I will never forget the day when Master Phin called me to his side. He took me to the courtyard and we sat down for a few minutes, silent, then he began.

Ryuen, we here at the Silent Fists have allways seen you as a son as well as a pupil. Many times have you asked us, your Masters and even fathers, where your mother was. Many times have we told you to be patient, that we would tell you when the time was right.

Well, now is that time.

Master Phin sighed before he continued

Ryu, my lad, it was Master Konem who found you in the Hills after Cross had told him of a young boy, barely a year old, his clothes teared and bloody, laying unconsious under a tree. They both ran to the spot Cross had said and indeed, there you were, hurt and on the brink of death.

Master Konem took you in his arms and ran to the Temple of Life, where the Clerics spend hours trying to save you. Once you were healed we knew not what to do, we asked around but as there were signs of battle near where you were found we feared the worst. It seems Ryu, that your real parents were slaughtered, by whom we know not, as not a single clue was left when you were found.

The Rangers of the Glade, great are their tracking skills, found no traces, no tracks.

I'm sorry young Ryu, all we could do was teach you in the ways of the monk and do whatever lie in our possibilies to bring you up to become a man, a man of Honor and Truth.

Although we had some headaches in the years passed, like the time when Cross showed up at the guildhouse, holding you up and telling us you were found fighting a wolf. Oh I still remember that day well, it took us lots of trouble to assure him it was probably accidental and that it would neve ever happen again. but now at this day it brings a smile upon my face, brave Ryuen, fighting a wolf in the realm of the Druids and Rangers.

Master Phin paused as I tried to hide a tear after hearing of this this terrible fact. I gathered my emotions, cleared my mind and apologised to my Master for that weak moment.

Ryuen, Ryuen, an apologogy is unneeded as I can imagine the pain you must feel. We monks are masters of our body and minds, but in the end even I, a Master of the Order, am only human and sometimes have trouble ignoring my emotions.

But, now the time has come for you to broaden your horizon, its time you travel to Freeport and study a while at the Ashen Order. It is important for a monk to learn, that includes long journeys and training in other Orders as well.

At that time Master Konem came into the yard with a backpack.

Here Ryu, I've packed your things. I hope you are ready to leave, its early morning and you'll make a good distance if you start now. Master Konem smiled.

So, without a word I got up, took the backpack and bowed to them. Then I went to see all of my teachers, my fathers and mothers that brought me up and made me what I am now.

I left quietly through the front door, only to find Konem and Phin at the gates of the city. They would escort me to the Karanas they said.

It was a quick walk, as they walked briskly and proudly untill they reached the Karanas. I bowed once more to my two Masters, not a last time, although it would be a while until I would see either of them again.

When they were ready to say their final words of goodbye, it became too much for me. I gave Konem and Phin a hug, quickly feeling a bit sorry as it was improper behaviour for a monk of the Order.

Phin and Konem a bit amazed, looked at eachother and started laughing, something not often seen from these two.

Goodbye Ryu, be sure to write when you arrive in Freeport and come back to us once in a while eh ?

I bowed a final time, still a bit uneasy about the trip and my emotional reaction, turned and started walking briskly into unknown lands. I can still hear the feint words they both spoke at the same time: "Be carefull son, make us proud"
