Anthony Bourdain hosts the cooking/travel shows "A Cooks Tour" and "No Reservations" I really like the Cooks Tour shows but do not get the other ones where I live.
Anyway, last night there was a special one hour show on the Learning Channel. He and his crew were filming their typical food tour show, in Beirut this time, when all hell broke loose. They were stuck there many days and finally made it out, documenting the whole thing.
Its a really interesting show if you get a chance to see it.

Anthony Bourdain is the real deal. I'm a big fan of 'Kitchen Confidential' and I think everyone should read that book. As far as the Lebanon sequence, I have not seen it but Tony reminds me of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson. Raw and in your face!

I finally got to see this episode last night (9/17) and it lived up to what I expected. Tony kick's hiney and I could really understand his desire to hop into the Royal's kitchen and shoot the shit with the cooks while preparing a meal for his crew. Mr. Wolf....hehe...that's rich ;)
On a more serious note, I found it informative that after Tony left the first restaurant with his guide, we got to see the massive celebration after the Israeli soldiers were killed and 2 of them taken hostage. The show of disappointment by his guide and the overall feeling of shame at what happened really was a surprise to me. But I do feel that Beirut must be so divided on so many levels I wish the best to the resident''s there. That place must suck :(

Got to see Anthony in China this past weekend. I'm starting to think his shows are about the best thing out there in the cooking field since he is so cutting edge. The man will go anywhere and eat anything! I love his books and the show is a nice compliment to them. I mean, this is the guy who went to Vietnam and sampled their cusine and homemade hooch while making a stop off at a shooting range where he tried out real ak-47's and such. You just don't get that in your FoodNetwork lineup
