Ever since the last patch, I've been having weird connection problems. I start EQ, and it hits the patch server. Downloads any new files, and starts normally. Get the couple of splash screens, including the license screen.
Then I get to the login screen. I put in my account name and password (well, the account name is already there), and click connect. I get the message "Establishing connection to Login Server"... And then nothing. Eventually, I get the "Cannot connect to login server, please try again" message. If I either click connect or hit the enter button, EQ freezes up.
I try connecting on my wife's machine. No problem, I can get right in on either of the accounts that I've got access to. So I tried copying over all the files from my wife's machine (fixed the problems I had last time, might work this time...). No go. I can log in on my wife's machine, but I can't log in on my machine, even with the files from her computer.
I've been working on this with tech support, and they are insanely unhelpful. It's been suggested (forcefully) that it's my Netgear RP114 router. Despite the fact that it's been working successfully for the last 9 months, without any hitch at all, including 2-boxing, and despite the fact that if I connect my machine directly to the cable modem, I get the same problem.
It's been suggested that it's something running in the background. Nothing is running in the background except standard services & rundll32.exe (I'm running WinXP pro, so I can check these things).
It's been suggested that it's the patcher. Tried downloading the patcher from Sony's site, and that ended with the same effect.
Anyone have any other brilliant ideas? I'm pretty much stumped. It's looking like a problem with me connecting to any of the login servers for some reason, but I can't see why I'd have connection to everything BUT those servers. DNS is running fine, I've tested that, too.
