First off we have Pirates of the Burning Seas- Published by SOE-
Set sail for a swashbuckling, massively multiplayer online adventure in the pirate-infested seas and Caribbean ports of 1720. England, France, and Spain have unleashed their forces on the Caribbean. POTBS is open for business, launched to mixed reviews.

Im playing PotBS atm and having a blast. It like halfway between eve and a normal mmo. Skill is definitely more important than levels which is very cool. The dev staff has well defined goals but still takes player input.

I read a large review on PotBS. And needless to say, my views (http://www.delusioned.net/2008/01/30/pirates-of-the-burning-seanext-big-mmo-i-dont-think-so/), based on the review, isn't spectacular.

In summary, it definitely has a lot of neat features, but it requires too much thinking for it to be a casual game. If casuals can't play, isn't not going to be the next big thing.

WoW is top because it's "too easy." It remained top because it also offers more advanced game-play in later levels.

The guy admits that he hasn't played the game in his review. Anyway, its very easy to play casually. Probably take about a month to 6 weeks to go from nothing to max level with no help. Small ships are viable and two level 25 players will have no trouble at all taking out 1 level 50 player.

In potbs player skill matters more than everything else and unlike eve you do not have to learn "skills" for a few months before you can consider pvp. Id say from about level 16 on (which takes about 3 days casual) you are a viable for pvp.


I would say it is a very easy game to pick up and learn, but a difficult game to master.



All in all, having played since the closed beta, I completely disagree with that review.
