Dec. 9th...
imo it is doable, though the dev crew has alot of work to do.
just whether or not the game will be good enough for me to buy at release..is another matter and my choice won't be made til just prior to release

i personally wont be buying it... too many people are giving it the "it has the possibility of being a really great game" schpeal which leads me to believe they have alot of work to do in only a month and a half... i dont think theyll make it... maybe in 6 monthes ill pick it up when i buy swg...

For me it's in the same basket with SWG... a shoulda, woulda, coulda, DIDN'T kind of game.
I'll keep my eye on it over the next few years to see if/how both it and AE mature, but there's no way I'm picking it up at release.

Yep. "It has potential" is a popular phrase. However, that can be construed positively OR negatively. (Positive in that it will change, and negative that it won't)

Right now I'd say it's quite ahead of SWG was at it's release.
Then again that's not saying much now is it? It doesn't have a major franchize license to ensure a windfall release.
On the other hand my old lady quite enjoys it and we will be getting it on day one I've been told. Personally I'm not sold on a day 1 purchase ATM, but that's irrelevent.

it has potential
the problem is they have yet to turn everything ON for us to test, once that happens we'll know better as to what is what.
yes CURRENTLY it is farther along than SWG was at release..

if they could just add loot, excitment, and some level of immersion into the game it would be great.
Right now, for me its just so boring I feel like pulling my hair out after a couple hours of play

To me, the game just became Everquest v2 with the new patch.. pigs that aggro, combat, and wool plants?.. and as well as uninteresting game play.
Could also be I play a monk..
I'll give it 6 months.
Also wrote a rather depressing/blistering survey for them. (hey, they wanted our current feelings)

I am not sure that they can hold that date.
I just got my beta access (european beta) yesterday.
for a release on december 9th the game would have to be at gold status now.
But maybe they expect their customers to download hundreds of MB patches after buying the game.
But we will see.
I just burned the 2 CD's today so will take my first steps into the world this evening.

Just saw on Games Domain release was moved up to Dec 5. You know. You all might want to beware. Two Games were released this year by Atari/Infogrames that shouldnt have been. Master of Orion 3 and Temple of Elemental Evil. Im not trying to dis Horizons but Someone at Atari is making some very bad decisions. I would recommend a wait and see policy.

After buying AE's first game Demise (rights to it sold to another company to my knowledge) i am more than cautious buying products from them.
Demise was supposed to be a MMOG as well, but never made it past beta IMO.

Oh.. man.. this thread breaks my heart.
I really thought this game was going to be the real deal..
I'm hoping you beta testers see improvements as it gets closer to release?

Nooooo
I guess I kinda saw this coming. Horizons was stuck in the conceptual phase of its development for too long, and they threw in too many ambitious ideas. But I wanted this game to work, I liked the notion of playing a dragon. Oh well. I'll just wait for the reviews and player feedback I guess.

I'm tired of games where the best thing people can say is "maybe it will be a good game with an extra 6 months to a year of work". Maybe it will get better as time goes on, but maybe it won't. They want you to buy it now, and right now, it doesn't sound like a finished product.

SUPPOSEDLY what we saw in beta isn't the release game we will get, we'll find out this weekend in europe.
IF this is true than is a blank slate and who knows it MIGHT be good
wait and see is all i can tell you atm

I disagree, Len. If they really do have this "magic build" somewhere (which I truly and wholeheartedly do not believe) then it is untested content.
That nearly scares me more than releasing the crap we already know about.

If its untested - yeah that worries me
which brings me back to the
"i will not pay to play an open beta" statement
which IF it is completely different, will be EXACTLY what the release of horizons will be for the first several months, open beta
of course right now between EQ and cough cough that other unmentionable game i'm not playing anything else
EQ is for raiding and my friends
that other game, i play whenever i am not in eq raiding or busy irl.

It is not untested content.
Suppopsedly it is being internally tested. Feel free to debate the merits of internal testers versus of hordes of MMOG fans beating on your product, I think you could argue both sides in a pretty convincing manner.
I don't believe the hidden build thing, but if it is true, it will be a huge BOON for Horizons.
Betas have became a big negative in the development of MMOGs at this point. They without exception now create all kinds of bad word of mouth and negative feelings. Having your most rabid fans burn out on your entire game before you start charging them has ALWAYS been bad business.
So if they really have managed to hold back a SUBSTANTIAL amount of content for release, my hat will be off to them.
