Funcom Recently Announced that they have 400 thousand - currently- active accounts. which is decent for release. Higher than Vanguard got, lower than what WoW got, if i Remember Correctly that number is right around where EQ2 got at IT's Release.

Now that Release has happened, it is time to find out what the Retention Factor is for AOC- ie how many actually Subscribe post free month...I'm thinking it'll be at around 250-300k (~66 to 75% retention factor)

I have heard far more good things than bad about the game, is it that bad to lose 55-60% of its initial base?

70-75% sounds about right to me, if they are intelligent about handling leveling exploits, patches and classes.

The biggest problem they have right now is there is absolutely no communication with the playerbase.

They have no forum representation, outside of patch note posts. The patch note posts, even considering they are gonna miss stuff, are very inadequate to describe the actual changes made to the game. The unfortunate thing is that with each patch, there have been undocumented nerfs to one class or another.

So perhaps its a bug? Who knows, because there is no communication to the playerbase - its a vicious circle where players are perpetually left in the dark about what changes we can / should expect, and what changes may be bugs, what changes will get fixed, etc.

50% or so is what I am guessing, unless something changes to impact this non-communication, and how horrible the patch notes are reflecting actual game-changes.

For me? I am sticking it out, the gameplay is fun, and my wife plays - so there are 2 reasons to keep playing!
