View Full Version : /shield and monks...

Okay, I don't know if I understand this correctly, so I'm going to propose an idea and would appreciate some feedback on this...

So, warriors have /shield now, which lets them take damage from the MA. That's cool and I think it's a good change. Here's my question - since monks avoidance is still better than a warriors, and we have mend/stonestance, and some uber raid-buffed upper-end monks have 6k+ HPs anyway, wouldn't /shield make monks a good choice for MA on high end encounters? Isn't that exactly what VI wanted to keep from happening?

Monk MA + 5 warriors /shielding = high avoidance, and uses the warrior mitigation to offset the monk nerf (which doesn't seem to affect high end monks/encounters anyway due to insanely high ATKs). Add in Stonestance and defensive, DS's on the MA and /shielders, plus cleric AE heals, and doesn't that mean PCs take little damage while the mob gets its ass whooped?

Am I not understanding something?

Shielding only lasts 12 seconds.

Total damage done while /shield is in effect is over 100%. That just means more damage is done to PCs, but it's split across those PCs. With CH rotations, you want 1 PC taking all the damage.

well, I think I'm wrong now..

/shield has a 3 minute reuse, and apparently only one tank can shield a person at a time, so you'd have Tank_01 /sheild for 12 seconds, then Tank_02 would move in, etc.. The problem that I didn't see is that /shield effectively increases a mob's damage output by 25%. If I'm hit for 800, I'll only take 400, but the /shielder will take 600.

Looks like my above post was way off.. hehe. Oh well, that's why I asked - I didn't understand the command. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/wink.gif ALT=";)">

I guess it's really just a good tool for a MA/SA transition to keep the SA alive while he gains agro. /shrug

I see it being used to shield casters, specifically a chanter trying to get a mob under control or a cleric trying to survive getting pounded after landing a CH. In these cases, I think it's a very good ability.
