I was looking through the FAQs and screenshots, and as a fan of both FPS, and tactical shooters, this looks REALLY fun.
Anyone else have any opinions on the game?

Awesome Concept. The only thing im concerned about is that it plays smoothly. Im used to Global Ops and if i try to play rogue spear or tribes it just feels all jerky. However from the reviews i have read it looks pretty bad ass.

I want a tactical, team-based open-air shooter that is actually FUN. I will be giving this a try.
I picked up Battlefield 1942 the other day, had read just so many great reviews and whatnot, and the Tribes2 scene has really died.
I played most of last evening, and I don't get it. There's a bit of tactics involved, but no teamwork, really. I mean, granted, I jumped into the Berlin map first, where I chose a spawn point and popped in to see a German grenade-thingy bouncing around in front of me. Boom. I didn't live more than 10 seconds the entire time.
The only teamwork I see is multi-person vehicles, and most times people just jump in and drive into something without waiting for a gunner. No spotting for artillery, no light escorts for the slow well-armed folks, no air support for people making a run for territory, no resources that anyone else can use (inv stations + turrets + sensors in Tribes), no emphasis on defense whatsoever. This is because of players in part, but also because of game mechanics.
I want Tribes. I miss setting up my perfect defensive grid on Slapdash. I miss holding the enemy gens for the whole game. Finding a good pilot and bombing people to the stone age over and over again. Being a nigh invincible heavy and raining mortars on an enemy outpost. BF1942 is a bad joke by comparison, and I'm hoping Planetside will fill the void...Tribes3 has been announced, but I have my doubts about it making it to release. Sierra aint exactly doing so well.

Give it some time i spent up to 40 minutes on a loosing side in bf1942 last night no one on my side could establish a flag for their lifes.
But they managed to stay alive on a 1200pt tick for over 30 minutes three games.
I gotta say the team work seemed so bad when i switched to the loosing side that i quit afte 3 games though.
Your going to find tons of game where people act go play good or what not some of the servers are even monitered so the slaptards will most likely get the boot on those servers if their doing nothing more than standing around.

BF1942 has alot of teamwork options...its all in the player. Most public servers just have little shits who dont give a shit.
On private servers you do alot better. I've become a really good air to air fighter, so alot of times on some private servers they'll let me take the zero/etc. You see alot of teamwork on clan servers. Armored divisions with someone in an APC for ammo restock and some engineers upkeeping the armor, with maybe a lone fighter flying around for spotting and swift target strikes (You can take out a tiger tank with a single well placed fighter bomb).

Lets not get off topic now. Planetside looks like it's going to be killer! I'm going to try and get into the Beta (which is coming very very soon)
<div style="text-align:center">http://home.wi.rr.com/mustaine/sebby.jpg</div></p>
Didn't mean to derail thread, apologies.
I'm REALLY looking forward to planetside, I'll be going for the beta if I can...especially now that I've read that the producers of Tribes/2 are working on it...2 of my favorite games of all time. The idea of building up a FPS character...yeah. Taking an EXO-suited heavy after racking up xp for a couple months and laying waste to the newbs. Blahahah.
They're still saying a Q1 release date, but I don't buy it, really.

Lol I'm already trying to decide what role I wanna play most. I'm thinking probably either Hacker or Pilot. Maybe Assault Armor Infantry. Can't stand being bogged down by heavy armor. From what I hear it will be a lot like Tribes 2. You pick your armor and gear loadout and head into battle.
<div style="text-align:center">http://home.wi.rr.com/mustaine/sebby.jpg</div></p>
I have never been good at piloting. I could hold my own in T2, but if there wasn't water to dive under or I had a persistent pursuer, I was done. I don't think that's gonna be my role.
Hacker, maybe stealthsuit guy? Oh yes would that be fun.
I could really go for a heavy type, especially if they have grenade/mortar type weapons. I like being able to carry everything including the kitchen sink to battle, gives you more options. Being slow is okay as long as you are tough as hell and have steady aim...and can find someone to drive you around. =)
Any thoughts on teams, Sebakis? =)

If you mean the different sides of the game, I'm probably going to join the Vanu Sovereignity. At first I wanted to join the Terran Republic, but that seems to be the popular choice right now, and I found a good clan that is playing on Vanu that I will probably be joining.

Same here going with vanu basically cause i like to be sneaky, i dont know if ill get to attacted though as im looking forware to another game SB.

Just went to check out the site and I quite like it. I recently bought BF1942 and have enjoyed it mostly although the lack of coherence and teamwork is very noticable on the servers I have played on. PS will have a guild/clan system coded into the game and should prove to be a lot of fun.
Very likely to give it a shot when it comes out. Still undecided on which empire though.
I have a question: Anyone else find it difficult to go into a new game blind and alone? Having come from an okay guild in EQ and then entering the SB beta and now considering SWG and PS also I am faced with the prospect of finding a group of people to play with who share similar goals and maturity. The guild recruitment forums always have their share of idiots present and it is impossible to say with certainty what a group of players will actually perform like when a game goes Gold.
