View Full Version : My customized Monk UI

I created this UI to suit the needs of ONLY my monk. Here is a list of what it contains:
- Cold steel backgrounds for buttons/window frames.
- Old style Inventory for easier management.
- Colorized (easier to read) compass.
- Mend timer. Counts down from 6 mins repeatedly. Uses the pet info window (Alt-F1). Just remember what it says when you hit Mend. =)
- Added slots at bottom of the Hotbutton window for pants, right bracer, first inventory slot, last inventory slot, left ring, and range slot for easy swapping.
- Added Primary and Secondary melee weapons to the top of ALL containers. Just open your weapons bag for easy swapping.
- Removed unused icons from the window selector
- Buff window has icons and buff names.
- Group Window also includes your health, xp, aaxp, and resists in the order magic, fire, cold, poison, disease. Also shows group member's % of health.
- Player Info window is much smaller for easier placement near target window to compare life. Also contains weight, AC, and ATK.
- Target window shows % of health.
- This pic does not show the new bard songs window yet, but I have updated all the necessary files so the UI will work with today's patch (1/9/03). I may edit that window in a future version if needed.

Most on here I REALLY like. Not too far off from the ideal in my head that is my monk hodgepodge I have no clue where i got it and Drakkah's mod. Only one thing for sure I would like to see... melee stat buffs displayed somewhere. They don't need to be large but it help at a glance to see what kind of buffs you need. even CHR helps for merchants and WIS/INT for tradeskillers. If that could be fit in with the song window adjustment.. this would become my UI for sure!

Ok have a question that maybe you can answer on your UI. On the image it looks like all your box's/chat/buff's is off your screen.i.e. leaving only the actual game on the main screen. Now am I correct in saying this, or is it all an illusion. You remember how in the old/velious version you could sit in F-10 mode non full screen with all your accessable stuff on screen, but non of the actuall play screen was taking up by this other crap. Thats what I am looking for...I need to get rid of the clutter on my screen, but yet I still need all the box's....am I doomed forever with stupid Verants logic in upgrading crap products again? Any help here would be appreciated...thanks!

You are correct. I used the /viewport option in-game to size my screen to fit within the confines of the outter boxes. That way I can still see everything as before, just in a smaller window. I hated trying to click through the transparent boxes and getting the window menu's all the time =P.

It's pretty simple. The /viewport command defines how much of your screen to display from the upper left to the bottom right by using 4 numbers. If you're running in 1024x768 resolution then your default /viewport is set to the size of the entire screen or 0 0 1024 768. The 0 0 indicates the upper left corner and the 1024 tells how many pixels to view to the right from that point. The 768 tells it how much to view below that. The screen you see for mine is set for something like /viewport 90 0 800 550 (guessing, I don't recall my exact settings). Just mess around with it til you get it where you like it. If you don't like the settings just type /viewport default and it will go back to full screen.

Hmm, I get no errors at all. I suggest you make sure you start with a BLANK directory before you unzip my UI there. If that does not work, and you still get the error message then please check the file called UIErrors.txt located in your everquest directory. The text file will tell you exactly which xml file is the problem.. and if it's one of mine then please post the the text here so I can fix it <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)"> .
*UPDATE*
Just created a new songs window for this UI along the same format as the buffs window. The new songs window is now included in the original zip file or if you've already got this UI and just want to D/L the songs window alone then you can get it here (http://www.geocities.com/bob_m_fw/songs.zip).

Gues I would like to run it in 1024X768 instead of 1152X864 but when I do that it shrinks my window and doesnt use my whole monitor.
Problem I have at 1152 is type is just too damn small.

Changed the buff and song windows to match in size and appearance today. If you want to change the slots in the hotbuttons area you just need to replace the EQTYPE to the inventory slot you would prefer.

Yeah, I'm getting the XML file thing too, and since the last patch was crashing to desktop everytime I zoned...switched back to the basic UI and no longer crashing but really miss this UI.

I updated this UI to work with the current patch changes. I even added a few XML files that are only on TEST SERVER right now in anticipaction of the next patch. This version <span style="color:red;">WILL NOT</span> cause crashing while zoning, reloading skins, or changing resolution anymore. Once again you can view the *CURRENT* Monk UI at this location:

I was UI lazy and never tried any of these until this last week. Played with a few and found this one to be just about everything I could want. I really need to learn a little about this stuff so I can make minor changes on my own (like the hot boxes). This may be an odd question to ask given the target audience, but do you have any plans to adopt this UI for casting classes? I love the simplicity of the buff windows and the info contained in group / player windows, and it's quickly become the only UI I'd consider for my monk.
However, I also play a wizard, and though I've attempted to tinker around a bit to change the health bar in the player window to display mana, I'm both inept and uncomfortable with the idea of mucking around with someone else's work.
Anyway, the point of this is that this interface is too neat to be limited to pure melee only. Please, for the alts among us, consider a caster-enabled version.

