for yourself as to the ratio of different classes.
And did you perhaps have a Shaman with you last night in the Grey? If so the Ranger next to you could have tanked.

"I'd love to know the reasoning "
The reasoning would be they want to make warriors who aren't MT stack better in groups and raids.
So that even a guild with 30 warriors and 1 monk would be able to take stuff on.

no, I think this is more along the lines of what they were trying to nerf
www.magelo.com/eq_view_profile.html?num=12229 (http://www.magelo.com/eq_view_profile.html?num=12229)

1) Every raid monk for a guild should have a staff of the forbidden rites...not sure why you think FoH using them would be the source of the nerf. They are raid savers when used by any FD class, doubt they had anything to do with it.
2) No comment
3) I never get the T-staff aggro factor. I use a T-staff almost exclusively and usually have no trouble controlling my aggro when grouped with moderately equipped 60 warriors. With FoH's high taunt warriors it would not be a problem at all...Fist of Nature may be a different story, as I don't have one.
4) Are any 60 monks running with arch shielding? Wouldn't they be running with focus instead?

So you decide on a Sunday afternoon to log into EQ for a bit. I mean, heck, you got nothing to do before supper right?
Wife's upstairs logged on the laptop downloading some music video or something, but telling you she's just checking her e-mail.
The other computer next to your primary is up, but has live stat tracker on so you can see how your fantasy football team is doing every second of every down. And you're losing because you wasted a draft pick on some St. Louis Ram this year.
So there goes your 3-box option.
You log on. You're in Dawnshroud Peaks. You're thinking, "Oh bugger, who was using me to CR last night?"
You decide to run to nexus. You get assaulted by a rockhopper that was on his way back to his nice comfy cave after some moron trained him to zone.
You're BUFFLESS.
What do you do? What DO YOU DO?
:P

Well, if I'm Furor, I call VI and complain so they nerf Rockhoppers.

Just FYI, the monk whose magelo was posted in the 1st post of this thread didn't move to test with the rest of TP, he stayed on Innoruuk.
