View Full Version : Does DEX now have a function??
With the changes to mitigation/avoidance do you think maybe they "fixed" the DEX/AGI stats?
Dex was originally supposed to affect block/parry skills which are avoidance skills...
Agi was for dodge, another avoidance skill...
Dex/Agi is on a lot of monk gear...
Looks like we need some base stat testing too see if going the dex/agi route would be viable...
I don't usually have time to play much, but i am going to parse what i can when i do play...will post results around here somewhere.

dex was never, ever, for avoidance skills.....agi however was...and agi items will now be of huge value to monks (and here i sit saying 'i told you so'..i put all my extra points in agi, im an oldschooler)
dex is for making contact with your swings and not missing so often......it also effects procs now because that has the same concept behind it......
agi is for avoidance skills, ALL of em, ie: dodge parry riposte block etc. (no, we dont get parry, but agi works the same for every class)
agi gives an innate bonus to AC, this however has nothing to do with avoidance skill roll-checks
anything that gives you +dodge%, or any other avoidance skill you will need to now invest in.......to survive you will need lots of agi, im even considering, if i keep playing my monk, to toss my other hp/AC ring for a bloody velium BP ring (7dex/agi)......heck, wtf does 65 HP matter anymore and 6 AC when i get hit for max anyway? if i cant avoid attacks im dead.......get a djarns ring and the velium BP ring, thats 16 agi right there, and every monk should have fetish of nimble/agile or better, and shissar scale headband......these things are going to save our lives or at least give us a second chance to FD if it fails.....stupid fungi with neg10 agi is gonna get tossed too.....a big f*ck you too verant.....the last thing monks have is pulling, and now you make that impossible for us...

Stick with your 6/65 rings, With Avatar, and Agi, you should be beyond maxed anyways.

The agility question was something I brought up at the beginning of this new section starting (it think its on the second from last page now) well I tryed it last night swapped my acrylia reinforced wristbands for two serpentine bracers my spider fur cloak for a blood weave cloak my goranga idol for a fetish of the nimble and my crystal spider eye for a mushroom veil which brought my agi to 186 then went and tryed Taskmaster Torzah again.
Before the patch I used stonestance and mend and ended the fight with around 90% health.
After the patch (with the ac/hp gear on) I used stonestance and mend and ended with about 60% health.
After the patch (with agility gear on) I used stonestance and mend and ended up with 10hp left yeah thats right 10hp not 10% health 10 friggin hp's.
So think carefully before buying agility gear as the prices have started to rise already dramatically. I heard some monks in the bazaar shout about some things tripling in price <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/frown.gif ALT=":(">

I've trotted out statements by Verant on multiple occasions, and the old time parsers here have posted their results:
Agi helps your SKILLUPS in block and dodge.
Agi does NOT affect how often you block and dodge.
Agi adds SMALL amounts of AC, and that is all it does in terms of damage reduction.
Chasing Agi at the expense of AC/HP is still a poor decision IMO.

this is from a statement block that one of the eq devs after kunark said.....who albeit didnt know much but was still, technically, accurate:
Agi helps your SKILLUPS in block and dodge.
Agi does NOT affect how often you block and dodge.
you must read this word for word.....agi does not affect how OFTEN you block or dodge.....that is, there is a limit to how many times per round a defensive ability can be used, there were questions regarding this (ie: "if i have 200 greens on me can i dodge all of them?" answer: no, most of them will miss, but lets say for one round they all hit, you can only dodge a certain number of them, can only block a certain number of them, and can only riposte a certain number of them).....thats what this statement says
if you know anything about how computers work, know anything about how games work, heck if you know how D&D works.........THATS HOW EQ WORKS!
its a roll-check system, same as D&D.....when you get "hit", you have a chance to use defense skill X number of times (based on lvl, but i believe post 50 its 2 times per round per defense skill, at 60 it might upgrade to 3 or something i dont know) and for each dodge/riposte/block check its your AGI that makes a roll-check...
if they upgraded our abilities to evade, then using agi items over HP/AC/str/dex items would allow us to actually use those heightened abilities more.......
however, even though this being the case, we still have such crap for damage mitigation, which is also a factor that is rolled in to how/if you get hit, that we take damage anyway.....
its a loose loose situation......
but i have tested it between 125 agi with my hp/AC stuff versus roughly 190 agi with a considerable 200+ hp less and roughly 75 AC less and i in fact survived much better......it increased my evasion overall by a solid few % (was around 3%...over a sample of 20 kills of the same exact creatures as used before).....the damage i took was roughly the same, because, basically, i was taking full damage anyway......so AC is seeming sorta worthless to me unless you can get to the AC cap, in which case youre an uber monk and this nerf, which was meant to effect you, ended up just helping you since youre still over the AC cap anyway and now just evading everything easier......
good job verant

Ironically it seems post nerf AC gear is even more important, unless you have so much you're way above the softcap (both pre and post nerf).

Not in Everquest.
Dex and Agi are as good as meaningless both before and after monks were destroyed. Dex does not effect your chance to hit, agility does not effect your chance to avoid.

"for each dodge/riposte/block check its your AGI that makes a roll-check..."
Nope, not according to VI, and not according to parsed tests posted here.
Dodge, Block and Riposte checks are made against your SKILL. That is all.

I don't know about other items, but Serpentine Bracers are going up in price because of the Focus effect that they have been given. Extended Affliction II increases the duration of all sub-49 DOTs by 20%, a must-have for all Necros, Druids, and Shamans out there <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)">
