Oh I've run across morons like this before who try to impress you by saying they are a GM or know a GM. Who do they think they are impressing? One guy I saw when I was playing a level 1 ranger was levitated and wearing banded mail chest. Tried to tell me he got the spell and armor from a friend who was a GM. Uh huh, yeah sure, do I look real impressed yet? Later I met this "GM", a level 17 wiz who gave him a drawven ring tunic and he gave me the banded. Oh yes, major twinking there from the GM friend. *rolls eyes and takes Excedrin*

there is a difference between beggars and players needing items....and you can usually tell because if you come up to a person and constantly go on about their stuff than chances are they will take you for a beggar....but what happened with me was i was asking a lvl 60 monk for wisdom about monks ( after all wisdom can replace any material item but no material item can replace wisdom) this comment was not directed to you priests. anyways he says i should prolly use Wu's sticks and then i told him id prolly have to save up for a long time so im not gonna hold my breath on it. he then offered to buy them for me....Being me i eaglery accepted his offer and we went shopping <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)"> not to mention he is one of my friends now.

Ive had people say they are gms and threaten bans, etc many times now.. i always /report, then send a /tell to a guide that is on(they dont seem to mind direct tells when people are pretending to be gms), i've gotten at least 2 people banned like this.