Okay I have a question I love the new UI but I can't reset The mend timer. To start at 6 minutes when I do use mend. 1 how do I reset the mend timer when I use mend or why do I keep getting errors when I just try to replace the mend menu timer with another one from the horizzonUItimer web site?

The mend timer doesn't reset. You just have to remember what time it says when you hit mend. Next time that time pops up then so will your mend. You could set up a hotkey to reload the UI (which resets the timer) when you mend, but that usually takes a few seconds and could end up getting you killed.

It hjust keeps running- you either watch where it was when you used MEND or you reload the skin to reset it.

What window is the timer based on? On most of the timers I've seen you can close and open the window to restart a timer... i.e. player window, compass, feedback, etc... Might try it...

Yep, it uses the pet window. However opening and closing a window will nto reset the animation (which is what the timer is) so you either have to remember the time on it or reload your UI to reset it.

* IMPORTANT *
The reason some features from LoY won't work on many of your systems is because I fubar'd in a previous upload of my monkui.zip and included the EQUI.XML in the file. This file should NEVER be in a custom directory and EQ should always use the default one. If you are having this problem then just delete the EQUI.XML from your custom monk directory and everything should work fine. =)

i think its a great ui, but i just have one question.
Is it customizable at all? can i make something invisible or move things around? i usually only need two text windows open, and i like to have my group health, my health and target stacked on top of each other for easy comparison.
love the mend timer, the bag thingy, and the old inventory is awesome. i like the giant destroy button too.
Could anyone explain how i could keep what i like, and change what i dont like? that would be awesome, thanks in advance.

You can delete or add chat windows as you need.
You can move the target healt bar right on top of the extra self health bar. All of the windows are moveable.

Yep, everything is movable, but most windows (except chat) are not resizable. Thier sizes are the minimum for the information they need to display. =)

The Mend Timer is in the Pet Window. To bring it up you simply hit Alt-F1. =)

Ok i did upload the pet window and it changed but still no timer its just a little box with lines running through it....any idea on what i need to do...any hlep would be greatly appreciated....

I have found best thing to do if you have a problem. If you have customized any of the pieces then you need to save those but if not delete everything in the custom UI directory you made(ie MONKUI or whatvere you called it) and download the monkui.zip and place all the files in there. That should corect your problem. My quess is one of your .tga files (probbaly #4) is not correct but I am not an expert at XML so... thats just a guess but start from scratch is best idea.

Found a couple of problems in the UI. Main bug was in the animations XML. You were missing the reference to dragitems_26.tga. I fixed it my copy. May want to have a look and repost. Also, I found it effective to make the pet/timer window both transparent and borderless.

Has this UI been updated with the latest changes? I have been using this UI since you posted the message and love the way it looks.
One more question...how hard is it to change the equipment slots under the buttons?

You can change the extra slots in the hotbuttons by using a text editor such as notepad or wordpad to open the EQUI_HotButtonWnd.xml file. Next use the Search/Find feature of the editor to find * * * * Slot18a .. this will bring you to the first of the 4 slots that I have customized. Scroll down a few lines and you'll see a couple lines that read:
* * * * * * * * <Background>A_InvLegs</Background>
* * * * * * * * <EQType>18</EQType>
These are the lines that tell the first slot to be your legs. If you want to change that to another slot just change the A_InvLegs line. If you're going to change the slot to your face slot for instance you change the line to read A_InvFace. Then you need to change the number on the next line from 18 to the one corresponding to the equipment slot you would prefer to have there. Here's a list for easy reference:

I'm an idiot..I cant seem to make the windows line up correctly across the three chat windows..the compass isnt sized with the rest of the bars going across, and I still have about a quarter inch gap from left to right..
Anyone got a ui_name_server.ini file for this UI?

Chat work fine for me, dunno what you mean. Do you mean you don't have any chat windows at all? If so then something is very odd.
To turn on the Mend Timer you just need to use Alt+F1 to activate the "pet" window. Since monks don't get pets it's not usually up, but once you turn it on it saves as ON and will always be there.
You can use this in higher resolution just fine <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/glasses.gif ALT="8)"> . However if you were to use any lower of resolution it would be way too crowded.

In my own directory I found a copy of EQUI_OptionsWindow.xml which should not be there and was modified in this recent patch. If you have that file in your custom directory please remove it as it will cause you to be kicked to desktop while zoning or even randomly. Other than that everything should work as normal still =).
