View Full Version : Just wanted to say this about Planetside...
OMFG! Wow....awesome game. Frame rate needs some tweaking but that's my machine not the game. What a FUN game to play! Lotsa action and lotsa deaths! Watch out for grief points. blech!
Graphics are top of the line. Communication is easy (although there are a lot of folks that want to tell you what to do). Easy to follow, not so easy to lead others but that will come with time. Aiming is easier than most fps imo and no headaches or queezy stomach from twitching around too fast! Much easier to kill up close and personal but I suppose that's to be expected with the "cone of fire" they use. In some ways its a mix of BF1942 and EQ but on a larger, grander scale.
Played Vanu initially. I eventually want to try them all for a week or so before settling down to one faction but that might have to wait until it goes retail.
Anyway, if your disks didn't arrive today I bet they will tomorrow. Have fun!

I was thinking a mix of Halo (you can fly/drive vehicles), Counter-strike (its squad bases, sorta you can solo too), EQ ( exp to get the next weapon/vehicle/skill upgrade), Dark age of Camelot ( it has 3 factions and have to take over many bases, also has neg bonus for uneven factions). Been beta tester for two weeks have not gotten to play as much as I would like.

I'm also waiting on my disks. Those of us who are in the open beta are not allowed the opportunity to download, we have to wait for the disks.
Len, do you have access to the beta page. The pages says I am in beta, as did the e-mail I got. But I can't access the page still.

I got an email today to invite a friend and it had a cd key for them to use. Not sure if all beta testers got this or not but it reads like you would be able to DL the game from the site. I gave the key to my roomate. I am not sure if it will work for more than one friend. Yet.

It rocks. Kinda hard to learn everything fast as far as the UI goes, but the game is simply a blast. Easy to play for hours or just a few minutes. Lotsa new people on tonight and the server crashed once but only for a few minutes. I think it got overloaded so they started up another server. Awesome!

thursday i got tired of no disks so i reapplied to the beta under one of my other station names(i have a few eq accounts).
saturday morning - Welcome to the planetside Exclusive Beta- here is your CD-Key-get the installer from ...here(i had it installed already).

i have come to the conclusion that i SUCK at fpsmmog play. a 2yr old with a wet noodle could beat me...
still level 2. with all of 1 kill to my name...
i must have died about once every 20 minutes.
time to become a stealthy person/medic-engineer and see where that gets me

They are accepting everyone into beta now as it is an "open" beta. I doubt they will mail any more disks out due to cost but everyone is getting a cd-key and link to dl the entire game.
Len, for kicks and grins try starting a new character and instead of trying to get 2 certs with your 4 points just get the one cert for "MAX xxxxxcannon xxxxx". (Sorry I forget the exact name but it's the only MAX with "cannon" in the name.) It's kind of like being a mech but you have excellent armor and can basically roll through just about anyone that ISN'T in a MAX themselves. It's a blast for guarding your position during an assault. Every time one of those puny hackers gets close just unload on em. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/wink.gif ALT=";)">

i've gone ai max and got slaughtered
medium combat with reinforced armor set - got slaughtered
no going hacker with infiltration - just need a bit more exp to get the other point to do infiltration suit, then going hacking/stabbing...

I'm kicking some ass in a Terran AI MAX. Almost BR6, implants here I come!
Mega points = in same group as hacker who hacks a base
Big points = assisting in a base capture. You don't have to be in the same group
Semi-big points = Hanging around while an ANT refuels a base, thoroughly.
Medium points = vehicles, aircrafts. They give good stuff
Small points = standard infantry. Don't even bother camping spawning tubes because you get jack crap for exp that way

Ryu, the combat of SWG is similar to EQ. It is time based not turn based. The queue just makes your moves more time efficient.
Lets take EQ examples: You hit flying kick, after 6 seconds the button pops again. It takes you 1 second for your brain to realize the button has popped and you press it. So you actually do a kick every 7 seconds. In SWG, you can queue up 30 flying kicks and each one will activate precisely 6 seconds after the other. Not to mention that there are going to be tons of different special moves that will be useful in conjunction with each other.

I'm on the Beryl server as Nomadic1... BR3 (will be 4 tonight), certs in Galaxy and Engineering (next cert is either a Stealth Suit or a start towards better armor).
I am having a blast so far. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)"> Let the Squad load up on my big ole bertha, fly to a base and shout "DROP!!!", land a ways away, repair and lock her (and hope no one thinks to come smash or hack her), then sneak in on foot to work as an Engineer repairing my Squad's armor.
I've already learned to avoid being outside much at the bases... MAXs and Reavers really hurt when your armor is an Agile Exo Suit. lol

Ive gone the sniper/hacker route.
Im currentl BR8 and having a blast. There is nothing like cloaking and sneaking in to a fully packed base.
I really like get a spot outside with a good view of the base and pick people off. Once i no longer see enemies outside on my radar i go up, hack the door and go in.
Alot of fun to cloak and hide in the spawn room. People spawn and never see ya.
i find it alot more fun to leave the base enemy controlled and pick em off as they arrive to restock.
I like the game alot.. the UI needs some work. But im having a blast.
Im playing as Ramsus on the B server.
