Experience and consider

I have been consistently solo hunting phlargs in PC to level up from about 18 to 21. I got tired of Spreading Crud so I decided to try Shadeweaver. I fought a couple white conning charred corpses (who were taking me down to about 30% HP giving me a LOT of down time). What I found was that the white conning charred corpses were giving me less XP than the phlargs which have been dark blue for a couple levels. I went back the phlargs which were far easier prey, and lvld up in no time.



I thought the difference in levels (ie conning) was the only thing that affected how much xp you get. Is there something else to it? Or am I just imagining it.

You also have zone experience modifiers.



Mostly dungeons give more exp. per kill as they have higher ZEM. (reasoning being that either the zones are more difficult inside vs. outside or the are underused).



PC has a HUGE ZEM.



That's why you get more exp for a blue kill there than a white kill else where.

ZEM = Zone Experience Modifier



This is a multiplier to the exp gained from each kill in that particular zone. Every zone in the game has one, and they vary a great deal (Paludal is believed to have the highest in the game for some reason).



This means that the exact same MOB at the exact same level may yield a different amount of exp in each zone which it appears.



Also, when comparing the amount of exp gained over a period of time, killing a steady stream of easy MOBs is almost always more efficient than killing tougher MOBs with significant downtime in between kills.

Why not solo the blue bugs and shrooms in PC? They good for a couple more levels still. I usually give up on them when I ding 24. But even at 24 about half are still dark blue. You just need to head off the side tunnel away from the fungus dudes.

Yea that's what I'm doing now, but I didn't know about ZEMs so I figured I would get more XP going elsewhere to kill more difficult targets.



Also I wanted to explore a little. It gets boring living your life in the Paludal Caverns.

I hunted in Paludal Caverns from 20 to 26 which a foray or two into Netherbian Lair, Dawnshroud Peaks and Marus Seru. I'm 27 now and mainly divide my time between Marus Seru and Dawnshroud Peaks.
