View Full Version : Do you think that this could be done?
With Ramsus' map mod..one of the 2 things I was DYING to see with the new UI has happened....the only other thing I'd like to see with the new UI? An mp3 player in it.
Do you think this could be done? I'm totally clueless with XML and all that.

you can play mp3s directly thru EQ using mci commands to load the files and such. check your eqmanual supplement, the really big one. The MCI commands are detailed on page 26. bah, nm here's the text from the manual
<blockquote>Quote:<hr> /mcicontrol – Allows a player to control sound devices such as cdaudio or mp3s to play when in-game. This command will be further developed in the future to be more user friendly. Until that point, the following are some commands you can use to play audio CD's:
Before using any other of these commands, use the following to open up communications:
/mcicontrol open cdaudio
To play:
/mcicontrol play cdaudio
To pause:
/mcicontrol pause cdaudio
To stop:
/mcicontrol stop cdaudio
To skip forward:
/mcicontrol step cdaudio
To skip back:
/mcicontrol back cdaudio
To eject the CD:
/mcicontrol eject cdaudio
Note: Though ejecting itself should not cause any gameplay problems, putting in a new disk may.
If you have AutoPlay enabled on your computer (which is windows default), it may start your CDaudio program and possibly, switch out of EverQuest, causing EverQuest to likely crash, or at the least may cause a phantom cursor to appear.<hr></blockquote>
I've been using hotkeys for individual files to play the songs for months now. The biggest problem is you have to supply a full path to the file. like /mci play C:mp3 his.mp3.
I'm really not familiar with the capabilities of XML, but I would suspect there is a way to create an ingame interface for playing mp3s. Anyone with a little more XML knowledge know of a way to either work with text data(playlist file) or get directory information thru XML? And if you do, once you have the file imformation, how would you generate and execute the proper mci command?
Maybe if you could construct the strings, you could use hotkey objects to execute the commands. I mean if you were to clone the behavior of one of those keys, then set the data to an mci command, pressing the key should then execute the command. I don't know how to do it, but it seems reasonable to me. But I really have no idea if XML is flexible enough to allow loading of text data from a file or give directory access.
bah, now i wanna see if it can be done. time to look at those hotkeys i guess

I'm working on this right now.
I can make EQ play 1 mp3, wav, midi, and could probably get it to play a video in a pop up window.
But, since /mci is looking for an actual sound or video file to play, it won't recognize a .m3u or .pls file.
I'm working on a way for the [mci extension] in system.ini to say "hey! this is a play list! well ok! here ya go!" and play the mp3 play list.
I'm in Alabama, in a few hours (or minutes) you players in Europe should hear me scream if I can't get it to work <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)">
IF I get it working, I'll make a skin for it too in the new ui.

Holy poo! you CAN play video! haha cool!
find an avi and in EQ type /mci play c: path_to_movie
ame.avi
Example: If I have smurfs.avi in my c: movies folder, I just type /mci play c: moviessmurfs.avi
It pops up a window and plays the video!
***EDIT!*** DON'T do this, it worked for about 2 minutes, then crashed EQ and crashes it every time after that without fail. If you try this, you WILL crash EQ with the error:
The instruction at "0x1ee3de1b" referenced memory at "0x05c643a8". The memory could not be "read".
