Hello all,

Just thought I would ask your opinions on this, I have a 49 monk and a good friend of mine has a 55 bard. We are looking to hydra a third account and we haven't decided which would be better: a shaman or a cleric.

We are leaning towards the cleric as it has better healing power and that is one thing that sets us back. The bard substitutes a lot of what a shaman would have to offer, but I thought I would look on many of the wise opinions of you all.

Thanks

Take a shaman.

In most camps, a shaman can heal just as effectively as a cleric.

Also, the healing power of a shaman isn't just direct heals, their slows give indirect damage mitigation. A mob that hits for only 30 percent effectively triples effective healing.

Shaman almost never run OOM at higher levels with cann/torpor.

Shamans offer a wide variety of buffs that stack with more class buffs... Cleric buffs stack with druid, shaman, BL buffs, Shaman buffs stack with cleric, druid, paladin etc.

Shamans also bring utility skills like Slow, effective roots, pets, attack buffs, etc... this can free up the bard to mix in more offensive/defensive songs.

One way to look at it is a Monk can Duo effectively almost anywhere with a shaman. Good luck doing this with a cleric.

With a shaman's regen/haste/slow ability they are much better than a cleric. A cleric's hit point buffs and healing abilities are much better but a shaman's indirect impact is greater than a cleric.

Drop the bard, get the shammy and the cleric :0)~

Ok, I suck, but so do bard slows :0)~

Bards and shammy's have a lot of overlap. The bard slows are inferior (best bard slow is 52% and that's at level 64), but their haste is better (60%+30% over haste plus whatever item you are wearing with a dmg shield component at 64). Add mezz and charm and bards add cc as well.

That being said, I would do as the last poster (obviously not an option since you have already leveled the bard/monk) and go monk/shammy/cleric. I have thought this over quite a bit as I just rolled this trio.

why a cleric: good hp buffs, REZZES, great big heals.

Why a shaman: good utility buffs, good debuffs, monk/bard HP pool makes shammy heals as good as CH.

.. ask the monk what he'd like to be playing on a second account. There's no way the bard will be playing the hydra. I'd recommend the cleric over the shaman, since you have a bard. Big giant slows are nice, but when it comes to killing things, it's not so much the size of the slow, but that it's slowed at all that helps.

It's a ton easier to bot a cleric than to bot a shaman. It's pretty much just stand, heal, sit for a cleric. You have debuf, slow, buff, and cani to deal with for a shaman. A cleric starts paying his way as soon as he hits level 39, too. Especially with bard slow, most of your fights will be one or two CH's at most. Even a level 39 cleric can cover that with gheto gear. A shaman isn't useful until he can land malo/slow, which means you have to level him all the way up to your own level before you get any value out of him. Ultimately, a level 60-65 shaman with all his spells (including torpor and malo) would be nicer, but until he gets there, you won't get much use out of him.

And those can be hard to find at times. I do have a 63 warrior friend who bots a 62 shaman so it is doable.
