Loading a UI

Can someone post *detailed* instructions on how to install a new UI. I've read previous post but none are specific enough. After I unzip the files to a copy of the UI folder, then start up EQ and type /loadskin (name) 1 it just ends up reseting the original UI. Am I supposed to make a copy of uifiles and unzip into there or make a copy of the default folder inside of uifiles and unzip into there? Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong or just tell me how to do it the right way?



Oh and by the way, I've tried doing this multiple times with several different new UI's.

Lets say you have EQ installed in a directory called C<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/ohwell.gif ALT=":"> Everquest



1. Create a new directory for your UI. For example, my new UI will go in C<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/ohwell.gif ALT=":"> Everquestuifilesmynewui



2. Unzip the files from your new ui into the directory just created. There is no need to copy the old UI files into the new directory.



3. Once in EQ, type /loadskin mynewui 1



4. If it fails to load, you need to check out the file UIErrors.txt to see what is wrong. Only pay attention to the last line as that is the one that caused your UI to fail.

exact same thing happens for me. Do all that and it reloads the default.

It'll load the default if it thinks the new one is broken badly enough, but it will still put the error in the uierrors.txt file. May not be the last line anymore, but shouldn't be too far up from the bottom.

The last errors in the file were dated August 18 when I first tried to load a new skin because I'd unzipped it into the completely wrong place. No new errors. Any other suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong?

I had probs with my ui, was gettin booted to desktop. It seems some of my custom files were not liked. Try to start with just 1 custom file and see if it works. Then put a new one on and test it each time. I got all mine to work except for my big target bar which wont work. And the maps I had won't work either(. Hope that helps ya.

if you load a custom UI will it 'auto load' each time from then on? If is does 'auto load' from then on, will it use that skin for all of your toons? My daughter plays also and what I set up might not be what she likes and visa versa.

Could me having a different screen resolution than what the person who created the mod for be messing me up?

I also have never been able to get any UI skins to work. I follow the instructions and have the same problem when I try to load the new skins. Also all my hotkey buttons change to numbers and I have to redo them all again. I'm beginning to think it might be some strange imcompatibility problem with my PC.

If anyone else has had the same problem and come up with a fix for it, I would be interested to know.

i am also having probs, same as other people say i try to load a skin that previously worked fine (i logged on a few days later and it dident work). /shrug

Same problems here -

Tried to load a new ui last night, and couldnt get any of them to work... and it reset my existing UI back to default, and wiped out my hotkeys.
