View Full Version : FFXI-online?

10-20-2003, 11:12 AM
Any FFX players out there counting down to the 28th (or 29th depending on when it REALLY shows up in stores) for FFXI-online to hit stores? It is a huge hit in Japan if I remember right... (Its been out there for quite awhile) Anyway, for @12.95/mo + $1 extra for each extra char on the account you wish to have and $1 extra for some online trading card game. Seems a little steep for the extras (which should be free IMO) but the game itself should be interesting...

Anyone play it before or go through the beta? (Note: It is available for PS2 and Windows) I'm wondering if the $50 + monthly fee will be worth buying for myself and my girlfriend since we are both looking for a little something different to play when EQ is boring us.

I know a guy who was in the beta and he loves it. I saw some screenshots and they're pretty, but I have no idea about the gameplay.

I think it's going to have one problem that every other game has had.. some folks from EQ will go play it, but not everyone, and some folks will drop it to go back to where their friends are. Whether it's got enough good stuff to overcome that... we shall see <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/smile.gif ALT=":)">

Played beta, game was pretty friggin boring if you ask me. Plus it is going to be cross compatible with PS2 version meaning all the controls were designed for using a contol pad = suck ass control on a keyboard. Main thing that really pisses me off is you cant run. In order to run from a mob you have to select 'disengage' from a menu (without using the mouse mind you) then run, your odds of actually getting away are probably somewhere in the neighborhood of 'no chance in hell' since you can get killed while zoning and mobs run as fast as you and do not lose aggro.

You are aware there are keyboard shortcuts for disengaging right?

I was going to try this game, but now I'm not so sure. I've tried to find info, but between work and other RL stuff, I haven't had much time to find anything much except for what is already posted on the official site. Can anyone give more info? Gut reactions? Will it just get old fast like the other MMORPGs out there now?

www.ffxionline.com is the best site i've found on it so far. The only problem is that site is somewhat flakey for speed at times. It seems their server is less than reliable.

this site was posted in another thread

www.shadow-dragons.com/index2.htm (http://www.shadow-dragons.com/index2.htm)

I looked through it and it seems to have alot more info. No one has any info on the ninjistsu magic anywhere though, unless you can read Japanese quite well ;/

My cousin lives (and teaches english) over in japan, she's said it was pretty good, (at least console version) and is big for mmorpgs, i'll definately be giving it a shot on release...

So are we going to gather server passes and make some monkly squad on some server?

If you didn't know, everyone starts on random servers. You have to buy(in-game) World Passes(1 WP = 5 passwords) and give the password to your friend(s) so they can access the same server as you, although having to create a new character. I guess it depends on the server population on how much it costs. Someone said 1,000 gil, another person said relatively cheap.

Im pretty sure the cost will be 50gil for your first ticket.

1000gil is for the overcrowded old servers, the new ones will be around 50 gil.

Due to time differences it wont be nearly as bad as a lot of people forecast. Think about the state of japanese or korean guild primetimes vs US guild primetimes for EQ.

These games are suposed to be played over a long time, reviewing them after a short period does not realy work. Everytime a new MMPOG comes out loads of people are saying it is great. A month or so later the same people are saying how crap the game is. I think it is better to wait and see how this game is reviewed long term before investing in it.
