View Full Version : Block?? Has anyone else noticed this?
I was in ME with a level 60 +21 monk, 2 level 55 monks, and me, my sorry level 50.5 iksar butt, with 68+ days played, sigh, damn you exp penelty =p. Anyways, to the subject, the level 60 claimed he blocked from behind, which never happened before the nerf. I noticed it too when I was fighting. This means one thing, verant is making it possible for us to pull better, due to the fact we can now run forward and still block. Has anyone else noticed blockin mobs that are behind you, or was it our imagination?

.. riposte has pretty much always worked from behind, you get the blocking part, you just don't get to hit the critter back (target is out of reach message). I have dodge and block messages turned off, so I don't know about those.

The reason you sometimes seem to use defensive skills while being attacked from behind is a little lag, while you on your screen have the mob behind you but the server 'knows' the mob is in front of you.

I dont have lag, currently I am running both a cable modem and DSL, and for the comp, lets not go there, because it will make you all cry (lets do, cryo cooled, dual athlons at 3.37ghz each, hehe, heck, my GeForce4 runs at 779mhz =p). And yes, I can walk thru the bazaar, clip-plane maxxed out farthest and still have no lag. Plus, that doesnt change the fact that 3 other monks all noticed the "soandso tries to hit you, but you block" from adds we let beat on our backs.

Xarilok,
You still have lag, no matter what computer or connection you have. Lag as in a little desynch between your computers client and the server. How fat your internet connection is matters little when even during large raids your data transmission don't exceed 10Kb/sec. The operation between client and server isn't perfect. Go ask SKs while they always/often turn sideways before they cast FD.

one odd thing I noticed after the patch, and I haven't tried to reproduce it as I was grouped in UP (a high zone for a lvl 56) and didn't wanna goof off, but once I accidentally hit FD without turning off attack and it worked. this was during a pull so I was the only one with aggro. I smacked a mob and got an add, forgot i had attack on and just dropped. The mobs stood over me then went their separate ways. Gonna experiment with this more.

I never have turned off autoattack, and FD seems to work just fine for me, tho a long time ago this wasnt the case, but I am pretty sure they changed it a while back

Don't know about whether lag accounts for block/riposte from behind, but I've seen this happen before the 10/16 patch. Heck, if you can dodge while sitting, why not block what you can't see?
