Empires.

This game is all about war right?? an endless war and such.

I think we can all agree Opening lines of communication is the first step towards peace.

I am tring to understand why they have done this, and I can't make heads or tails of it.

In a war game it makes no sense.

Maybe someone here can explain it.

I understand what you're saying but I haven't seen it hamper the game at all. Hell, even if you wanted to be an informer the game moves so fast that you couldn't do a lot of good.

Even if you gave good info it'd only come a minute or two ahead of a continent-wide message anyway.

I use the cross-Empire chats just to joke and poke fun at my targets or peeps that have killed me.

For example, one time I was stealthed in the courtyard of an enemy base. I don't normally hang out there but something interesting was going on...

A TR Medium Assault female was running around the courtyard jumping and strafing and reversing direction and shooting at corners and shadows.

I watched her do this until she ran out of stamina and was creeping along. I sent her a tell saying, "All that bouncing and dancing around only makes you dizzy."

She started turning around real quick, looking for me. She scanned the towers and walls and corners and doors. I sent her another tell saying, "It doesn't help you stay alive. It only prolongs the inevitable."

Again she freaked out but she wa still out of stamina so I rounded the vehicle pad and AMP'd her in the back.

2 minutes later she was back and doing the same thing, and I taunted her like that and whacked her again.

A few minutes later the folks in that base were ready to leave and called up a Sunderer at the vehicle pad. Apparently they were in a big hurry because the Sunderer almost left without a few people. One of them was my dancer.

The minute I saw her leave the main door and head toward the Sunderer I sent one last tell. "I'm right here with you. Dance for me again." In reality I was so far away from her that I couldn't have hit her with a grenade.

She froze in place for a 2-count, then ran as fast as she could back inside the base. The Sunderer left without her and she hadn't come back outside after I'd waited a few minutes. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/wink.gif ALT=";)">

Without cross-Empire chats that particular PsyOp wouldn't have been possible.

I personally could care less, it's not really a role playing game per-say... but I guess alot of the people comming from rpg games want it to be. It is a galactic war blah blah blah, but it doesnt change the fact that it's a game.

Although I really hate being told by kids that "So fugin lucky, i'll pwn you in quake anyday beotch". On the other hand when I finally get my eyes on one of you guys i'll be sure to /tell you before I turn you into a stone!

I've heard rumors that cross-empire tells will not be available in the retail version. That they exist only in Beta to help the testing process.

If you get annoying tells, that's what /ignore is for.

Communication between both partners and competition is a vital part to the longevity of any multi-mass game. It's another aspect that draws you into the game and gives it long term appeal.
