View Full Version : New Ui makes me go LD... A lot.

08-25-2002, 12:34 AM
Well, been going LD for a while now and was wondering why.

Checked everything about computer. EVen re-installed everything to make sure it wasnt just junk accumulating.

It seems if I play with the new ui after about 20-30 mins. I accumulate 100% packet loss and I go LD. But thing is, connection is working fine and always drop me to server selection. Today I went back to old UI and I played 6 hours withouth a single LD. worst I got was 60% PL ONCE other than that. 2,3 % unfrequent lost.

Any ideas? Starting to be out of options.

Same thing happens to me, actually. I figured it was the router I installed, but after the new UI was implemented. The command to uninstall the UI is /newui off, right? Thanks ahead of time...

ive found that occasionally when i move forward and hit autoattack at the same time i crash to desktop. Real annoying. This has only happened since the NewUI has been in.

Was having the same problem the last few days mainly..

Switched to old UI last night, and not a single crash all night long..

I was to the point of crashing every time I zoned and to desktop randomly.

This was using the default UI too.

My default new UI likes to crash to the desktop. To top it off, it picks the worst of all possible times.

I just restarted last night and like clockwork every 20 minutes or so I would get 100 percent PL and get dropped. SOmeone in chat told me it was my router. Fixed by adjusting the IP forwarding settings on my Linksys router (UDP and TCP enabled with ports 1023~7000 or something like that). I didn't have a problem the rest fo the night. If you need specifics on what I changed on my router then email me. bikemrown@nc.rr.com

Im not a techie, I do get the general, idea of what your saying to do. But other than that I dont know where to start to solve the problem.

Althought it is the EXACT same problem for me. after about 20 30 mins, get 100% PL and crash to server selection.

Ive been running custom mods pretty much from day 1 with no problems but last night I downloaded one of the newer mods posted here and it started dropping me as well. Tell me, you guys who are having this problem, do your UIs have custom graphic skins (backgrounds and such)? Because the one I downloaded last night is the only one I have with custom graphics (not just modified windows) and think maybe this has something to do with it? Then again, Im no tech expert so its all just a theory.

I've heard about people with a Linksys router/firewall having problems like this and needing to upgrade to the latest firmware(1.4?).

Sorry it took so long to reply. I don't really check this email account.

Well all of these instructions are contingent upon you having a Linksys router.

1) Log into the router as the administrator through a web browser interface (more than likely simply type 192.168.1.1 as the address and it will prompt you for the password).

2) Click on the "Advnaced" settings on the right side of the menu.

3) Click on the "Forwarding" menu. This should bring up a page titled "Port Range Forwarding".

4) What you put in next depends on some settings you have et up for your router. My IP's start at 101 and go through 103 (any three of these PC's could be accessing EQ).

5) Under "Customized Applications" I put Everquest (but this isnt important)

6) Under "Ext.Port" I put: 1023 to 7000

7) Under "Protocol TCP" I checked the box.

<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/glasses.gif ALT="8)"> Under "Protocol UDP" I checked the box

9) Under "IP Address" I put in 101 (102, and 103 for the 2nd and 3rd rows)

10) Under "Enable" I checked the box.

If this does not resolve your problems or if it doesn't even apply to your router then I don't know of anything more to do. I got help in the help chat room in EQ. SOmeone had the same problem I did and told me this info. I hope it helps.

Lastnight it got so bad that I was crashing every single time I zoned and I was on CR so you can Imagine how happy I was about this I like the NewUI but maybe it is time to go back to what I know works. I was not having this trble before the Newest Patches though. I am using a netgear router that has been just fine until the last couple patches.

Comm you just opened up your entire PC to the world on all those ports (port sniffers will love ya). If anyone is paranoid of hackers the above solution is not an option you'll want to choose.

The fix for most with a linksys router is to install an older rev of firmware. EQ changes the rules it seems quite a bit when they patch. They don't care how it effects anyone who uses a router, or so it seems.

I think i'm having the same exact problem ever since i put a Linksys router in my setup. After 20 mins give or take, i just get kicked to the server select screen. The left half of my internet connection window just starts dropping from 100% to 0% then i am booted. Is this what is meant by packet loss?

Also, I don't want to open up my comp to port sniffers so is there an easy way to load new FIRMWARE? I'm not too familiar with that tirm.

THanks a lot,

goto the linksys site and download the firmware

and though he opened his site to attacks, nowhere in it does he post in internet ip

ALL linksys routers are set for ip 192.168.1.1 unless you change it to something else.
