Over the next few weeks, there will be many, many changes to the shards, and the beta participants will either be horrified or delighted by the changes. We'll be watching to discover which.

Dryads will be in game at release, but not as a selectable or "slave" player race, WE have to convince the dryads to join the war thus becoming a player race.
they are REALLY pushing for a nov(xmas) release
if you are in horzons beta program, the Fun is about to begin...

they got 8 weeks til december, is it enough to get everything done?
maybe.
in 4 weeks we'll know whether its going to be swg like(the release that is- of course right now istaria has more "content" than swg did at release) or not.

well I think Fder said it best,
I'm not buying any IOU's
I am not saying its impossible for them to implement all the things are are supposed to be in the game, but its looking seriously doubtful..
Its taking them so long to make ANY changes and the stress test have been just awful so far. (there's still horrible lag in guild group when we get rushed) I do not see how they can implement everything basic without it just being one big cluster fuck. Much less a raid encounter..
I am being realistic.. I don't think its nessecary for them to have 20 raid encounters, but I expect no less than 2 to be avaible at release.
At the moment its pretty and fun to explore.. but that is getting old fast. Especially with how tedious it has become lately.

Horizons already has more content than SWG - and they just implemented a lot of it in the past 2 - 3 weeks.
However, I'm hoping they push release back a bit later and flesh out the game more, I don't mind sticking in beta a bit longer to make sure the game is rather clean when released <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)">

When I'm going around playing, I see the programmers and other GMs/WMs/AE Devs playing the game testing stuff. Just a few days ago, the art programmer was testing spell effects. He also told me they have their own version of the game (that is compatible with everyone else's) and it's what's "coming up" in the versions they're going to release, they're just making sure it's not bugged to hell and deeper.

It's actually still up and running, even if it is barely.
I haven't played it since beta, but I thought I had heard that it was still going, and after checking their website/forums it seems it is.
There's a free trial thing if you're interested. www.istaria.com
This was their latest news post
September 13, 2007 PHOENIX, Arizona – Virtrium LLC, developers of online game technologies and products, announced today that it has completed an agreement with Tulga Games, LLC., in which Virtrium has agreed to purchase the assets of Tulga Games. My understanding is that Horizons has changed ownership 3 or 4 times now. I never followed the game closely, but I'd see an occasional news snippet pop up in the blogoshpere. I remember reading that Horizons fails at basic things like proper billing, so I'd be leery of any 'free trial' if it requires billing info.

It changed "owners" again?
Ouch.
Still staying away from "The Zapper" though.

Question is if Dryads are a playable race yet or not.
