View Full Version : lvl20, sticking to old world but where to go?
okidoki
my 20 monk has a bunch of acrylia gear, cane of tranquil, fist of rock, grey flesh tunic, cougar claw/orc fang earring, velium fire wedding ring, blahblahblah
so where should I go in oldworld? (only oldworld, please dont say PC or something)
done really with oasis and its hard to get a group there anyway
in highhold pass i was barely able to keep with all the orcs/gnolls
uguk was awful
thinking I should go to sk and play with the hermit abit but any other options?

If you're talking the original EQ zones from 1999, you might try South Karana, Lake Rathe or Rathe Mountain zones. If you include Kunark as part of the 'old world' then head over to the Lake of Ill Omen.

Are you looking to solo, or group?

solo perferred but open to grouping

My pre-Kunark solo spots for your level range:
South Karana
Oasis of Marr ('til maybe 24)
Lesser Faydark, Orc Chief camp (this may be too dangerous now with the wandering brownies)
My favorite pre-Kunark group spot:
Unrest

I think you can try Najena as well.
Runnyeye should be good if you can manage to get singles.
Jasn Jibantik
55 Pet Monk
Wielder of the Celestial Fists

hmm gonna try najena
sk is ok but i have to solo very slowly there
there is usually an aviak group that steals all the birds and they usually want monks that are higher lvl so they can play with the harriers and avocets
lesser fay is scary=( its so dark and the brownies comes out of nowhere
unrest ehhh. maybe when im 21 because i still get aggro from beetles. although any pulling tips for unrest is greatly appreciated(from the house)
alsooooooo
after the patch, i went to sk to play with the hermit. i dragged him out of the house and whenever i tried fighting him, 2 wolf cubs popped out of nowhere and started attacking me. they conned even and they just keep on popping out every single time which never happened to me before. anyone else experienced this before?

At 20, only if you kill the sporeli's. Stay away from the Moldmaster if she's up though. The Sporeli's can get ya to 27ish fairly quickly, defenders hit a little hard for their lvl, but they don't hit often.
I definately wouldn't do the goblins at 20....tooo many casters.

unrest is a good palce..

i tried to solo sporelis but they were too many wandering goblins and sporelis
i think i'll get to 27, leave najena and go to sol a

South Karana is where I would go. Then Lake Rathe for the birds and some undead gnolls. Bear in mind that if you solo in the old world, progress is going to be naturally slow.

Unrest is good, get inside the ground floor and work on pulling singles. You have two roamers inside the house and several yard trash that roam in the back and out the side, so pick your camp carefully - the room that leads down to the basement would probably be best, it only has a one static spawn.
Watch out for the pathing wall - if you walk in the side door and hang a right, you will see a corridor off to your left... aggro anything down there and it WILL go the long way around and bring friends.
Since you can feign when Ghoul-rooted, the only real annoyance while soloing will be the Mummy disease but if there's anyone else in there, you could always get a group going and move them into the house to avoid most of the trash.

ok i'm almost 41 now. Left old world for need of money and went to cc for the velium and genoid camp. (but was disappointed when i found out that on bristlebane, everyone sells velium bricks and genoid camp is almost impossible to get)
after i ding 41, i decided to either go to sol a or tofs. which one should i go to?

At lvl 41 you can solo in SolB pretty well. My monk went from 37 to 45 in SolB it's good xp and it's a good place to be if Targan pops. Tip: Pull your mobs up to the SolA zone (near window room) that way if you get in trouble you have a quick exit.

Sol A dries up at level 37; Sol B is better at level 41.
ToFS is a really neat place, but the need for keys and the out-of-the-way location, teamed with the high number of caster mobs, makes it a poor monk solo spot, in my estimation.
Another good place to try is Lower Guk; you could probably do pretty well against the mobs near the zone-ins. Great Divide is not bad either, go after the wolves. The giants might be a bit tough depending on your gear.

SolB will take you to 60 if you wan't. But XP gets slow at 57+. But still a good spot if your soloing.

I havent' seen anyone mention this yet, but guk, will take you all the way to 60, maybe even 65 if you are patient.

sol b is tough. i can hardly solo a greater kobloid without lots of bandages and downtime. grouping is hardly an option as sol b and guk usually has less than 10 people on bristlebane (/cry)
so i found myself in DL(the horror!) at lvl 42 but gave up after sitting at karnors LFG for a while with no tells. very frustrating so i started a cleric!
but my monk calls out to me. he wants me to reach 55 by december which should be accomplished easily if i can a freaking group! (why am i experiencing high end monk woes at lvl 42 )

LDoN - put yer LFG tag up and hop around the camps checking the /ooc's. Shouldn't take long.

hmmm since the people who follow this thread know my monk's situation better than the monk equipment thread...

looking for upgrades! i perfer if the piece mentioned is 500pp or less (give or take)
sorry my magelo isnt as pretty as everyone's. i made it really quickly

cheap upgrades you could use:
Another orc fang earring.
Chipped Velium Amulet or Ulthork HIde Collar for Neck.
Crystal Spider Eyes for Face.
Shimmering Terrorhide Cloak for back.
Spider Fur Belt for Waist.

weeeeeeeeee ok
got myself a steady group and leveled to 49 from cc, dulak, dreadlands, kk, and some other zones.
i got rid of almost all my acrylia gear and replaced it with hp stuff.
hp is about around 1800(still not that great but i only have 2k in bank. i cried when i grouped with a 38 bst who was out aggroing me and had hp of almost 3000 with only druid hp buff. some people are extremely too twinked)
heres my current dilemma. should i go to kc, dl, or nobles in hhk? nobles are hard to handle without a partner but i can handle the single spawn on the upper level.
should i trade my tranquil staff (worth 20k on bb) for CHoS (20k)and scrounge up some money for Delightful Orb?(around 20k too)
DPS VS Proc and stats??

If you're mostly soloing I would strongly encourage you to keep the T-Staff at your level, once it starts proccing you'll understand why : )
Nothing you will be fighting at your level will resist the T-Proc stun the CHoS one can be resisted. The Orb is a somewhat poor ratio, and procs can either be your friend or get you killed when they don't go off heh, while the T-Staff is always going to be decent DPS.

I haven't seen anyone say it yet, so I guess I will. HHP and HK. HK you can solo Osargen quite easily and get exp solo till about lvl 30. You can group in the basement starting around level 25 and stay there until level 40 (RR solo).
