View Full Version : End Game In New MMORPGs
I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about the end game of any of the new MMORPGs that are coming out soon, specifically SW:G, WoW, and Horizons. The two things that made EQ so much fun for me was the sheer scope of end game raids and the rarity of items. I know these are the two things many people complain about, but they made the game for me. 35+ people cooperating together that put that much time into getting things right seemed to set the game apart. Also, the rarity of items added a lot more challenge (depending on your definition of challenge) to EQ then most games.
Does anyone know about the end games for either of the games mentioned above? I played a MUD called GemStone 3 a LONG time ago, and also played AC for a bit, and the end games for both just bored me so much. If EQ did anything right for this genre it was the end game for me.

WoW is going to have "end game" encounters of some sort, several of the dev team are or were in end game guilds in eq.
Tigole being one of the most famous ones on the WoW team.(i believe he was doing quests)
EQ2 will have "end game" encounters of various size from 1 group to 6+ groups..
SW:G - they haven't out and out said it, but it'll be there in some form. swg has 20 member groups after all
horizons - not known. its in beta 1 currently.

SWG end game for the fighter as I know it:
PVP:
Battlefields to wage galactic civil war.
Going overt with a faction enables you to fight overt members of the opposite faction anywhere.
Gain perks for fighting in the galactic civil war such as stormtrooper armor, ability to check out stormtroopers and even AT-STs as pets, ranks/titles, etc.
Space fights twitch style (space expansion).
PVE:
Nameds unfortunately cannot be killed due to continuity reasons.
Big creatures such as krayt dragons.
Forts/bases (This is where raids will be possible I think. Im assuming you know something about the spawn system and how it is dynamic. Well for example, an imperial base that sticks around in game for a few weeks will grow and gain more floors. You will need to amass a rebel force to be able to go take out this base full of imperials. This will also have an impact on the gameworld because once the base is destroyed it wont be there anymore.)
Theme parks - You do missions earn favor with big named NPCs, and can work your way up enough to get to meet Jabba, Vader, etc. himself.
Points of interest - Places familiar from the movies.
Remember this. The high end content of EQ consisted solely of Naggy and Vox when it first came out. Its impossible to know what the focus of these games will be a couple years from now.

Wow, good to hear that. I had problems finding a lot of that info on their websites and message boards and of course you guys have the answers right away heh. I remember original EQ, I played back then but was never in a raiding type of guild, but I know what you mean. Before fear came out it was all about Naggy, Vox, and my favorites in the early days, FGs and Efreeti heh.
I wish NDA would lift on SW:G so I could find out more info about the gameplay. I'm almost done with college and was thinking about starting up with EQ again, but if SW:G looks like more my thing I want to do that. Looks like the other MMORPGs won't be out after xmas, so I'm not too interested yet.

What ever you do don't start playing EQ again. With games like SWG just around the corner I would wait. No sense in investing so much time into a dying game.

The FAQ on the SWG site and the boards have much info. The devs even take quotes off the beta boards and paste them for the world to see just what is being changed and complained about.

I was way interested in SWG til they said they were going to have perma-death in the game and 100% turn based combat least til the space expansion...
Now I look forward to Planetside

Ryu, where are you getting the turn based thing from? Combat in SWG is just like in EQ except with tons of special moves.

eq is a turned based (thats why I am fairly sure I won't like another game with the same type of combat system) combat game, heh. I was hoping it would be a mix of maybe 20% player skills and 80% character skills.
/shrug doesn't matter either way the whole FS slot situation is FUBARed IMHO
also I have been to 5+ chat sessions and they never answer any of the important questions... So I've decided to not look for any info on the game or look forward to it, til they are willing to tell the future customers something about it.

EQ is about as turn based as half life, theres nothing turn based about it. Althought pvp in eq sucks, its pretty involving when speaking about char vs char, you can move around eachother, while fighting, ect. But if its anything, it is NOT turn based.

Hey Izzoe, I haven't talked to you since I quit EQ.. about a year ago I think it was. Just thought I would say hi since I decided to cancel my account after a stint of EQ burn out and never really said bye to any of my friends. (to anyone else whos curious, my guild had just gone belly up and a bunch of my other friends were playing less and less so it was not like I just up and left..)
It's kinda sad, I'm still hanging around these boards when I havn't played the game for a year.. I guess I'm just addicted to the OOC forum.
Anyhoo, just sayin hey and have fun with life... or something like that lol

um, latest dev post on official SWG board related that they are in a panic to add static content (ie. dungeons) to the game. Apparently they thought their dynamic content would make the game fun enough. WTF? I don;t thin they have an end game yet, since they seem to only just have a game in the eq sense. I have a nasty suspicion that SWG is little more than a SW graphical chatroom atm. How many years in development? and they're just now adding dungeons? I wish they had had someone designing good unique dungeons for the last 3 years, instead of slapping some stuff together at the 11th hour. A good thing the post said was that they have hundreds of quests ready! ^_^
I hope they make this game good before they release it ...
