View Full Version : Hotkey Text Colors
I don't know about everyone else, but the yellow that is used for the 'unavailable' or 'greyed' state of a hotkey is distracting to me. Or maybe I just don't like yellow, or something.
What I am trying to figure out, is how to change the 'greyed' button text color to something less bright. Anyone looked into this yet?

try looking in the options menu under chat.
scroll down a bit, there's a ton of colors you can change for things, i'd bet its in there.

you can open up the windows_pieces03.tga and change the color of greyed out buttons, dont think there is another way.

Thanks!
What sort of editor would I use to open that file? I know that .TGA files used to be called Targa files and were an old graphics standard... is it that format?
I'm kind of saddened that with all this other control they have given us we can't adjust the color of that text. Although, I have not yet crawled through the XML file for the hotbutton box.

Yeah use Photoshop, PSP, or other graphic editor that supports the TGA format.

Ok, I poked around and found the section of the .tga file that corresponds. But a friend of mine (knowing of my hatred for the yellow text) went to Boston FanFaire and asked a developer. The anser is... it is hardcoded and I'll just have to live with it for the time being.

Somewhere in the .xml files is a line with "flyby" in it; edit this and I think you should be able to remove the feature that senses you moving the mouse over the button, thereby disabling the yellowed text.

I saw that stuff. The one that would apply is A_ButtonDepressed or some such (I don't have it in front of me) but that is basically just the graphic image of the depressed button, the yellow text is then put on top of it. The flyby is just what happens when you move the mouse over the button, so would have no bearing on the text. Unless I'm misunderstanding what you are saying.

I posted here (and on few other sites) about this issue - although my concern wasn't that the yellow inactive buttons were distracting. My concern was that if you leave the mouse pointer over the hotkey (particularly FD) you won't know when it refreshes because the highlight is also yellow. (The button actually does "pop" up some, but that's hard to see.) Someone suggested you could change the mouse pointer "fly-by" so that the pointer wouldn't highlight but no one could really ever tell me how to do this. A guildmate of mine developed a solution (at least for me) where the pointer has a red label "ACTIVE" when the hotkey is active. That way I can leave the pointer on my FD key and still see right away when it has refreshed. (I use my mouse to click hotkeys as opposed to the keyboard numbers.)
I'd still like to know though if there is a way to disable the pointer highlighting over Hot Buttom keys.

Kzaku,
Can you give us some insight on how to make that 'Active' text appear. Or post the appropriate XML file and/or line.
Thanks,
