View Full Version : Implant for a BR6 Sniper
About to hit BR6 since the wipe, and debating on what implant to get..
Advanced Targetting would be nice, since I can see who I can nail with an easy shot. My biggest problem is targets who take a round and jump all over the place till they can locate me..usually I have to go in and close range it..
Range Magnifier also would be handy..being able to zoom up to 12x with any weapon or no weapon at all is quite nice for scouting out a position as well as being able to stick just a little bit further back/up then I normally am..
What do you guys think?

Just try both for an hour each. You can swap implants whenever you want, with no 24 hour timer like the certs.

The best peice of advice I could give you is to stop being a sniper while you are still early into it...
I got to br 17 and sniper cert was the 1st thing I got. It is pretty cool, but if you are a member of a regular squad or outfit just about anything else is more useful than being a sniper.
If you are a lone player then its probly great for you, but I'm a grp player and there was no aspect of being a sniper that wasn't bested by another role.
Or in short its like playing a monk in EQ, heh.

The implant question:
Adv. Targeting: Unless they fixed it, I could never get it to show me their health through the zoomed in reticle. It did work up close with no zoom. They may have fixed this. If so it could be somewhat useful for picking targets.
Range Magnifier: At first I thought this rocked but then I realized that 12x isn't that much better then 8x (in game at least) and it was actually a hinderance because the zoom will not close simply changing weapons (which I rely on when you get jumped up close while sniping and have to switch to your up close and personal gun). However, one big bonus is that it will give you zoom for MAXes that normally have none. NOTE: it will zoom with vehicle weapons that normally only have 2x BUT the reticle will not line up correctly when you use it at the moment.
Best implant? Surge. Wow, it's a HUGE boost to run speed, lasts a good while with full stamina, and can be a big advantage in a fight. Honorable mention: Darklight. It never hurts to be SURE there are none of those pesky cloakers hiding in the corners.
In response to Ryu, I only partially agree. A person who focuses on only sniping is actually fairly worthless in the taking of bases and only slightly more productive defending one. However, if used judiciously it can be a huge help.
My personal setup was to use Exo armor and carry a Sniper rifle plus an upclose weapon of your choice (Sweeper, Cycler/Gauss/maybe Pulsar, or Hvy assault weapon). I found a little bit of sniping on approach to the base was very helpful. I would then close and get into the base ASAP so I could use my up close weapon of choice to get to the CC and hack or cover. The Exo armor with it's 2 rifle slot lets you fill both roles nicely and can be a big boon to your squad.

My outfit enjoys having me along as a sniper. I find I am most useful if there is a big fight going on. I can pick off non-MAX folks from a great distance that are distracted by the rest of my squad (or other squads) before they know what hit them. Even if they can tell where I am they usually dont get a shot off before I take them out.
As for what implant to use...I first wen with Advanced Targetting and found it to not be very useful. Before the player wipe with the last patch I was using the implant to hear enemies around you (forgot the name of the implant). That has saved my life more than a dozen times now since I can see on my radar when someone is near me.

currently i use audio, if you are a sniper and don't move much you can have this on all the time.

Audio is a good implant, you see people coming up to you on your radar while you snipe.
Its also very useful when indoors.

Maybe I'm in a unique situation but my outfit is in the top 6 in the game I believe.
When I used to snipe they would fly over a MT range and I would bail and find a good spot
Well by the time I got a good spot that the enemy wouldn't see for a while I only got a few shots off maybe 5 deaths (if I was lucky) before the they hacked the CC and were defensivly set up around there... and once that happens everyone is inside and I had no targets.
I think for tough situations the recon can be a big help but when I want to do recon I will get my reaver and I can check everywhere in the SOI in no time, and more importantly I can see and stop enemy Gal drops.
For the killings I can get my MagRider pick up a gunner or get one of the support role players in my Outfit to gunner and I can take out WAY more than 5 people before the outfit attracts everyone into the base, and I can take out pretty much any vehicle in the game, and more importantly I can find and take out AMS's.
Not to meantion the importance of MAXes AV max can take just about anything on the ground
AI MAX is great when you are defending
AA is a little weak but it tracks really well and one of the best weapons for Reavers, and Mosq and if your fighting in the same squad as a reaver pilot. You 2 can work really well together and take out gals pretty fast.
