View Full Version : Pulling/monk life with the new features!

Our mitigation has been totally ruined. For high end mob pulling, it basically doesnt exist. Pulling in vex thal, I have died to initial aggro of mobs before I can press fd or stonestance several times. When you die from their initial attacks, there is no time to use those abilities before their second melee round comes in. Prepatch I could almost always get them off or run out of range.

Basically they have ruined my favorite character, I have only logged my monk on a few times since the nerf for regular xp/running around. I still go to my guild events, but pulling is a lot harder now. When we fought emperor shraezsha last night. I died to 2 rounds of combat from it, all max hits ie. no mitigation at all.

I fought a named kobold in velketor's yesterday, and it was doing max or close to max damage almost every hit, where before i could get it to half before needing a heal. The whole fight took 4 or 5 ch to finish compared to 1 or 2 prepatch.

I have a cleric that I 2box at events, and I almost always heal the rampage tank for boss fights. I can tell you from experience that monks were never close to the tanking ability of warriors/sk/paladins. The only reason they did well at all on tanking like this, was because of FD/Stonestance/Mend. And you had to time these and use them sparingly to survive any serious rampage from a high end mob like Diabo Xi Xin/Ssra Emp etc.

Now monks are basically a joke. As a whole we will lose a lot more xp on events from pulling. When a spell ruins your FD or FD fails, you are basically dead now in a place like Vexthal, where there is no room to run the mobs around till FD refreshes due to traps and close proximity of your raid party. I've died with stonestance on several times now, not even living through its duration because of max mob damage on every hit.

In a way this nerf looks like an Xp punishment for monks being able to pull for high end encounters (which was never intended according to verant). We can still pull, but our xp bars wont like it half as much. It is sad that even if you get several pieces of good new items now, you still wont be close to as tough as you were prepatch. If you have to level to 65 and get pop armor/abilities just to crawl back to where you were before in melee capability, what is the point.

Well said. Exactly how I feel about this whole thing. VI has made playing a monk not fun anymore.

I haven't really had much trouble staying alive in VT. Both pulling and tanking rampage. I know my gear is better than most VT enabled monks, but not that huge of a margin I don't think. You may want to use a few tricks like LoS and better spacing. No monk is going to survive long vs. a eom sens or cent standing up against them toe to toe pre or post patch.

Anyhow, if you are dying in one round now, you'd only last another one round tops pre-patch. So, I'd suggest looking at your techniques rather than simply blaming VI.

"If you have to level to 65 and get pop armor/abilities just to crawl back to where you were before in melee capability, what is the point."

You pay $ 39,90 for it and several more months $ 13,- each to get back to the power that you have had pre patch. Smart from Verant, isnt it ?

Ok i guess i want to know is what is our roll in groups now? We cannot take hits anymore and can not do rogue damage (at least since kunark). so besides pulling what are we there for before we were the middle ground between the 2 i mean i would get my but kicked by a mob but i would still laugh at the sight of a rogue squealing like a caster when they got hit...

Very well said.

Let me tell you that the monk class was my first class and that my monk WAS my favorite character. I was not getting tired of the class at all and was enthused with the possibility of getting to level 60. Hell, why would I spend so much time getting my epic done if I was ready to make a class change, as some accuse.

After the nerf I testing out my soloing capabilities and definitely noticed how bad they were. I was willing to wait and see how my guild raiding capabilities were. Well, I went raiding. Made me almost cry how bad my contribution to the guild was. I couldn't pull and I couldn't contribute 100 % to all the fights for fear of spending too much of our guild cleric's mana.

So, our MT pulls now. What do I do? I join the fight after the rangers have gone in and pull back every once in a while to drop aggro.

My monk who I held in such high esteem is now a pure raiding character. I will only play him on raids with my friends in my guild.

Verant has no idea what they have done to smallish guilds where monks like me were integral.

Honestly I feel no difference what so ever since the patch, just a few hours ago I duoed sebilite protector with my shammy with no problem what so ever (he hits for 453). And havent had a problem pulling or offtanking anything in Ssra. The one difference I have seen, is that mobs above level 60 seem to get max hit every - or almost every - time. That's very few mobs, and the times I had to get in contact with these I did not die from it.

As far as I see it, the only thing Verant killed is monks as rampage tanks, which is very very fair to me.

Maybe I am just a special case however. But with my 58 shammy by my side I can still solo 4 juggs at a time, and anything I've always could.

Stop whining, we aint a worthless class.

I was rampage tank for the entire fight against the emperor immediately after the nerf. Clerics were on a 7 second CH cycle for me, and I kept telling them to slow down. (Granted emperor rampage is fairly weak but when he does hit it can hurt.) At any rate, I didnt feel totally gimped. I did notice, however, that I went down a little faster against xp mobs than warriors in my group. Before the nerf, I went down at about the same rate. Pulling on the other hand...
