View Full Version : How monk nerf should have been done

It seems that verant has very little imagination. Why cant they nerf what they realy considered a problem?

Problem: monk can tank uber mobs.

Solution: First FIX THE WARRIOR taunt so we dont have to taunt, then lower our mitigation when in attack mode. By doing this they would have adressed directly the problem, without nerfing monk pulling ability

You don't have to nerf Defense to accomplish this. Fix taunt and make us generate less hate, and monks no longer tank.

Either that or ackowledge that the problem only existed with regard to the very top end of Monks working as Rampage tanks and that Warriors were in fact the tank of choice... fix the softcaps, and retain Warriors as tanks of choice.

Lets not become apologists for VIs nerf. And lets not fall into accepting truths that aren't so out of desperation. Otherwise we lend credence to the lie that Monks were never meant to be able to tank.

How the nerf should have been done is not at all.. Warriors need a slight boost to maintian the order of Warrior > Monk > Rogue at tanking and Rogue > Monk > Warrior at damage.

It's nto a complicated situation, and the fix wasn't complicated either.

Up the AC penalties from going over the monk wt allotment. I've talked to quite a large number of high end monks in their uber gear and one thing I used to continually ask was "How did they manage to stay under weight?" because it was very difficult for me. Across the board the response was basically a laugh and some comment about them being currently at 22-25 stone. The upper end gear isn't all 0 and .1 wt. That Fungi is 2 wt. Gray Flesh Sleeves are 1 wt. That stuff starts adding up.

VI felt that we weren't fulfilling our role when we had the option of tanking? Well, if it's about fulfilling our role then make the monk penalty for going over weight actually significant enough that the ac gained from putting on that peice of gear doesn't counter-balance it. Any monk can have the option of living under the weight restrictions then, however the Uber Monks with their high end gear must either choose to not wear nessasarily all that stuff at once, or religiously avoid agro.

If there's an up side at all of the nerf, it's that the weight restrictions are obsolete now for mid-level monks. Our AC is crap and we can't take hits at all. Simple fact we're going to have to live with. So as long as our AC is going to royally suck and we can't take hits, who cares if we lose another 40 points of AC. Crappy tank - 50 AC = Still Crappy Tank. So go ahead and loot up, boys. Wear all that stuff that you always wanted to. I'll laugh my rear off the first time I see a monk walking around in those Granite shoulderthings and using boulders in his ranged slot.

If you can't take the hits, might as well take the loot. New monk role: ML.
