Yeah, so back in college I was living with this girl that had a killer Seasme Chicken recipe. Literally kicked the pants off the stuff I could get delivered from any Chinese restaurant. She had a decent sweet and sour sauce too that, if I remember correctly, involved Campell's Tomato soup. But I digress.

Consider this thread the place to post your best Chinese entree knock-offs. I've surfed around the net and found some stuff, but alot of the recipes look either questionable or are more trouble than just ordering out...lol.

To kick it off, I'm looking for a solid General Tso's (of course) recipe and

A solid Orange Beef recipe.

Bonus points for a good Hot and Sour soup recipe. (And yes, I've used the Knorr's dry mix).

To reiterate, I know where to find generic recipes online. I'm looking for stuff that really tastes like the delivery from a good place.

I don't know how to classify this, but it like ghetto General Tso's.

Heat some oil (whatever you want besides olive..we use veg or wome variation of) in a frying pan. And preheat your oven to 300.

Get a bowl and place flour and add a little salt and pepper to taste.

Get another bowl and beat an egg (or 2 depending on how much chicken your making) add a little water and mix it some more.

Take boneless/skinless chicken breasts and cut off the little pieces of fat and then cube the chicken.

Dip the chicken in the egg and get all of the excess off, then put the chicken in the flour.

Then put your chicken in the oil and brown all sides. You just need to brown it good...not really cook it all the way through.

While the chicken is cooking put 1/2 - 3/4 cup of soy sauce in a sauce pan and 2-3 tablespoons of honey, a little bit of ginger if you like it.. and if your like me some regular or toasted seasame seeds. Cook this on low heat until it starts to thicken.

Once the chicken is done drain it on some paper towels and then put it on a non stick baking sheet and coat them really good with the sauce you made. Pop them in the oven and cook em for about 20 mins.

I personally like coconut rice so we use a can of coconut milk in place of some of the water in a standard rice recipe.

Serve it over rice and drizzle some more sauce on everything.

Doesnt really taste like carry out to me but its damn good.

If you add some orange zest to the sauce, then you will be pretty close to the original Gen. Tso's ingredients.
